QuinceTheCarpenter 11-28-2006, 07:44 PM Mini-podcasts during the break?
Please point me to the correct area if this information is posted elsewhere on this site or on abc.com
My understanding going into Season 3 was that they were going to "fill in" the break with downloadable mini-episode / podcasts (something about hurley going around with a video camera interviewing other Losties .. didn't they show a preview of one of these at Comic-con in San Diego?) ... and that these would be available online.
Can someone provide and update / schedule / pointer?
Thanks.
EDIT: I see a little commentary here http://www.thefuselage.com/Threaded/showthread.php?t=64023 where Gregg Nations says in early November that they are working through the permissions to allow downloading content via cell phone carrier.
I hope they just put them on the podcast page on abc.com
Jezz1226 11-28-2006, 08:07 PM I think what your thinking about are the mobisodes, the mini scenes that were supposed to be released on cell phones. A thread with some more info about is here http://www.thefuselage.com/Threaded/showthread.php?t=64057&highlight=mobisodes
The latest I've heard about them is from Kristen's E! chat which said:
Over the summer ,Carlton Cuse said, 'Our goal is to try to get [the mobisodes] done so that they will fall in the period between our two pods of new episodes.' That time is now, but ABC tells me they haven't announced a premiere date, so I'm guessing we won't see them this winter."
carfreak2128 11-28-2006, 08:11 PM Yeah thats what I heard too. Mobisodes. Brilliant. But they should release some regular podcasts too. We need a rehashing of I Do. And what can I say, I miss the guys!

It's probably a logistics/legal thing, not a production problem. If so, they should just post the 'mobisodes' online and forget the cell phones, maybe try that again another time.

Thing is its supposed to be a partnership with Verizon's V-Cast service, so it's definitely going to premere on cell phones first. They're trying to find another revenus stream through cell phones and don't want to blow it. It's my understanding they would available for download by the general public a week later.
Since they only came to an agreement with the Actors' Guild so late (I believe in May or June) in the process they might only now be producing the things.
Just to recap, the clip they showed at San Diego Comic-Con had Kate and Sawyer sitting by a fire... Hurley told them he found a video camera in the jungle and that it has some already filmed footage on it... Sawyer dares Hurley to view it (as we see Hurley from the POV of the camera) and Hurley reluctantly says he will... smash to black and "The Lost Diaries" logo floats in.
Starrox 01-18-2007, 06:52 PM According to this article in Variety (http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117957624.html), it seems they finally solved all problems in connection with the mobisodes and production can begin!
At the TV panel, "Lost" executive producer Carlton Cuse announced plans to start production on Webisodes and phonisodes of his hit series starting in July. The character-based stories will likely be more intimate and self-contained. They will feature the "Lost" cast and run two-three minutes.
I wonder if they will still use the "Hurley finds videocamera"-approach...
pacejunkie 01-18-2007, 07:08 PM I hope some kind person uploads them to YouTube. They sound like fun.
jennylee27 01-18-2007, 08:28 PM Yay! Thanks for the update Starrox. I had lost hope for these!
penyours 01-18-2007, 09:16 PM I hope some kind person uploads them to YouTube. They sound like fun.
I think someone said they were going to officially post them on a website for everyone a week after it's released on cell phones. Is this correct?
Dan23X 01-18-2007, 10:08 PM I thought they were supposed to be released over the 13 week break?
jennylee27 01-18-2007, 10:32 PM Dan, there was a delay based on the actors' contracts. You can probably up old information on it on this site.
CrimsonRabbit 01-20-2007, 02:22 AM Carlton saying, "it's a favor to the fans" sort of hints that they KNOW they need something to fill the summer (and possibly summer & fall) hiatus. Where's my video game?
If production starts In July however I wonder how quickly they can be completed. Will they even start running in August or September? They are just two to three minutes.
Also, I don't know if the mobisodes are supposed to be just Hurley with the cam. At the teaser they played at Comic-Con 2006 Hurley said there was a tape already loaded into the camera he found in the jungle that looked like it had been recorded on. It could be that some mysterious person (Jacob?) was observing the Losties with the camera and we're going to see random moments from throughout the series. I can't see how the mobisodes can fit in with the show's continuity if it's entirely new stuff.
penyours 01-20-2007, 02:26 AM I think they could pump out mobisodes really quickly, if it's justsupposed to be from the view of a handheld camera the editing will be minimal and it doesn't need to look too professional and slick. two minutes would be one scene maybe two at the most.
TheHade 01-20-2007, 09:10 AM I'm looking forward to them as well! One cannot ever have enough of "Lost", can one?! ;)
Remus Lupin 01-20-2007, 05:12 PM Ooh, this sounds good. But they're gonna need to do a LOT of mobisodes if they intend to fill the break with them if they are going to do the 24 approach with a consecutive run of episodes and start the season in January.
penyours 01-20-2007, 05:15 PM It would be great if the camera originally belonged to gary troup and the footage at the very beginning of the tape revealed something about him or his relationship with Cindy. Or perhaps some footage from the airport before they boarded the plane,
LightMeDark 01-20-2007, 06:12 PM His relationship with Cindy? I'm probably missing something obvious, but I don't remember ever hearing about that. Where was this pointed out?
Thanks :)
penyours 01-20-2007, 06:22 PM Seems like this flew under the radar for many people. It was mentioned when the Book Bad Twin came out. Gary Troup said Cindy was his partner.
LostLaura 01-20-2007, 08:21 PM This is good news for the (possibly very long) hiatus. Thanks for the news.
LightMeDark 01-20-2007, 09:45 PM Seems like this flew under the radar for many people. It was mentioned when the Book Bad Twin came out. Gary Troup said Cindy was his partner.
Ah, I wasn't around then, and I haven't read that book. Thanks for bringing me up to speed :)
Remus Lupin 06-14-2007, 08:47 AM Looks like these mobisodes are gonna happen!
While "Lost" viewers will have to wait till next year to see the next TV episodes, Cuse and Lindelof said in the fall there will be a series of "Lost" mobisodes featuring the entire cast and rolling out first on Verizon Wireless and then probably appearing on ABC.com. They said they're keenly aware of the eight-month gap between last month's finale and the return of "Lost" at the beginning of next year.

