When we see the flashback of the plane crash, Ben tells Goodwin and Ethan to run to the crash sites. If the crash truly was on the other island that Ben showed to Sawyer, how could they have run to the crash sites? Ben said that he is a better con man than Sawyer, I think he is setting him up for a looong con.

Yep. You're a good con Sawyer, but we're better.

You're assuming that their Suburban Compound is on the same island as the Hydra. The island that Ben showed Sawyer could very well have been where the plane crashed and where the Others' suburbia is.

They could have got there by boat or some kind of connecting tunnel i thin there is some method to reach Losties island by foot

I thought Otherville was on the same island as the Losties and that's where the plane crashed. They are on the Alcatraz island now but they don't live there.

I was telling my husband last night that the island Ben showed Sawyer looked like a mirage/holographic image to me. Just to fool Sawyer into thinking there's no escape. Sounds farfetched? Well, they've got a smoke monster with possible nanobot technology...

This is true. Remember in teh season 3 opener when the camera panned out from the village? Same island as the crash. Different than Hydra-traz

That makes a lot of sense considering the Pearl orientation video when they mention "hop on the ferry and return to the barracks at the end of your shift" or something of that nature.

Ben is most definetly never telling the truth and I love him for that.

I have no problem thinking that there isn't another island.
I think the pacemaker con was a distraction to the real con which is the fake second island. Ben wants Sawyer to think he can't escape and it apparently worked.

Doesn't smoky have the capabilities to project images?

I think there is one island. Maybe that was a bay?

I think there is only one island for another reason. What about the animals we see roaming around? Kate & Sawyer are in their cages so that tells me they are on the same island with them. Otherwise the animals would have to take a boat to get to the "losties island"...right???

Just poor CGI IMHO

Polar bears are good swimmers, so they wouldn't have a problem making the crossing.

But when the plane crashed, didn't Ben say to run to the other side of the island?

And when Jack, Sawyer & Kate were captured (and after Michael & Walt left - and Hurley started back to camp), didn't they march them off through the jungle?

Perhaps the two islands are connected via underground/underwater tunnel. Haven't we thought there was an underwater station? Benry was anxious to get Desmond's boat... Every answer we're given raises so many more questions. We're the ones who are dogpaddling.

Someone made a good point on another thread. When Ben is showing Sawyer the other island, he almost literally 'pulls a rabbit out of his hat'.

Well, a bag in this case, but the allusion is still a good one and leads me to think there is still some kind of con going on here.

Ok the little island seems to be a biological research center. It would not be unexpected to think the bears and animals lived on the main island and were brought to the small island for tests as needed. Otherville is on the main island as are the losties. The fact that Ben wanted the boat so that Syid and friends did not "find us" leads me to think he did not want them to find the small island as it is smaller and therefore harder to conceal it's secrets.

That is right along the same lines as I was thinking. They did admit to Jack that the holding cell he was in is under water. Mabye there's one part of the Hydra on one of the islands connected by tunnel on the other side?

Or perhaps it was high tide and water covered a lower elevation of the big island, making it APPEAR to be 2 separate islands.

I would tend to go with that theory since the blast map shows all the stations, including the Hydra, ON the same island with connecting escape hatches leading toward the center question mark (that were later sealed presumably because of "the incident").

BUT ..... where Jack is being kept is not necessarily in the same area where Sawyer and Kate are being kept - they are not imprisoned at the Hydra. And we've never seen any of them travel from the Hydra to the cages in REAL TIME. There may be a pretty far trek to get between them via some underwater tunnel, Pala Ferry, or whatever.

So it could be that the Losties wouldn't be able to find Sawyer & Kate without a boat, or access to the tunnel, ferry, etc.

Another issue is that one of Danielle's maps shows the "big island" from the same perspective that Sawyer viewed it. Was Danielle on the small island for a long period of time (long enough to draw an incredibly detailed map of the big island)? Or did she find it and steal it from an Other? She SAYS she's never seen anyone, but that's a bit hard to believe seeing as how our Losties can't swing a dead cat without hitting another new person.

Argh, so many questions and no good answers. Not yet, anyway! :)

I don't think Ben's still conning Sawyer, but maybe since if Karl (sp?) was legitimately being held by the others too, why did he tell Sawyer to run towards his Camp?
