View Full Version : Missing Mister Eko

He's only gone an hour, and I miss him already. Eko was truly one of the most intriguing characters on LOST.

It's great that Adewale's career is moving forward, and he's already on to other projects...but LOST won't be the same without him, at least not for me.

Eko's episodes were amongst the best (IMHO), and it's really disappointing not to be able to look forward to more Eko in the future. Who knows...perhaps he could still return in someone's else's flashbacks, dreams or visions. Or maybe Smokey will take over his body now (LOL).;)

<sigh> :12:

Too many loose ends were left...

I agree, Eko had potential in him, at least IMO. Being an Eko-fan, tonight's episode was both bitter and sweet. Eko's story and the island action were awesome, but the way he died was awful. :undecide:

It's all Locke's fault. If he had let Eko push that button from the start, then maybe Eko would not have blown up, dragged into a Polar Bear cave, attacked by Polar Bears, become delirious of his past and meet his tragic end.

Damn you Mr.Clean!

The only good things that I can say about it right now is that at least we got to see Smokey again, and perhaps that is how Sceve and the pilot met their demises. We heard the horn, the same one that was heard the first night on the beach.

So we have a couple of answers. Almost 2.5 years later, we saw Smokey attack and kill someone.

It seems like Eko's backstory was changed from what was originally planned (going by the images in The 23rd Psalm Smokey encounter). And/or they're doing what Gregg Nations has said about leaving some questions forever unanswered (which sounds like sugar-coating, to me).

Oh well.

I am hoping we get some answers to why he went to London in maybe Charlie's flashback.
I too miss him already.

This was the most emotional death I've seen on the show. That scene with little Eko and Yemi at the end was just tragic.

Wow. As one of the biggest Locke haters on the site, I hadn't even realized that. Damnit. That is four main characters that he's indirectly gotten killed. That dude is a menace.

I am so glad you mentioned that! Maybe they left the door open...why write that in, for no reason? Maybe... < tries not to get hopes up too high >

There's a spoiler (could be a foiler) that some February scenes are being shot to appear as taking place in London, so that Hawaii foilage will have to be air-brushed out.

Another thing I'm disappointed in is that it seemed a bit choppy in the FB's, like things were left out, even for the parts of the story they told.

There's been discussion on this board about such in other episodes, and it sounds like extra footage is being shot, possibly to be shown in entirety for reruns next summer (extended episodes), and/or for the Season 3 DVD.

You know the old saying: "I'll have to watch that again", but it could be interpreted that Eko reunited with Yemi in Heaven, as their young, innocent souls again.

I'm finding myself missing Eko as well. I actually didn't care for Eko until this episode. I was never really drawn in by the character, but found myself absolutely loving him tonight. That last speech he made to "Yemi" was amazing. It's frustrating to finally begin to care about a character, only to have them killed 5 minutes later.:frown:

Oh, man!:frown: But I'm glad you got to see a side of him you like, although I guess it would be easier if you hadn't (ugh). Maybe now when you go back and watch his other scenes, you'll see them in a new light.

Wow, I'm really bummed. As much as I knew it was going to happen, a part of me was hoping it was all foilers. Well anyway, Adewale will be on Regis & Kelly Thursday (tomorrow) morning, and lost-media.com will probably host the clip. He's a really good talk show guest.

Oh! And come join (or just post) Eko's Tribe (http://www.thefuselage.com/Threaded/showthread.php?t=23314), strwbrryflke!!!:)

You might be right about my attitude changing after I rewatch his eppys. I hated Ana Lucia for quite awhile, but liked her a lot more after rewatching her episodes after her death. If I find myself getting the warm-fuzzies when I revisit Eko, I may just have to join his tribe. ;)

It seems sad to me that Eko has now left without seeing any hint of what happened in the hatch. It seems all this "confess your sins" business should have been tied to him choosing to push the button and then blow up the door or whatever. That WAS his story arc in season two, so how could it have been ignored in his farewell?

Yeah Tabby, I'm going to miss Eko and I'm really upset, even if AAA wanted to go, I wasn't happy with the way Eko was written off :frown: I was willing to cut TPTB some slack for other deaths, but I have to admit my faith is shaking. And I agree it does seem like Eko's backstory was changed to accomodate this death. What were the rumors about this whole incident, how long ago did they know AAA wanted to leave etc.

