View Full Version : I'm proud of everyone here
CloudStrife 11-09-2006, 04:07 AM Unless I missed it, there was no thread created asking if Kevin from Kate's flashback was Ethan.
I swear, at least half my family thought that he was Ethan. I had to tell them multiple times that it was Nathan Fillion of Firefly/Serenity fame before they finally believed me.
I was sure that when I got on here I'd see the weekly "was that _____?" thread.
I'm proud of you guys.
piscescat 11-09-2006, 04:10 AM From a distance there's some similarity in looks, but up close they are so different.
baylady 11-09-2006, 04:21 AM Unless I missed it, there was no thread created asking if Kevin from Kate's flashback was Ethan.

Then you missed it because I saw at least one back in the first hour after the show was over on the east coast.
asim1701 11-09-2006, 04:23 AM Hey did you guys see Ethan in this ep!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! in kate's flashback!! I *heart* Ethan!!! Man he is such a brilliant actor! Ethan Ethan Ethan Ethan Ethan Ethan Ethan Ethan Ethan Ethan Ethan Ethan Ethan Ethan Ethan
My family so dumb they thought that it was just some other guy, I had to tell them multiple times it was Ethan before they believed me
Angela12 11-09-2006, 04:27 AM A couple of people in the crowd I was watching with remarked that he looked like Ethan, but were smart enough to recognize that it wasn't him.
CloudStrife 11-09-2006, 04:27 AM My family so dumb they thought that it was just some other guy, I had to tell them multiple times it was Ethan before they believed me
lol...
sheba 11-09-2006, 04:30 AM My son asked if it was Ethan. He's not a Firefly fan.
He11FiRe 11-09-2006, 04:36 AM I won't lie, I thought the same thing for a few seconds. I actually had to pause it to make sure. They do look a lot alike, and I recognized Nathan Fillion the second I saw him. I was waiting for the person on the other side of the door to be someone I recognized, it just so happens it was from a different show/movie.
ekoistheman 11-09-2006, 04:47 AM Yup same here i did think so for a split second i had to do a dbl take thats for sure then i recognized em and realized who it was.
weasel-king 11-09-2006, 04:47 AM Looks nothing like Ethan. My wife did say, though, "Hey, it's the guy from 'Two Guys, a Girl, and a Pizza Place.'"
thatdog62 11-09-2006, 08:34 AM He played Joey on "One Life to Live" years and years ago.
bkthiess 11-09-2006, 09:11 AM Looks nothing like Ethan. My wife did say, though, "Hey, it's the guy from 'Two Guys, a Girl, and a Pizza Place.'"
Wow, didn't see that coming!
lostlocke 11-09-2006, 09:26 AM I knew who this actor was right away, he used to be on the soap opera "one life to live". He played a character named Joey, that was a looong time ago though! I still know him as Joey though, no matter how many jobs he gets or characters he plays!
Sunflo4477 11-09-2006, 09:31 AM He was Joey from One Life to Live so I know it wasn't Ethan, plus I'd think Kate would have known no?....
JoZay 11-09-2006, 09:39 AM Kevin is not Evilthan. As people stated above Nathan Fillion played Joey Buchanan, a cute teenager, on ABC's soap One Life now he's a grown up handsome brute, <sigh> The character of Ethan Rom is played by William Mapother. (note the "other" in his name.. . )
biggerricker 11-09-2006, 11:23 AM Not even I could mistake Nathan Fillion for Ethan, and I am."that guy" when it comes to "was that _____?" threads
danmo 11-09-2006, 11:39 AM wow, how does anyone even think that nathan fillion looks anything like william mapother. i'm dissapointed.
DharmaChick 11-09-2006, 12:39 PM Two of the people I was watching with thought that he looked similar, but we all knew that it wasn't him. Plus we knew that he was the actor from Firefly/Serenity.
I didn't see much of a resemblance anyway.
kimbrchick 11-09-2006, 12:51 PM I love Nathan Fillion so it's funny to think anyone thought he looks like Ethan. Nathan is so much more handsome. I'm a huge Firefly/Serenity fan so it was great to see him in my favorite TV show. I love when two fandoms converge. Oh and he was also Bill Pardy in Slither. :)
omgimsolost 11-09-2006, 02:06 PM I actually saw a thread stating that kevin was Ethan...I about laughed to death. Some people will reach..REALLY reach.
pinkrose 11-09-2006, 02:08 PM I think they look like they could be related, but nothing more. I think he looks a lot more like Tom, Kate's childhood friend who got killed. Obviously, he's not Tom either.
elly_smiles 11-25-2006, 04:07 AM wow, how does anyone even think that nathan fillion looks anything like william mapother. i'm dissapointed.
lol, maybe its the nose????
:sawyer: :hurley:
LostFANatic91 11-25-2006, 04:10 AM I guess he does sort of resemble Ethan, but I'm a huge Firefly fan so I knew right away who it was.
CloudStrife 11-25-2006, 04:11 AM lol, maybe its the nose????
yeah, everyone that thought it was ethan in my family told me afterwards that it was because of the nose.
Retinend 11-25-2006, 04:29 PM I feel proud!
penyours 11-28-2006, 04:36 AM yeah he does resemble Ethan, but the fact that every other person knows him from Firefly pretty much shot down the chances of an Ethan in the FB thread.
aurorawest 11-28-2006, 10:12 AM Oh, I didn't think he was Ethan. I knew he looked familiar from something and I found out later it was because he was in the Firefly movie.

