where are they going?
What spurred the detour?
Why does sayed not seem to be trusting john anymore?

What?

Sayid and John were going back to the beach to get shovels, but took a detour to get Eko's stick.

:hesaid:

But good question about Sayid. He did seem very suspicious of Locke. But Sayid is almost always suspicious.

There are two places they will most likely find:

1) The Othersville, or;
2) The long rumoured "The Flame" station.

Yeah this detour quote bugged me too. When I saw the Jesus Stick, I thought, well maybe that could be where they went, but Locke seemed so focused on the island mystery again, that even after I saw the Jesus stick, I thought maybe that they had stopped someplace else too. And maybe I just missed this, but why would it make sense for Locke to put Eko's jesus stick someplace other than than back at the camp?
And with Locke saying that Eko's death meant something that they would find out, are we lead to believe that Locke found out that his death lead Locke to the direction of look north? I'm afraid that we are back to Locke claiming sacrifices to the island. Eko follows in Boone's footsteps. Locke, why couldn't you just read the freakin' stick when it hit you on the head?

Saiyid is an expert at knowing when people are lying.

Locke was responsible for the hatch getting blown to bits. And his talk about Eko dying 'for a reason' harkens back to his 'Boone was a sacrifice that the island demanded' mantra. I personally like Locke, but I'm not sure I'd trust him completely at this point either.

I don't think that sayid doesn't trust locke, I just think he knew that locke was hiding some inside info from the newbies, and didn't want to say too much in front of them--so sayid tagged along to pump him fo rinfo. Locke didn't seem to afraid to tell him anything as they parted from the group.

Anyways, this wouldn't be the first time locke has withheld information. Wasn't sayid one of the people who went along with him and jack to see the hatch for the first time?