I was so sure they would give the FB about his saying "Worse" to Jin's implied "are you married?", and IIRC, 2 of the women in his previous Smokey encounter (one looked pregnant) weren't resolved. It'll be a while before I think I understand this epi (if ever). I'm probably looking at it more negatively purely because I didn't want Eko to die.

Adewale was on Regis & Kelly and said (and I have read most of this in interviews with him from a long time ago):

he wasn't too sure about wanting to do another TV show, back when they asked him
it was planned up front
he has been working on a directorial project for 5 years already

He seemed in very good spirits though, and he said he liked the uncertainty of knowing that any character could be killed off at any time.

The directorial project is his autobiography, and I believe that he's also going to write and act in it. It'd be great to see him on other projects, but I'll miss him on LOST!:frown:

Check lost-media.com for a clip; not sure how quickly they make them available.

Yeah, I really wanted to see his Hatch Failsafe experience, and how he got into the cave.

pen: I forgot to mention that on another thread, we discussed the possibility of seeing Eko in FB's, since he was leaving for London soon. And we didn't see anything about him going to Australia.

And there's a spoiler that some scenes are being shot to appear as London...I believe it said for February.

Also, in a print interview (I believe), Adewale spoke of the difficulty of shooting LOST in Hawaii--being isolated so far away from family and friends.

What a lame way to get rid of a very loved character.

I never thought a characters death on a TV show could make me so depressed. I'm in denial that Eko is dead. I told my brother "He's not dead! I just KNOW" and then I went into my room and he came in and said "Are you crying?" and I said "No.... Maybe..."
Honestly, I didn't think I could get so depressed about a character... :frown:
I miss Mr. Eko already. It was such a tragic and sad death.... I could seriously feel every hit Eko had to take against a tree or the ground. It was so freakin' sad.

I loved him too, it's a bummer to see him go but I loved the way he left. His words to Yemi (or faux Yemi?) were so touching. He was ready, ready to confess he DID NOT repent. Why should he? Who says he had to? Why would he feel sorry for what he did? If we put all our ethics or personal values aside, we find those questions. And IMO, Eko was correct. He also showed he still believed, he saw the monster and knew he was facing death, and what he did? He prayed.
I wish we could have seen more of his story, even if it had the same end. I loved the character, he was such a great antihero, if not THE antihero of this series.

I must say I'm really upset about Eko's death, he was one of my fave characters, and I didn't expected him to die. I really enjoyed his flashbacks, and he was one of the most interesting IMO.
Anyways it was a good ep, and Eko didn't disappoint me. But I hope to see him more...maybe in some fb or something...I really wanted to know more about him.
At least we've seen the black smoke in action.

I keep thinking of the scene at the end with him & his brother as kids and his quote to Yemi at the church --
"You live in world where righteousness and evil seem very far apart, but that is not the real world"

I get all misty.

I like to think those scenes meant that Eko was reunited with Yemi, in the afterlife. If you look at the look on his face (as he died), he looked happy and enthralled.

When people discuss near-death experiences, there are always those that say "those were just that person's thoughts"...well, in spite of what some are saying about Eko not being redeemed, etc...refer to my first 2 sentences.;)

Its sad that he, in season two, regained his faith and became a person of faith for the losties, but he went out having lost all his faith

Daphne
11-03-2006, 12:39 AM
He didn't lose his faith. At all. He showed that people sin, but they don't have to always ask for forgiveness, much less if they don't repent. "I am who I am" got a new meaning with Eko. He didn't lose his faith, he saw Smokey and prayed. He acknowledged he wasn't a saint, not even a "good" person, but still, he believed. Isn't that the situation of most humans who profess a religion?
Eko still rocks in my book, and I have to say that the rebel in me felt exalted when he said "I ask for no forgiveness, father, for I have not sinned".

I am really missing Eko. During the eppisode i was actually crying.:crying:I loved his accent and I also really liked his eyes. I know TPTB have their master plan but I am going to be sad for at least another month.

I really liked Eko, I loved the interaction with him and Locke especially. I thought it was fitting that Locke was there when he died. My sis will really miss him, he was one of her favorites.