Paul Artisan 06-19-2007, 06:02 PM Can't wait!
toknowhim 06-21-2007, 08:40 AM I'm so glad they are going to put them on abc.com! I can't wait :lost:
TheHade 06-21-2007, 08:44 AM I hope this really will happen. The article only said:
then probably appearing on ABC.comConsidering how late the season three DVD set will be released this year they should add it to the bonus features there!
Remus Lupin 06-21-2007, 11:03 AM I'm sure some nice person will get them available for download or on YouTube after they're released by Verizon.
TheHade 06-21-2007, 02:00 PM I'm sure some nice person will get them available for download or on YouTube after they're released by Verizon.
Yeah, and they probably will be taken down just as fast due to terms of use violation ...

But still I'd like to have them on DVD the way it's done with "24" as I'm told (Does anybody happen to know if they're featured in a higher resolution there?).

GreatHeights 08-29-2007, 02:45 PM Has there been any update on the Mobisodes, like when they are going to start releasing them?
Man, this break sucks. I don't know if I can handle it for another two years. Part of me wishes that they'd just forgo the whole traditional TV season system and pack all three of the last seasons into two years. You know, start So4 in February, So5 in Sept, So6 in Jan or Feb 2009.
(4.8.15.16.23.42) 08-29-2007, 02:54 PM Yeah,I agree with you. Hit us with them all at once and then we can work with them. These breaks are going to be tortuous...especially since we are only getting 16 episodes...
Oh, and I haven't heard anything about the Mobisodes. I'm assuming they will start coming out in September, when the Fall season starts?
Charmedfreak 08-29-2007, 11:43 PM I assume they will come out in September/October. I'm assuming they are airing just like the Lost Moments in season 3. Wednesdays every week until season 4 starts right.

