Interesting idea, Dmcquickly. "Karl" could also be a reference to Karl Popper, who was influenced by Edmund Burke (interestingly, the name of Juliet's ex-husband). Some of the works Popper wrote have titles such as, Of Clocks and Clouds, and All Life Is Problem Solving (both of which can be loosely related to the brainwashing video). Additionally, his thinking included a pluralist cosmology -- three worlds: realms of 1) the physical (living and non-living), 2) the mental / psychological (feelings, pain, pleasure, perceptions, decisions, suffering), and 3) products of the human mind (languages, tales, stories, myths, music and the arts, and religion).
