View Full Version : Where was the cliffhanger/big-reveal?
Wonderbrick 11-09-2006, 02:49 AM Where was the big reveal I thought was promised? I was waiting for some big revelation, or atleast a big cliffhanger, but instead we get a poorly thoughtout plan by Jack. 1 hour headstart? That is not going to acomplish anything.
Very disappointing end to the mini-season.
Distress Signal 11-09-2006, 02:52 AM Yeah, I didn't see anything "brain-frying" or "jump-the-shark" moment. It's really confusing me. *facepalm* what are they doing to us this time....
I know, I was kinda disapointed as well. I felt like it was a fine episode on it's own, but as the last one till Feb., I wanted to just be crawling with anticipation.
So I'm making my own. I'm going to take Ben at his word, and when Jack fixes him, Jack is getting off the island (and not just that island, but back to civilization)
Weeping_Buddha 11-09-2006, 03:02 AM Couldn't agree more...
But I do hate the over-rated promos more than tonight's episode... "THE BEST EPISODE"... Come on!!
Chuckp123 11-09-2006, 03:03 AM I thought the cliffhanger was very well done. I'm really looking forward to what happens from there. As for the big reveal, there are supposed to be two big reveals/bombs/redefining moments coming in the early part of the second half of the season. The first is supposed to be a big character bomb, and the second is going to be big plot bomb which should, in the words of Damon Lindelof, "fry everyone's mind." This must be what you were thinking of.
bakerboys 11-09-2006, 03:25 AM I don't remember TPTB mentioning a 'big reveal'. I believe they said that there would be a 'mini-cliffhanger' which there was. Will Ben live? Will Kate and Sawyer escape? Will Jack escape, too?
As for the reveal, maybe you're thinking of the episode description which said something like "Locke finds something which reveals..." and Locke found the inscription on Eko's Jesus stick and took it as a sign of some kind. I'm sure we'll find out more about this later.
torb28 11-09-2006, 02:49 PM I thought in a promo a few weeks ago we were told that in the next six weeks we would find out why "they are still alive." I don't exactly know who this is referring to, but I assumed it was the 815 survivors. I didn't find out why anyone was alive.
MyLost 11-09-2006, 04:12 PM I was looking for the "Whoa" moment that Lost has done in the past, but it never came.
I thought they would kill Sawyer for a moment. No cliffhanger for sure.
jj9126 11-09-2006, 04:14 PM I think they made a massive mistake by not having the nail-biting "slingshot scene" as the last moment of the mini-season.
Can you imagine if the episode had ended with the Alex getting ready to shoot a rock into Pickett's forehead (with a quick shock to black and the LOST logo)? The tension would have been nearly unbearable.
What will be the fate of these two characters we barely know?
If she does it...will he bleed? Will he have a black and blue? Does she have...more rocks?

Too funny....to continue on with your thought.............
Where did she learn to handle a slingshot like that? Does she have a secret island stash of them?? Is there secret carvings on the handle?? What if she would hit him in the eye and put his eye out?!?!?! Maybe the man on the monitor with the eye patch is a victim of Alex and her slingshot!!!!!!!!!!

LOL, more Island mysteries. I'm sure we'll get answers to one or more of them long before we see Sun & Jin again.
scottk517 11-09-2006, 04:55 PM Jack will save Ben and be taken off the island to the Island to meet Locke, who they wanted for his other kidney.
LightMeDark 11-09-2006, 05:18 PM That's pretty much what I said to my girlfriend after we finished watching the show...she got mad at me and told me not to talk to her about Lost anymore, haha.

LOL. As much as I hate the second island plotline, it would have made for a nice cliffhanger if we didn't know about it before this episode and we saw Kate and Sawyer run while Jack was waiting in the OR... only to see them get to the edge of the cliff and realize there's nowhere to run.

Yes! That would have been much more effective, in my eyes. It would have left me desperate to see where they were going to go from there, what the two island scenario meant, what the Others would do (especially Pickett!) etc etc.
As it happened, I couldn't help feeling deflated after the big 'cliff hanger'. I just hope it picks up in February, more hunter Locke and more Sayid please!!

christmas_babies 11-10-2006, 02:39 PM I was really disappointed. Everything except for the last 10 minutes, we already knew from the previews. What exactly did we learn in that episode? Not nearly enough for the fall season finale.

LOL
Did the slingshot bring the Losties to the island? Is the slingshot "Him"?
We may never know....

Kayube 11-11-2006, 09:49 AM I thought I saw a promo earlier that said that these past two episodes would "change the way you see the island." That didn't happen at all... If any episode changed the way we saw the island, it was Every Man For Himself, since we saw the island from another island!
andylekker 11-11-2006, 12:34 PM when the episode finished i was a little disappointed becuase i was hoping for an 'island mythology' type cliffhanger - although one of the most interesting lines in the show imo was locke saying to sayid ( about the smokemonster ) that 'it may be what bought us here ' - pretty big reveal ?
i thought that was pretty big and i posted a thread about it to very little response so far
http://thefuselage.com/Threaded/showthread.php?t=64418
so it just goes to show that it's a matter of opinion.
basically the cliffhanger was a character driven one and for that it was pretty good.
Coakesy 11-11-2006, 01:21 PM I was left feeling very disappointed by that episode. I was expecting abit more TBH. It would have been abit more of a cliff hanger for me if Kate would have told Jack that they are on a different Island and that they would need a boat.
Now because she didn't say anything like that I expect them to get away but will get captured again.
I definetly rememeber reading that TPTB said before season 3 even started that something unfolds on the show in eppy 3.6 that will have fans thinking Lost has "jumped the shark" or they will be even more riveted than before in the show.
Meh. Looks to me like at the time of that quote, they didn't have the layout quite set of when the "big reveal" would take place...I don't feel like we saw it in "I Do" for sure. I didn't feel like the show "jumped the shark", nor am I any more riveted...worse yet...I kinda felt nothing!
I mean, the two island reveal...or the Patchy the Hatch Monkey reveal were far more riveting. Even the smoke monster throwing Eko around like a sack of potatoes offered more of a shock. Could it be TPTB had to make some storyline adjustments that moved this "earth shattering" Lost storyline shocker to another eppy?...If so, have we already seen it? Or is it yet to come?
If the big moment was "Kate sleeps with Sawyer"...I'm very disappointed.
A great eppy on it's own...but not a great cliffhanger comparatively speaking.
Ar-Pharazon 11-11-2006, 02:51 PM To me, the 'jump the shark' moment they promised seems to have happened when there was no 'jump the shark' moment. I expect at least a little bit of 'wow' or 'huh?' in a good Lost episode, especially at the culmination of a 'mini-season'. This epi had absolutely none of either.
With all the prior talk that 'the moment' would be when Jack went over to the Others, I was all set up to see the shocking opposite . . . I fully expected him to continue to refuse to do Ben's surgery, at the expense of Sawyer's life. That would have been a real shocker, and given Sawyer's popularity a very potential 'jump the shark' moment for many fans. Too bad that (or something equally interesting) did not happen.
prometheus 11-11-2006, 03:59 PM LOL. it would have made for a nice cliffhanger if we didn't know about it before this episode and we saw Kate and Sawyer run while Jack was waiting in the OR... only to see them get to the edge of the cliff and realize there's nowhere to run.
That would be quite the... cliffhanger... LOL.
bumpygrimes 11-11-2006, 05:03 PM The big shock was that there wasn't a big shock. It's pure genius!
