Kate and Sawyer had the chance to gain at least 8 hours or more of a head start, instead of giving in to their obvious attraction towards eachother. If she knew his death was coming why not make an attempt to bail and RUN? (seems rather Kate-Like to run) Maybe im just not that observant, but shouldn't Sawyer have noticed that the alarm wasnt going off when his lock was broken? Ben told Sawyer that he had turned off the power to his cage in a previous episode, which should of given away the fact that they are being watched. Yet, he still doesn't clue in that a major opportunity has been dropped right into their laps.

Can someone help fill in the gaps here. I'm trying to make sense of this whole being held captive yet not caring about their own freedom.

Sawyer knows there is nowhere to escape because they are on a different island, that's why he didn't run. He told Kate this too so she knows.Unless they have a boat, which I'm not sure they even know how to sail by themselves. And about the one hour head start- Jack's assuming they are on the same island. He thinks Kate can get a one hour head start towards their camp, but, in reality, Kate is stuck on this little "Alcatraz".

The surgery had not started at that point. Kate & James would've easily been recaptured (just as Alex was "disarmed" of her slingshot!). After all, there was nowhere for them to go! And with no Jack-cut-the-kidney-sac blackmail move to put Pickett/The Others in check, who knows what would've happened to them? Probably what was about to happen to James, when Tom's walkie-talkie call broke into the proceedings.

One hour, eight hours, 10 days--it wouldn't have mattered. Not with the main Island over 2 miles away! Not before Jack's blackmail plan kicked in. After all, James and Kate had no weapons, Hydra Island is tiny, they had no idea that The Others had Desmond's boat (or even if it's docked at Hydra), and didn't know about the sub (only Jack overheard Ben/Juliet's convo about that). All the two would've succeeded in doing was make The Others (like Pickett!) even angrier at them!

They did not run the time that they had sex because Sawyer knew they were on the second island and there was no way off without a boat.

They are obviously going to run now since Pickett was seconds away from shooting Sawyer in the head.
