View Full Version : All but given up on Lost? Why are you still watching?

Many of us feel that Lost jumped the shark (or "blew the hatch" as it were) with last week's killing of Eko by the smoke monster. Many others feel it happened long before then. Regardless of when or even if you think Lost has jumped the shark, if you've all but given up on the show, why are you still watching?

Voted.
It was a hard decision to make but I voted.
All three choices for me.
1) Well, no explanation on that one.
2) This one is so true for me. Two years and I was hoping it would have kept me more interested in the storyline. Now it's just for #1 and a little bit of #3.
3) The ultimate Long Con. If this is the case, congrats to the writers.

And that's what I'm hoping for -- we've all been conned.

Huskie, it's so sad to see you here.

True. I guess I had higher expectations than when I got hooked on the first season episodes.

And that's what I'm hoping for -- we've all been conned.

Wouldn't that be something? The big con but not like those other series where they're all dead, or the main character dreamed it all.

Don't be sad and wanted to add that you do have one of the best sigs. :)

Sometimes I do get dissapointed with but uh if you think it jumped the shark-it jumped the shark when 40 + people survived a plane crash, not even possible.

Anyway while the show does dissapoint they usually come back with another good show and reminds me why I love the show

Honestly, a huge part of why I watch this show is the charachters. I have had my ups and downs as far as my opinion of the episodes and where the show seems to be headed overall, but if it wasn't for the strength of a few of the charachters I wouldn't have cared in the first place.

Love them or hate them, the losties, the Others, and the in-betweeners (Danielle, Desmond etc.) are usually more than good enough a reason for me to tune in. Honestly, if they were written badly or poorly acted, no matter how interesting the plot was I wouldn't care.

If I could vote for all three options on the poll, I would.

n all honesty, I am not sure if I will continue to watch the show when it returns in January, unless I see or hear something that makes me think the show is getting back to it's roots - THE ISLAND.

You need more choices. I can't vote because there is no "Lost is still the greatest show ever and just keeps getting better" option. I know this poll is for people who have "all but given up watching", but I had to put in my two cents anyway.

Because I'm addicted. It's either this or horrible withdrawl.

Plus I'm hanging on to the good old days and the times when they do wow me or show me something that makes me happy inside. I voted i've invested too much time. i guess that one fits best.

The flashback scheme is really what hurts the show. So many characters..introducing so many people no one cares about. There is very little room to move the story foward. You have to wait like 5 months to finish a conversation

My opinion is we've lost the heart of the show. It was a creative mistake to drag the "capture" out so long. Separated Losties are not the reason we came to the show in the first place. Hurley, Charlie, Claire, they've had like what... four lines the entire "mini" season? What happened to finding fun things in the flashbacks, the numbers, DHARMA clues? When did this show somehow become a melodrama of Sawyer being punched every four minutes, Kate tearing up every four minutes, and Ben making creepy faces every four minutes? WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REAL "LOST"?

I still watch in hopes that they will go back to the other characters and show them more, if it turns into a show where its constantly Jack, Kate and Sawyer 90% of the episode i might be tempted to stop watching, but i probably won't.

Why I Still Plan To Watch LOST
1. Desmond.
2. Jack in Otherville.
3. Kate & James stick to their love commitment?
4. Who is Mr. Eyepatch?
5. Still hoping Rose & Bernard will show up.

Why I'm still hardcore LOST:

Still the best and most original show on TV.
Still the most fun show on TV.
Still has the best writing for a show of it's kind.
Hasn't dumbed-down the show for stupid people just to inflate ratings.
Keeps moving forward, instead of re-shooting Season 1.
Kate is hot. (There, I said it. Happy now?)
Nothing else on TV on Wednesday night.
Still the best characters and use of characters on TV.LOST is simply a unique show. There's never been anything like it before so it get's a long leash from me because there is nothing else to measure it to. There have been other "Society in a Bottle" programs in the past and most only lasted one season or two. The most successful of these types of shows were "Gilligan's Island", which was a slap-stick comedy with cartoon characters and 'Land of the Giants", which was SciFi/Fantasy that had interesting characters in an interesting situation. The only other shows that operated on the same character model were "The Love Boat" and "Fantasy Island", but those depended on a new cast and new story each week.

So you can see why LOST is a diamond in the rough.

I'd vote in your poll, but my option/feeling isn't listed. I will watch until the end. Period. I find the whole of it still mind mashing and bits of it mind bending. Endings, are just beginnings. It's why the show is what it is. Unique. It's why we loved it in the first place. It's not Melrose Place, Gilmore Girls, My Name is Earl, Ghost Whisperer or the O.C. It's Lost. It's its own entitiy.

I disagree with this one. I feel like they're playing to the lowest common denominator.

My thoughts too. My opinion is not listed as a choice in the poll.
Yes LOST has changed. It's not worse, it's not better - it's different than S1. Yes there are thinggs about S3 I'm not really happy with. IMHO S1 had a few clunker eppys too (Special, Hearts & Minds, Numbers). I'm going to keep watching until the end because I want to.

If it was still like S1, people here would be whining amd moaning about how nothing new ever happens on show.

I thought this thread was for people who were thinking of quitting the show but can't seem to ? Not for happy fans to give their reasons why they are sticking with it?

Anway...

I'm agree with this. I've put too much time in it but at the same time sometimes I wish I could just walk away.

I'm hoping for a long con... :)

No, LOST is currently not as thrilling as it used to be but it's still one of the better TV shows out there.

I seem to have a rather high tolerance for TV shows moving along past their prime (or is that called patience... I hung with X-Files until season six  ). I'll probably stick around until the bitter end... hoping, until the bitter end, that there will be one last twist that will make my jaw drop like it used to... way back when in season one.

I agree with Petragirl 100%. I don't know why, but I still keep hoping that the writers will pull it out of the mire and get back to the good stuff, like season 1. I would vote for "invested so much time" as well... but I think the "long con" fits best for how I am feeling.

Cause I get bored and I have nothing better to do with my time... I like my Tuesday/ Wednesday TV line up... it'd be weird without it.

I picked option #3, although #2 applies as well. I kept watching this season, hoping each week that Lost would go back to being the show that it was. I can't hope for that anymore. Even though the next eps are months away, many of them have already been written and filmed, so there's every reason to expect that they'll be no different from the last six.

I've invested a lot of time and energy into the first two seasons, not just in watching the episodes but in theorizing and discussing with friends/co-workers. It's become an addiction that's difficult to break.

I'm going to try to make the next 13 weeks as Lost-free as possible, and then see how I feel in February. I'd still like to know about the smoke monster, the man with the eyepatch, and whether Penny finds the island. And I'd like to know what happens to some of my favorite characters: Locke, Sayid, Desmond. But for the most part these three have been so badly written this season that I'm not sure I want to go back and see the characters further destroyed.
