I think it is safe to say that as smart as Ben is with his planning and all, Jack is starting to read him and is starting to plan ahead and out think him.

What are some examples that you can recall where Jack has out smarted Ben?

Example- Ben has Kate brought in to see Jack to convince him to do the surgery and Jack says no-----Ben get crazy

I don't think we can trust any of Ben's reactions or emotions as being true (considering his acting in the hatch). Ben would not let Jack operate on him without making sure that Jack could not use the situation to his advantage, which he did, so Ben has to have something up his sleeve.

1: Ben is pretty desperate. Jack is apparently the only spinal surgeon on the island and Ben presumably thinks he has 1 week left. Maybe Ben doesn't have anything up his sleeve. Besides, if Jack kills him, what can Ben do?
2: we can definitely trust Ben's reactions when they're not in sight of Kate and Jack. Who was there to deceive in the TV room? Nobody.

Jack....outsmarting Ben? Buwahahahahahahahaha! [what's the code for the emoticon that's on its side, laughing and turning over]

As Morrissey croons in the great song by The Smiths Death of a Disco Dancer "Oh, very nice, very nice, but maybe in the next world, maybe in the next world".

All that scheming by Jack and he's still a freaking idiot, because he doesn't know that they're on Pala (Alcatraz). Ben is still one step ahead of him.

Ben has Juilet up his sleeve, he knew that Jack may end up stopping the surgery to test out the relationship between him and Kate to escape. Though i think Pickett ruined Ben's plan to let Sawyer and Kate get out, since they are no use of them, since they already got together. Though i would say Jack has the upper hand, but in episode 8, we just have to see.

Why would Benry risk his own life just to form some part of an elaborate ruse? Ben was already dying from his tumours anyway, so he would have nothing to lose. Jack was his last hope as there were no doctors left after Ethan. It makes sense.