I'm proud of you guys.
I should start one just for you. If we do not question these things, then how do we begin to unravel all of the mysteries of the show? Perhaps a little less criticism for those are trying to find those hidden links would be nice considering that this is what the show is founded on. And for the record, I dont think we need your approval and congratulations of being proud of us. If you dont like the topic of the thread, something really cool and fun to do is just not read it. You might find that a pleasant alternative to berating those who are avid fans and just trying to have fun on here. Peace.
JeremyBender 11-29-2006, 02:19 PM Perhaps a little less criticism for those are trying to find those hidden links would be nice considering that this is what the show is founded on.Well, half the time I don't get a feeling of "hey, I found this connection, thought I'd share", more a "Look at ME! I'm the first one to be smart enough to see this" vibe.
And I can see why people are sick of this after 2+ years, the "Character X in a flashback is Character X from the Island" type nonsense. So often, they're not even close. Just because two dudes are white men who are tallish doesn't make them look anything alike. Just because two women are African-American, doesn't make them look anything alike. I mean, "Rose is Bea Klugh"? The person that posted that one deserved to be mocked.

Hey bro, Im all for ridiculing ignorant folks. However, I dont really think its necessary to start a thread congratulating everyone on not doing something. Furthermore, your reference to most of those types of threads being," Look at me I found it first," and how that frustrates you is a hypocracy in and of itself. Its the same narciscisstic attitude that presents itself when someone starts a thread stating how proud they are of everyone for not asking questions. But the key is this: how arrogant do you have to be to think that telling everyone you are proud of them will make a difference? Once again, I find it interesting that Americans will much rather exercise their right to bitch and moan about something they dont like, as opposed to just not reading it and therefore not wasting any enrgy to begin with.

If this thread stops one person --a single one-- from starting a "Hey! The checkout clerk that Desmond bought his coffee from in LTDA is in Otherville!" type thread, it will have served its purpose.

you're trying to read a little too much into this thread pal.
A lot of "hey, ______ from this epi is ______ from that other epi!!!" threads were popping up lately and I was surprised that no one started one for this. I got a little chuckle out of it and made a thread. Overthinking isn't always a good thing buddy.

There was one recently in the Ben section, claiming that Ben was on the beach just after Jack walked out of the jungle, helping Jack and John lift the piece of the plane that the guy with the mangled leg was trapped under. I mean.....come on.
At least they're not people who still cling on to the "They're in Purgatory" theory. :)
Shepherd 11-30-2006, 02:07 PM I'm such a nerd. I could tell it was Cap'n Mal from his voice through the door.
LOSTinmyownworld17 11-30-2006, 03:45 PM yeh there was a similarity there b/w ethan and kates first husband but not one to pull out a few more theories........
CAN'T WAIT TILL 2/07/07
Canand Cantdo 12-02-2006, 04:01 AM wow, how does anyone even think that nathan fillion looks anything like william mapother. i'm dissapointed.
Fortunately, just joining the Fuselage after watching Seasons One-and-Two in a five-day period, and the current Season Three a week later when there'll be no more new episodes etc, I have the priveledge of choosing which threads I open and have missed an apparently enormous amount of threads with people citing lookalikes.
I don't want to, y'know, start anew or anything or become a hypocrite - but the only connection I ever saw between different characters, and there was one, was incredibly strong and absolutely mind-blowing for me. I'm not one to see someone and say "HEY, WOW!," but I DID think that Ethan STRONGLY resembled the character that Sayid (towards the end of Season Two was it?) was friends with, the one who he convinced to go ahead with the suicide bombing. The guy that the American Feds were using Sayid to set up so that Sayid could go to America and be with his girl? THAT guy. Even though he was supposedly Arabic, he had what looked very similar to me as Ethan's trademark bulging eyes or menacing/kinda-psycho-but-i-was-born-this-way look to it.
Someone else said Nathan Fillion looked more like Kate's childhood friend whose airplane she had than anyone else, and I would probably agree with that. Oh, and I liked him in Firefly. =P