I'll push to the front here just to point out this excellent summary at Lostpedia (http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/Mobisodes) for you!
~Lirpa~ 08-30-2007, 08:25 AM So, they were mobisodes just like what we are talking about here? And according to LOSTpedia, they never aired...
TheHade 08-31-2007, 06:07 AM So, they were mobisodes just like what we are talking about here?
Yep.
And according to LOSTpedia, they never aired...
Unfortunately, not ... at least not, yet!
Here's hoping TPTB will get it done in the near future now that they have to churn out "only" shortened seasons!
~Lirpa~ 08-31-2007, 12:27 PM I hoe so, too, Hade!
Ok with not knowing everything 09-01-2007, 04:30 AM Hold on, Lost Moments (http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/Lost_Moments) were just special previews that ABC aired during the mid season 3 break. They weren't different and separate content from the show (like mobisodes), they were just snippets from future episodes. The link TheHade provided was for mobisodes.
~Lirpa~ 09-01-2007, 08:41 AM Oh! I think I remember those. They were previews for S3!

You're absolutely right, of course ... I'm sorry I paid more attention to the topic of this thread than to Lirpa's question (http://www.thefuselage.com/Threaded/showpost.php?p=1642592&postcount=35)! I'll have a closer look next time. Peace!
~Lirpa~ 09-01-2007, 09:29 AM *Feels neglected.* ;) Just kidding, Hade! Let's hope they do release the mobisodes. I keep seeing ads for the upcoming fall shows and really miss seeing them for LOST. I wonder when we'll see LOST moments again.
TheHade 09-01-2007, 10:27 AM *Feels neglected.*
:shock1:
I'm very sorry: Please accept my apology!
;) Just kidding, Hade!
Phew, I'm very relieved about this!
Let's hope they do release the mobisodes.
Yes, I hope so, too - especially considering all the lengths TPTB already went to in order to secure appearances by the original cast in these mobisodes!
I keep seeing ads for the upcoming fall shows and really miss seeing them for LOST.
Yes, I know exactly what you mean: It makes me realize even more clearly how much I miss the show ... It's like everybody gets their regular present except for us "Lost"-fans ... :unhappy:
I wonder when we'll see LOST moments again.
I wasn't too keen on that format to tell you the truth - especially when I realized that some of these "'Lost' Moments" turned out to be deleted scenes. How confusing!
I don't know, maybe traditional trailers work better?
~Lirpa~ 09-01-2007, 06:35 PM They were deleted scenes? I don't even remember. That's sorta messed up.
Sam G 09-02-2007, 11:22 PM They would show then on "Good Morning America"
lostnthesoutheast 09-02-2007, 11:37 PM They were deleted scenes? I don't even remember. That's sorta messed up.
I remember the Lost Moment with Jack and Tom in the operating room was a deleted scene. And so was one where Locke and Hurley were chatting about Desmond's super powers while Locke was spear fishing. Were there any others that turned out to be deleted scenes?
TheHade 09-03-2007, 05:09 AM They would show then on "Good Morning America"
Didn't they only show them after Day Break (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Day_Break) and later "Greys Anatomy"?
I only remember a few deleted scenes being shown on "Good Morning America" during seasons one and two.
Were there any others that turned out to be deleted scenes?
According to Lostpedia (http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/Lost_Moments) these were the only ones.
~Lirpa~ 09-03-2007, 07:03 AM Come to think of it, I never did see those. But I remember the big fuss amongst Locke fans that they didn't actually show the scene during LOST of Locke fishing.
Sam G 09-03-2007, 10:36 AM It's so confusing where they show up. Because sometimes they will tease things on Good Morning America so you'll remember to watch for the LOST Moments.
Ok with not knowing everything 09-11-2007, 01:27 AM Sooo, we should be expecting to hear something about these mobisodes pretty soon, I would think. Fall season is here, and all.
lostnthesoutheast 09-11-2007, 01:32 AM I've been wondering the same thing! But maybe they will hold out for sweeps season. When does that start next, October? November?
Ok with not knowing everything 09-11-2007, 01:46 AM I've been wondering the same thing! But maybe they will hold out for sweeps season. When does that start next, October? November?
Is there a sweeps season for cellphones? ;)
lostnthesoutheast 09-11-2007, 01:55 AM Aren't they also going to air on ABC? I don't know why, but I was thinking that they would play like the Lost Moments from last spring. Wishful thinking, I guess!
Ok with not knowing everything 09-11-2007, 02:13 AM I think the idea is that they will be available first on Verizon Wireless cellphones, and then possibly the ABC website. But they won't be on television. Apparently ABC/Touchstone are not involved in the production. Damon and Carlton talk a little about it in this article. (I wasn't meaning to be flippant in that previous post, I just thought it was a funny retort. :))
lostnthesoutheast 09-11-2007, 08:06 AM Thanks for the link. I read that a while back, but had forgotten the details. Don't worry about being flippant, I am still recovering from a bad migraine that I had over the weekend and my brain isn't functioning at 100% yet. I am still not able to think very hard about anything, so I feel a little out of it. And oddball comments deserve flippant responses. No skin off my back. I should know better than to type without thinking things through first.

