I got the feeling Alex was "in on it". She came on the intercom telling Jack to open the door, which led to his seeing Kate and Sawyer all cuddled up.

Hmmm, I always thought she was so innocent, and helpful to our LOSTies...but who can you trust on this show???

I really want to believe that Alex is somewhere in limbo between The Others and the others.

The producers said that Carl wasn;t a plant, but they also said we'd find out his fate. I find it hard to believe they killed Karl with all the "we're not killers" talk.

Karl is Alex' boyfriend. The Others have him locked up. Why? We don't know yet. My guess is that he was one of the first three Tailies taken on Night One. There's no indication that there is anyone close to Alex' age among The Others--so a peer would attract Alex like a magnet. Until he tried to rebel.

Isn't it possible that she was helping Jack escape and didn't know that he would go into the tv monitor room?

Anyway, I now have know idea if Karl is alive or not.

But based on the preview I think we can still trust Alex. We see her running away with Kate and Sawyer.

I agree. I think she was sincere. I also think she may know that Juliet and Pickett are plotting to kill Ben, and is trying to save him. Juliet had an evil look on her face when she lied to Ben and said Alex hadn't asked about him, when in fact she had demanded to see him. When Alex screamed, "What did you do to him?" I think she may have been talking about Ben, not Karl.

I don't think that would work, because Karl asked Sawyer all kinds of naive questions about what kind of people the Lostaways were. Even if he was from the Tailaways group, he has to realize they were all survivors of the same plane crash.

Karl is Alex's boyfriend but we don't know if he's dead or where The Others are keeping him. I don't belive Karl to be a tailie, either. I do hope they follow up on this in February.

I'm leaning toward Carl being one of the children born on the island, like Alex, and like Claire's baby Aaron.

Yes, I'm in the camp that Ben is like a father to all of the children born on the island, or perhaps taken from others on the island. Alex is different, and given a certain amount of freedom, because she is not one of The Others. She is a product of The Others.

Karl seems younger than that. Karl is talked down to, forced to apologize to grown-ups. He's treated like a boy, not a young man.

Alex seems to be given more responsibility -- being with Claire in the medical scenes, wearing a suit jacket when she tells Kate the dress looks better on her, access to the intercom, having some relationship with Ben. (Ben says in last night's episode, "Did Alex ask about me?" or something like that.) Alex is treated more like a young adult... even if her character is being portrayed as a renegade.
