It should also act as a bridge for people who tune in at 9 expecting a new show only to find they have to wait another hour. That way the shift isn't so abrupt. As usual with these recaps, it'll be fun parsing out exactly what TPTB decide to leave in and what to leave out.

Yes this was a good move by ABC to catch fans who routinely tune in at 9pm and direct them towards the new timeslot. I wonder who will narrate?

Good call, Crimson! Wonder when ABC had that attack of common sense! :D

So--an hour-long "Previously, on LOST" an hour before Eppy 7 starts. Got it.

Hope there's lots of Desmond and Skate and Ben/Juliet/Jack in it! (Uh--wait a minute. That's about all there CAN be, isn't it? Except for some Locke & Eko. Never mind! ;))

Nah, Remus, it's great that it's at 9pm, as other have said, to bridge the gap from the 9pm to the 10pm time-slot.

I'm excited. I hope Elizabeth Mitchell narrates it. It was so great when Michael Emerson did.

And, of course, if I get to be the one to do it again (I've done it twice so far), I'll be starting a thread about what we think TPTB want us to figure out from the narration and the choice of scenes.

V.v. good point with the timeslot transition. Hoping everyone sticks around. Is there an AI audition episode on against it, though?

lol. again, they aren't so much for the kind of fan that hangs out at the Fuse, I don't think -- WE don't really need to be caught up. It could be good to get the more casual fan back into the show, though.

According to deej240z at lost-media (http://www.lost-media.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=2277) the show is now titled "Lost Survivor Guide".

I guess the "guide" part is a signal that it's the jump on point for potential new viewers. I'm thinking it may not be structured as a traditional recap show, with clips and narration, but maybe video packages: "These are the Others", "This is Kate, Jack and Sawyer", etc.

And, yes, I would love it if Elizabeth did the narration, too.

Hmm.... something makes me think it was the Lost Survival Guide. But maybe I'm wrong.
Either way, they have to add in the new stuff from S3.
But it's common for recap type shows to reuse format/narration. At least with Grey's, you can see three recaps and the first half of all of them will be the same.

penyours
01-20-2007, 09:04 PM
Just checked, it was 'lost a tale of survival', perhaps to lead into the title 'a tale of two cities'

Didn't know Grey's had recap epi's.

LostLaura
01-20-2007, 09:07 PM
Oh, right.

I don't know if they do anymore, but they did last year. One was narrated by the bartender. Joe, I think is his name. Similiar style to Lost's recaps. It's definitely a new method that ABC is using on their hit shows, to get new viewers and catch people up. Pretty sure they do it for DH, too. Narrated by the woman who killed herself.

Here's the official ABC description of this. Darlton is hosting!!!

ABC once again invites new and avid Lost viewers to take another look at one of the most talked about and critically acclaimed shows. Lost Survivor Guide will explore the series in a way that will bring new viewers up to date -- but which current viewers will also find illuminating in anticipation of the return of the second act of the series third season. From the back stories of some of the most interesting characters on television to the mysteries of the island, Lost Survivor Guide will provide an insightful glimpse into the lives of some of the survivors of the doomed Oceanic Airlines flight 815. Hosted by Lost executive producers Damon Lindelof (also a co-creator of the show) and Carlton Cuse, the special will be told in a linear fashion, culminating from pieces of the back stories revealed over multiple episodes in the series, Lost Survivor Guide focuses on the flashbacks of a core of characters -- illustrating who they were and what they were doing before the crash, and how the island has changed their lives, for better or worse. In addition, the island itself will be explored culled from events that have taken place which may reveal some of its secrets that might have been missed upon first viewing.

I don't mean to sound cynical but let me guess--Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Locke? Oh, and Desmond if we're lucky. That may just make it worth my while, but barely. :undecide: I hope to be proven wrong.

LostLaura
01-23-2007, 12:19 AM
Well, I'm sure that any FB information or heavy focus on characters will be those who will be figuring in heavily to ep 3x07. That will be:
Jack, Sawyer, Kate, Ben, Juliet and maybe Alex.
Interesting that Darlton are going to host. That's a bit unexpected and should be interesting. It sounds like it'll be pretty different than a typical narration. I'm sure we'll actually see DL and CC talking, not just voiceovers (like we had with Michael Emerson.) Otherwise a random viewer would be like "who are these two voices? Beavis and Butthead?"

This sounds a lot like the other recap show that Darlton did...was it called "Lost Survival Guide" (or something like that)? I know this one will be new, though (I think). But note that they are apparently using only footage already aired. So it sounds like a podcast with footage (LOL).

Interesting... if this works, maybe they could run stuff like it during the potential May to January '08 hiatus to keep people occupied.

I think Darlton also wants everyone on the same page not only in terms of plot but what certain plot elements are supposed to mean so when the brain frying moment goes down later this scene we'll be able to survive.

And this is just speculation, but I wonder if...

perhaps the brain frying moment is going to be off Island and Penny discovering Damon and Carlton filming a TV show called LOST. Heh.

I think their hostng will be more like the way they do the bonus features on the DVDs than like the podcast.

In the middle of watching it. What a great guide to the show. Damon and Carlton really are acting as tour guides for newbies and for the hardcores, too. They're comments are more about interpreting the show than recapping the plot. Won't say anymore... definitely must see tv.

LostLaura
02-06-2007, 11:31 PM
Yeah, I think it's really well done.
Nothing spoilery, anyone can watch it even if they haven't read any spoilers or seen any previews for the rest of the season.
I would hate to be a newbie coming to this show, though. Not because they don't make the storyline clear. They do a really good job of that. But because so many surprises from S1&S2 (like that Locke was in a wheelchair and that Desmond is in the hatch) are revealed in the course of a 1 second, vs. over a whole episode or a whole season. heh. But it's a well put-together clip show. I enjoyed it.

LostLaura
02-06-2007, 11:51 PM
I think they are just trying to be aware of how important the internet is to the show, and tv in general nowadays. If they give people a chance to watch it online the day before, rather than compete with AI at 9pm tomorrow, then they might get some new viewers at 10pm.

Save The Humans
02-07-2007, 01:56 AM
And from what I've read at other sites, a lot of LOST fans are NOT gonna be watching the recrap. They'll watch AI, then switch to ABC and watch the LOST eppy. They may have done this simply to give these viewers the chance to see the recrap show and still see AI.

Seems like network TV in general has just bowed at the feet of AI, vowing to let them have their hour on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The competition has given up. And given the juggernaut AI is, that's the wisest strategy. Why waste money or time trying to beat what cannot be beaten?

I'm glad LOST has dodged the bullet!

Oh it's not random at all, Kyle Mclachlan was the star of the best serialised tv show before Lost, "Twin Peaks" TPTB have paid quite a lot of hommage to Twin Peaks and have also learned from that show's mistakes.

He's quite interesting on Desperate Housewives, too.

Oh yeah I love his character on Desperate Housewives, it's one of the main reasons I'm interested in that show again!

You were probably just a bit too young to watch Twin Peaks, I think I was only about 10 when it aired. But if you ever want to see another Lost-like show give it a try, it's more abstract and a bit more scary then Lost, but you can definitely see how Twin Peaks paved the road for Lost.