I hope viewers outside the U.S. will be able to see them. Or that someone will post them to Youtube since it's highly unlikely we (who are outside the U.S.) will be able to view them on ABC.com.
I'm in "Lost" withdrawal. Waiting til the new year sucks. Oh well, I know my husband will buy me the 3rd season DVD's for Christmas.

Charmedfreak 09-21-2007, 08:27 PM Same here, they should be bringing them out like now. Unless they plan on bringing them out November, for the last 3 months leading to season 4.
Anyone heard news?
Jack Sawyer 09-25-2007, 05:33 PM Hmmm, just came back here wondering the same thing. I'll check back later I guess. :)

"Lindelof sez they're also excited about an upcoming series of exclusive original "Lost" shorts coming to mobile platforms through ABC's deal with Verizon (I'm guessing they'll also wind up on ABC.com and/or iTunes at some point) and will be rolled out in a serialized fashion as part of the build up to the season four premiere. The shorts, featuring regular "Lost" players and produced under WGA, DGA and SAG auspices, will provide fans with a glimpse of "some really interesting 'Lost' puzzle pieces," Lindelof promises."
Jynes 10-13-2007, 03:20 AM I was looking at my calender and realized that there are only 3.5 moths left to february but there are supposed to be 13 mobisodes. Just so you're aware, (if they happen) they won't be on television, they will be available on Verizon Wireless cellphones. They probably will show up somewhere like youtube though. Also, I hadn't heard that there is a definite number of mobisodes planned, like 13. You could be thinking of the 13 "Lost Moments" from last year's mid-season break.
Anyway, I wonder if they've been filming them this fall, and if so, if they've managed to get them done before the looming strike.

I am not sure what I watched but it was cool and it was called Lost: Missing Pieces...never saw or heards of it before...but there it was to watch on my phone...about 2:45
cheers
Haven't heard of Missing Pieces. Was it the scene from "Do No Harm" by the pool? If it was, then it's not the Mobisodes; the Mobisodes will be new content.
Here's a bit from a new interview (http://www.starpulse.com/news/index.php/2007/11/05/the_writer_s_strike_from_an_actor_s_pers) with Michael Emerson about the writers' strike, regarding the Mobisodes:
Those who are really eager for the new season can expect to see mobisodes, or mobile phone episodes, in the near future. In the 13 weeks leading up to the premiere the network will release a mobisode a week, "which are sort of like lost scenes," explained Emerson. They are about two or three minutes long, and you can download them on phones and ABC.com.
Ok with not knowing everything 11-05-2007, 08:46 PM It started with Jack throwing stones into the ocean and then Cristian shows up and gives him his grandfather's watch. They basically talk about marriage and being a father.
I have never seen it before and have to idea where it would fit into an episode even as a deleted scene.
cheers
Hmmm! :eek2:
Sam G 11-05-2007, 08:51 PM It certainly sounds new to me. Other people, man your cell phones.
Sam G 11-05-2007, 08:56 PM Well, from what Michael Emerson says, there's 13 weeks this would be the right time to start, it's just about 13 weeks before the beginning of February.
briar910 11-05-2007, 08:58 PM How do you watch these things on your phone?
Ok with not knowing everything 11-05-2007, 09:47 PM *considers getting a Verizon phone*
So, I know that ABC and Touchstone reached an agreement in 2006 with SAG and WGA regarding the production, release, and payment for mobisodes. But I wonder if that agreement was only for distribution on cellphones; I wonder if having them available for download on abc.com is a point of contention in the current writers' strike.

