View Full Version : Another Florida reference?
LisiBee 10-26-2006, 02:49 AM I did a search, but didn't find a thread for this...
So, we got another Sawyer-related Florida reference tonight. Sawgrass and Rt. 441 are in South Florida. Add that to the Tampa Job and Tallahassee. Someone on the writing staff giving a shout-out to Florida? :71:
Lostgirl01 10-26-2006, 03:39 AM So, now Kate and Sawyer have both been in New Mexico, Iowa, and Florida, an amazing coincidence......

TRoss 10-26-2006, 06:54 AM HA! Good point, lostgirl.
LisiBee - I think you're right - it has to be one of the writers. I wonder which one it is?

He could've been talking about Sawgrass in Jacksonville, but still in Florida. And I've noticed that the Tallahassee references haven't been too flattering, so maybe a UF or UM grad.

Yeah, they do. Interesting, isn't it?

Does 441 run up to Jacksonville as well? At any rate, either reference would still be in Florida. And I've thought of that too, that whoever's doing the referencing might have some kind of grudge to bear. :msn-wink: I don't think any of the references have been particularly flattering, they all are in connection to some kind of criminal activity. You're right though, the Tallahassee references were particularly harsh (a town of strip malls, waffle houses, and a hot bed of debauchery, Sawyer-style).
DharmaChick 10-26-2006, 12:27 PM Nice catch! I think that we may be hearing more from Florida, especially relating to the "Tampa Job" and possibly Tallahassee.

The mention of Sawgrass and Rt. 441 can only mean South East Florida - Weston/Plantation (west of Ft. Lauderdale).
mooze 10-26-2006, 04:58 PM Yeah, it's gotta be Southeast Florida (where I live!).
Redbird 10-26-2006, 05:22 PM Yeah, it's gotta be Southeast Florida (where I live!).
Thats part of the Bermuda Triangle, I think?

I think there's definitely something in this. Kate and Sawyer seem to have alot of connections in the past, although to the best of my recollection the only connection we've actually seen is through Kate's mom. It'd be interesting if we could see some more of this. (You probably all know this already, but someone pointed it out on a different thread and I hadn't thought of it - Sawyer opens a bank account in New Mexico, Kate robs a bank in New Mexico)
baylady 10-26-2006, 05:38 PM But so far, we don't know if Sawyer technically has BEEN in New Mexico, but I'd say it's probably a safe bet it's something we'll see in the future. So far, he just had a bank account opened there.

Even if he hasn't been there, I think it's fair to say there's a connection.

Hadn't thought of that... Thanks for pointing that out.

It is? That would be an interesting twist.
Wow, good catch! Just checked on Wikipedia, and they have the following information to offer re: The Bermuda Triangle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bermuda_triangle): "The Bermuda Triangle's three corners are roughly defined by Bermuda, Puerto Rico, and Fort Lauderdale, Florida." Creepy.
Robflys 10-26-2006, 10:04 PM I live 1/2 mile from 441 and the Sawgrass in Coconut Creek, Florida.
My wife and I just looked at each other when they mentioned that and were like, "what the?!"
However, there is no place there with lockers, just a Chevy Dealership, and Infiniti Dealership and a place called Griff's Western (western wear, horse supplies, etc).
Hmm, unless there ARE lockers there?!
Probably just a weird conicidence, but I found it pretty creepy since that's literally around the corner from where I live.

danasully 10-26-2006, 10:27 PM The badge he was wearing in jail said "Florida". I didn't see what else it said on it though.I'm west coast florida and the only prison that comes to mind is Starke and that is north central or could've been a county jail...
lostmio 10-27-2006, 12:03 AM Back when Sawyer said "what could possibly make up for the Tampa job?", it sounded like he lost more than money there. For him, money's always been ~easy come, easy go~.
Something like Cass, with help from others, pulling a Clementine con on him - making him think he has a daughter, making him feel emotionally beholden, turning him into the biggest scum in prison:a snitch - would truly be a con that would make him ask that question of Hibbs..
GettinLost 10-27-2006, 12:14 AM The mention of Sawgrass and Rt. 441 can only mean South East Florida - Weston/Plantation (west of Ft. Lauderdale).
Absolutely!!

I have lived in Florida all my life and NEVER knew that Ft. Lauderdale was considered part of the Bermuda Triangle!!!! WOA!!!! (Guess that's where all their Spring Breakers went!) I'll have to ask my Bro and Sis-in-law about that!! She's from Lauderdale and they spent the first 10 years of their marriage there!! LOLl!!

Rob!! I bet that really freaked you guys out!!! Pretty wild, huh?!?

OOOOhhhhh... Lostmio... I don't like that as the Tampa Job... I had this "yucky" feeling of "what if he didn't get out of prison - wat if he was 'conned' into prison a while longer - you know what they do to a snitch..." NONONONONONONO!!!
alinebrz 10-27-2006, 12:26 AM Amazing point, lostgirl! And maybe in the future they will marry and live in the same house? lol

HA! I can see the new slogan now: "The Bermudat Triangle: The ultimate Spring Break Destination!" Since you could never leave, talk about your never-ending party.

