Is any one kind of disappointed in what they've done with Hurley? I was really hoping for him to be a bigger part of the season, and quite frankly I was hoping to see him act differently knowing what he knows, losing Libby, and very nearly being kidnapped by the others.

Add on to that the whole "out of the loop" thing from last year, and now he's talking to John like he's just a scared kid when Locke asks for company going out to the Pearl. It's not as if Hurley hasn't been out in the jungle, wasn't there for the hatch opening, or when Artz got blown up. WTF?

If they aren't going to do anything interesting with Hurley after the S2 finale, and just continue to write him as the fat comic relief, personally, I think they are missing a huge opportunity for character growth and development.

I'm not saying he should suddenly become the guy who wants to do everything, but that doesn't mean he can't have conversations right? Don't you think everyone would want to know what happened on that damn dock?? Why he left with the group and came back with Desmond in Hurley shirt?

Again, I feel some nice scenes could have come out of those conversations.

That said, I know this seasons reruns will have:
extended scenes and new footage

So maybe, just maybe I will get what I'm lookin' for. :)

I'd also like to throw in I enjoyed the mini season in lots of ways, just felt like they forgot Hurley :(

It's only been six episodes. Besides Hurley has never wanted to go on hikes. But other people want him to be there- like Micheal. He is obvioulsy crushed after he lost Libby. He just got back from a trek that went horribly wrong. He's not about to go right back out again on the next mission. He IS terrified. The others just kidnapped his friends and indirectly killed his girlfriend.

And the people that did go on the hike this time (with the exption of sayid) didn't go last time.

I'm sure Hurley will get his episode soon and it will be amazing. But right now he doesn't fit in the story line of The Captured and The Rescuers. His time for development will come and I am so excited for it!

Well, that's what I mean about growth, and development. Hurley has been through a lot, and seen a lot that would change a person, make a person think, make a person ACT. Even a terriffied coward would atleast talk to someone about these things. And losing Libby hasn't ben dealt with really, and that's what I'm saying, they've let him drop off the radar a bit.

Last season he was basically telling Jack he doesn't want to be out of the loop. This is the guy who outted Ethan Rom, and went looking for Danielle alone. He has the potential for more than a background player, don't ya think?

But that is also another interesting point. Why do we have to wait for "his episode" to have him doing something interesting?

I'm not saying he has to go out on missions, but that doesn't mean he couldn't take a more active role in conversations beach side.

I agree. They can do it with Charlie, why not Hurley and other characters? I guess that would take a little more effort in the writing...

I totally agree. Hurley is a great character, wonderfully played by Jorge Garcia, that has a great potential for the story. I think his link with Libby in the hospital hide an interesting mystery that will have to be developped, I hope this season.

I think the pivital parties of Season 3 were seen in Locke's vision. Hurley was there playing an employee (as was Des and Ben). I think the grouping withing the vision were big as well.

Therefore, IMHO, Hurley will be a pivital part of S3 as a whole eventhough he was not a big part of the mini (although we have seen parts that might be used later).

I think the producers said that episode 10 would be a Hurley ep., so we should see more of his character development then.

I don't think enough Island time has passed for Hurley to feel comfortable enough about anything right now, he's seen Jack, Sawyer and Kate ambushed in the jungle (thanks ti Michael) and then told to return to the rest of the Lostaways with a message. Plus, it's only been a few days (Island time) since he burried Libby so his head's really not into the game.

Hurley sitting around feeling like crap doesn't make for interesting television.

Hey, Hurley is a central character and I don't see that changing quite yet. I expect some good stuff from him this season.

Episode 10 is a hurley episode and is apparently titled

Tricia Tanaka is Dead

I just read that they cast

Cheech Marin as Hurley's dad

Now that I can't wait to see...

Found that at http://www.tvguide.com/News-Views/Columnists/Ask-Ausiello/default.aspx?columndate=22-Nov-2006

We've mainly seen the others' island this mini-season so maybe more of the lostee's island and it's characters will be dealt with in february, including Hurley.

not sure if everyone here has seen episode 4 so I used spoiler tags

I think that Hurley has a part that is a bit bigger thats yet to come.

we know that Hurley knows Libby from the Mental Ward

I think from seeing what we have of Hurley there is still a lot untold and his part hasn't flourished yet.

he should have more to say when they return. he is still alive and should be a resource in finding the...other island. that is if jack doesnt make it back first.

It's been 6 episodes and they centered on Jack, Kate, Sawyer and the others.

Hurley and the rest of the Losties will have their moments in the coming episodes.
