So if she was "almost pregnant", it must have been by her stepfather.

I think this was way after she killed her dad.

My thinking is she was OK being tied down by a man she loved but not by a child... that was way too much of an imprisonment on her constant running/ need for freedom.

She was married to Kevin, I assumed it "might" have been his kid. I think the fact that she had a close call made her realize that she couldnt settle down, i dont think the point of the scene was to show Kate being not pregnant other than as a wake up call.

I think she meant that she since she was a fugitive who killed her step-father she shouldn't be bearing a child who could do the same.

The thought of being pregnant and tied down to a family scared her.

Who else had the ABC special alert thing across the bottom of the screen? I couldn't even SEE Kate's pregnancy test. So it was definitely negative then? She was crying so much when she looked at it, that I was confused.

This makes me wonder: just what would it take for Kate to turn on Sawyer? What would he ever do to tie her down? Perhaps she thinks he never would and that's why she loves him.

It would be awful hard to be on the run and be dragging a child along with you. I think that was her wakeup call. Being on the run and in danger alone is one thing, but how could you put the life of your child in such danger? She had to leave at that point to prevent that from becoming a reality.

She was crying tears of relief that she WASN'T preggers, AND tears of bitterness, because she finally realized that "settling down" wasn't something that she could ever do. (Ed Mars seems to have known her better than she knew herself, eh?)

yes it was negative, and I got the special alert when Kate and Sawyer were cuddling and Saywer said I love you, talk about a mood killer!

REMEMBER FOLKS!! Wayne is NOT her Step-Father!!!! Wayne is her REAL father!! The mandshe called "Dad" in the military was not her real Father, he just raised her from when she was little baby. Her Mom got pregnant with Kate when her "Dad" was away in the military. He came back found Dianne pregnant with Kate but raised her till she was around 5 y//o. The Wayne and Dianne started up again and Kate's "Dad" left Dianne.

My guess was that she and Kevin had almost gotten pregnant but it didn't happen. And as mentioned, a child would "tie her down" from running.

So Kate blew up Wayne simply because he was a mean guy?
Who does that?

I don't think that story has played out fully.

She seemed to be relieved but with a tinge of disappointment. Going back to the first scene where she carefully takes the wedding veil out of the box - the veil represents this life that is so foreign and unattainable for her. The pregnancy test seems to represent the same thing and parallel that scene. A life of normalcy, of settling down. She seems to long for it, yet know that it isn't possible.

I thought he was abusive to her in some way. That's why she killed him. I also thought that Wayne didn't even know that he was her real father.

I believe you are right - Wayne didn't know he was Kate's father. And yeah, I think he was abusive to Kate's Mother.

She killed him to make the abuse stop. There's always been speculation that Wayne may have sexually abused Kate but nothing has been proven in the show yet.

I remember that episode where Kate blew up her Dad. He was in the bedroom and he acted very creepy to her---I just got the feeling that he had sexually abused her in the past. Her Mom seemed like a very meek woman; maybe she knew that Kate was sexually abused by him but she was too terrified of him (or mentally ill) to do anything about it.
It was obvious that Kate's Mom was abused by him as well.
I would not be surprised to find out that Kate's Mom suffered from mental illness or something to that effect.

Do you think she was in the same mental ward as Hurley?

Sorry if this is an old topic:
This is how I add up the clues re. Kate.

1. Kate was 'molested' after breakfast with Benry. Impregnanted by Juliet, the 'fertility doctor'. Kate was put out, while struggling at her handcuffs, so does not realize this, just can feel something 'down there' that's not right. Kate likely thinks she was raped. That's why she acts so sheepish and ashamed when asked about it by Sawyer and Jack.

2. The Others set up Kate and Sawyer to have sex in the cage in a way that made them think it was all their own idea. (while they watched the whole thing, and made sure Jack caught the highlight reel). It's how they figured that Kate would accept her getting preggo and raising the Other baby as her own and Sawyer's. That was the con being played on the both of them.

3. The flashback episode is telling us that Kate is infertile, as Jin was. (and Sun was at 1st told) That's why she was crying over the negative preggo test. It wasn't the first time she'd tried to get pregnant with her beloved hubby....and it's why she knew it was time to go.

4. The Others do not realize this; as they did not know about Jin's problems either. So it's now 2 babies that the Others have created into very "worried" mothers that know something is not right about their little "Island Miracles".

5. Actually, it's 3; since Claire didn't know how she got pregnate either. Hers was done before coming to Lostia.

LOL confusing. Military guy was her legal father and her "emotional" father. Wayne was her biological father and probably legally her step father. No matter what the biology is, I believe Kate views military guy as the real father figure in her life.

I think the pregnacy scare made Kate/Monica realize she could not subject a child or her new husband to the things that would happen if she were caught. She fled because she wanted to avoid hurting her husband even worse than her leaving him would.

It wasn't, diablo. I was able to see it and double checked to make sure. I just "knew" it would be the same test that Claire and Sun used. As Locke said in LTDA, "I was wrong!" :)

Oooooh! I think you are right, Crimson! Also, he knows most of her faults and doesn't see them as such. He likes her just the way she is.

I have thought all along that Wayne either tried to sexually abuse Kate and she was able to fight him off or he did when she was younger and couldn't fight as well. Too many things about her character point to this.