Good eye, I didn't notice what the badge on his prison blues said. Can anyone find a good screencap of this?
Isn't there a federal prison in the Miami area? But odd that he'd be in prison in Florida, didn't the Cassidy con take place in Iowa? If he were in Florida when he got caught, wouldn't they extradite him to wherever the initial crime took place? Not to mention (on another tangent), if Cassie were living in New Mexico, would she really travel all the way to Florida to see him? Sorry, just thinking out loud here...
bakerboys 10-27-2006, 01:52 PM Here's a good screen cap of the badge; click the photo to enlarge it.

Thank you very much, bakerboys! It does indeed say "State of Florida" on that badge. Good eyes, you guys.
According to the offical Florida Department of Corrections (http://www.dc.state.fl.us/pub/annual/0405/facil.html) website, there are apparently 59 correctional institutions in the state. There are 16 in the South Florida area alone, so take your pick as to which one might have been holding Sawyer. :msn-wink:
jericho73 10-27-2006, 02:35 PM The mention of Sawgrass and Rt. 441 can only mean South East Florida - Weston/Plantation (west of Ft. Lauderdale).
441 and the Sawgrass run parellel <and are far, far apart> up in Plantation, and by Weston the Sawgrass has already turned into i-75. The Sawgrass and 441 intersect in Coral Springs/Coconut Creek, about 10 min from my house. But SE Florida is certainly right.
Joshypoo 10-27-2006, 02:41 PM I pass Sawgrass on the way to the Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood all the time... not that I have a gambling problem, well maybe? Anyway, Sawgrass Mills has a bunch of outlet stores - it's huge - you couldn't even shop them all in one day.
Being from Tampa...I get really excited every time I hear we are getting a Sawyer FB eppy! I hope the next one shows what happened during the "Tampa job"...But considering it musta gone really bad ("what could possibly make up for the Tampa job?")...I think the Tampa job may have been the one to land him in jail in the first place.
I have a hard time believing it could have been a real "tragedy"..like losing a "loved one"...That line is just a lil too flippant IMO. I think it may have ended with Sawyer having gotten "conned" again...but this time he ended up with some hard time....while Hibbs skipped off with the loot. Just a theory.
It would also be nice to see Tampa depicted on my favorite show.

Ator, count me as one who'd like to see the Tampa Job explained as well. However, I'm starting to think that the Tampa Job is just one of those things that we are going to be taunted with, but never shown. For all we know, it was just supposed to be a throwaway reference; it was only mentioned once by Sawyer, right? (I believe in "Confidence Man," someone correct me if I'm wrong.) Although I know the producers have said that there are no throwaway lines, surely that can't be true? We'd have to pay attention to everything, and I just don't have the time and brain power for that. :msn-wink:
niha pleeze 10-30-2006, 04:13 PM The idea came to me that the 'tampa job' was an unpleasant sexual manuever. i couldnt even begin to guess what it entails...

Ator, I'm across the bay in Clearwater. Until a recent news article I didn't realize there was such a big crime underground in Tampa, but it makes sense: it's a port town, money seems to change hands quickly around here, and the whole state was pretty "outlaw" until the forties! I hope we get to hear about some shooting (film that is) around town!

That's what the 'Lage is for, silly! ;) Eventually, we'll share one Big Brain. I believe that's what the creators are going for, yeah? :lol2:
flashbackfan 10-30-2006, 05:06 PM Wow,all these fellow Floridians! lol Yeah, it was cool to hear 441 mentioned in Sawyer's FB. I didn't do cartwheels but it was a bit of fun.
Jezz1226 10-30-2006, 06:32 PM The Tampa job story is definitely in the minds of the writers. They may tell that story in season three. Sorry it is a long summer for you. Hopefully the new episodes will be good and exciting enough to wait for.)
Gregg Nations response on the matter of the Tampa job (from August 9th), sounds like it will be eventually explained. I'm not to sure if we'll still get the reveal this season, since Sawyer's recent flashback took place in Fl seems to me like they might want to cover a different area of his life, but I'm usually wrong so who knows. :)
And I've noticed that the Tallahassee references haven't been too flattering, so maybe a UF or UM grad.

Though in all fairness to the writers that's true about Tallahassee ;) And I'm not even a UF or UM grad... :whistling2:okay so maybe I'm currently an undergrad at UF
Heidi 10-30-2006, 06:48 PM I'm from St. Petersburg, just across the bay from Tampa. I would LOVE to see the "Tampa job" depicted on LOST; in fact, I hope they film it there! Doubtful that would happen but it would be very cool.
LisiBee 10-30-2006, 06:51 PM The idea came to me that the 'tampa job' was an unpleasant sexual manuever. i couldnt even begin to guess what it entails...

Thank you for that quote from Gregg. That at least sounds a little encouraging that we might eventually get some answers. Eventually.

Hey now! Let's not start a UF/FSU cyber-war in what was a perfectly innocent and heretofore peaceful thread. :msn-wink: (And, of course, I feel honor-bound as an FSU grad to point out that Tallahassee is also home to two major state universities, as well as the State legislature. I guess Sawyer just wasn't spending time in the right part of town. :msn-wink:)