Well first you have to have Verizon service, and then you access V-Cast Video...from there you go to the TV & Film Menu...then you go to the ABC Entertainment Menu...then you scroll down until you find the video labeled Lost.
It is 2 minutes and 42 seconds long.
I'm editing my thesis tonight...but if I find the time I'll transcribe it at work tomorrow.
cheers
Jynes 11-06-2007, 04:32 AM OMG!!! I'm so excited. Finally some new LOST content. Hopefully darkufo will do some detective work and get it on his website soon!!
Charmedfreak 11-06-2007, 09:28 AM Viewing on phones is good, but doesn't do any good for people who dont have phones or are overseas. I hope we can download them, but I bet it will end up on youtube anyway.
Sam G 11-06-2007, 10:31 AM Didn't Michael Emerson also say it would be on the ABC site? It would be later but still for us to view. Someone will get it to youtube or Darkufo will get it.
Charmedfreak 11-06-2007, 11:38 AM I think I remember he said that. Not sure.
I'll just wait for Youtube or Dark UFO. So I'll still be able to see them.
Carencey 11-06-2007, 02:35 PM Karri is working on a better place for you guys to discuss these--not sure where it will be quite yet, but keep your eyes open.
Sam G 11-06-2007, 08:59 PM Watch out Network TV (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20071106/media_nm/screenwriters_quarterlife_dc_3) this is the future.
jennylee27 11-06-2007, 09:38 PM As far as I kow there was no press release, e.g., to announce and promote this. How come?
Yeah, that is totally bizarre. I just double checked on ABC Medianet. Nice to see a new scene though, but I was sorta hoping for new new.
jbdean 11-07-2007, 12:41 PM It wasn't a deleted scene read below.
You can get them on ABC's website starting Monday 11/12. http://abc.go.com/primetime/lost/index?pn=missingpieces
Lost: Missing Pieces are 13 two-to three-minute stories of compelling, new, never-before-seen moments from LOST. These newly-created scenes (not deleted scenes from previous episodes) reveal answers and new details about your favorite characters. For each story, we leave it up to the you, the fans, to figure out where these pieces fit into the overall mythology. Watch new episodes on ABC.comThat is good news but what about this: "Verizon pays ABC $400,000 for 13 "Lost" mobisodes; writers get $800/show (http://www.mobiletelevisionreport.com/2006/10/verizon_pays_ab.html)" (see pg 3 on the referenced article in this article). Isn't Verizon supposed to air them? I have Verizon and it's not on it. Maybe it will be offered on the same day as it's on ABC.com? But that kind of sounds like a waste for it to be online while it's on the phones.

I think it's great that our Lost folks (and I have to give Touchstone some credit too) were the first to make sure the guilds were granted jurisdiction over new media.
Didn't the first people to see it say that they did see it on VCast? I don't have Verizon, so I don't know whether there is another subscription required or what. I do recall that when the Lost mobile game came out on Cingular's network, even though I had the media subscription, I STILL was not able to get the game because it wasn't compatible with my six month old G3 capable phone.
Sam G 11-07-2007, 01:35 PM Someone got them early. They are suppoed to become availabe 11/12/07.

I am puzzled, to say the least.
I did get the Lost game when I switched to Verizon. I had Cingular (AT&T) and never saw it offered ... but it might have been my old phone. I now have the newest Razr. The game is fun.
Someone got them early. They are suppoed to become availabe 11/12/07.Maybe that's why I can't find it advertised anywhere. I sure hope I don't miss it. I'll probably do the same thing as that person did just so I can keep them for review.
Xavier 11-12-2007, 09:35 PM Hate to break up the discussion, but do these things come out weekly?
Ok with not knowing everything 11-12-2007, 09:39 PM Hate to break up the discussion, but do these things come out weekly?
Yes, there are 13 of them; so one per week will take it right up to the season premiere in Feb.
Carencey 11-13-2007, 12:42 AM Hi guys! since it doesn't look like the new section is quite ready yet, go ahead and continue discussing Missing Pieces #1 here, and I'll move the posts to the new section as soon as it's set up. :)
