View Full Version : chaining Jack to the corpse
Pulpy Austinite 10-26-2006, 12:39 AM i just have to say that the scene where Jack was handcuffed next to the corpse was pretty heavy. i know they are into psychological games and such but that's just harsh. esp. knowing how Jack hates failing...:frown:
GettinLost 10-26-2006, 12:43 AM Yeah, that was a pretty strange comment and scene. I almost thought she would "come to life" again!
Perhaps it was to remind him of failing or to give him the push he needs to do his best on whoever has the tumor on his spine?
Amber the Hun 10-26-2006, 12:46 AM Ugh it was creepy how Ben was all, "Leave him in there with her" At first, I thought he meant Juliet, and then I realized it was just Jack and the corpse!
Ben really tested my limits tonight with his creepiness, I must say.
Pulpy Austinite 10-26-2006, 12:47 AM i'm surprised they didnt take that scene for all its emotional potential. thought i guess Jack is logically a little disoriented by now.
ZoeWashburne 10-26-2006, 12:49 AM That was a rough scene :frown: The Others do have a big huge folder on Jack and I'm sure somewhere in there it says "Does not handle failure well." Poor Jack *hugs*

God, Jack is going to need serious therapy after this Others' Camp stint.. or he's going to have to really pull the strength up from within and kick some Benry ***.
Angela12 10-26-2006, 12:54 AM Pretty sick stuff. Still, I'm sure Jack isn't squeamish about being around dead bodies -- that's how they learn to operate in med school, is it not? The real horror for him would not be that he was chained to a body but that he was chained to his own failure.
rabidranger 10-26-2006, 12:58 AM When Jack's incarceration first began I thought Ben and the Others had the upper hand and would be able to break him, but the scene that's being talked in this thread has made me re-think things. I think Jack is actually equal to the task and will prove to be more of a headache than Ben expects.
Save The Humans 10-26-2006, 01:06 AM The nice dress and nice breakfast for Kate = Kate "learning" to accept nice gestures?
The pacemaker con on James = James "learning" that he needs Kate?
The cuffing Jack next to Colleen = Jack "learning" you can't fix everything?
Kidnapping and killing and terrorizing = the lostaways "learning" . . .what?!
I'm beginning to think all of this is Ben's warped way of trying to "reform" all our characters. This theory is nascent in my mind, but it's beginning to take on some legitimacy to me. . . .
jeng8778 10-26-2006, 01:12 AM I thought that was pretty disturbing too. But it did make me think of Jack and his relationship with his father, and how Jack is mentally chained to his fathers corpse.

that is a nice pick up.

I think we've seen this dynamic before where Jack has been underestimated. By Locke since Jack stood on his own convinctions even though he was reluctant to be leader, Sawyer in the poker game, & recently even Juliet with Jack almost escaping.
I was taken back by how Jack seemed more emotionally stable than Juliet w/regard to the corpse too.

I kinda thought that Benry was not doing a number on Jack but on Julliet for bringing Jack there. Remember how upset he was to learn Julliet brought him in without consulting him? I think hes realised she's kinda sweet on Jack.
I guess Jack didn't know her. If you don't know someone as a surgeon and you're brought in at the last minute without the proper equipment you can't really see it as a failure or be that emotionally involved, it's just a job. I thought that was why he was less hung about it, he saw it as their problem. It's funny that Benry was supposed to be arguing against Juliet bringing Jack in, but when he did Benry then pulled the handcuffing stunt. I guess the point is Benry just makes things up as he goes along and is obviously an arch manipulator.
Lostie97210 10-26-2006, 09:56 PM I didn't think Jack was disappointed in the death at all. So chaining him to the body wouldn't really have any affect except to let him know he's stuck there. He didn't really try to save Colleen (did I get that name right?) anyway. Remember when he was reviving Charlie? He hit and pumped and tried and tried. He just gave up with this gal, which I was glad to see him do.
isabel_79 10-26-2006, 11:17 PM I agree that Jack didn't really put in much effort into saving Colleen. He wouldn't take her death as a personal failure. He didn't have the right equipment, he wasn't there from the start, etc. I doubt it was traumatizing to him. He didn't seem traumatized.
I loved when he said that he didn't care about making Juliet feel better.
