View Full Version : Why'd Juliet decide to go with Mittelos?

Anyone else wondering what changed between the last flashback we saw Juliette in, and when she shows up in Season 3?

Did they threaten her or her sister to get her to join the cause?

It really sounds like she was almost being held prisoner (especially with her last line to Jack). Why would she play along with the "others" goals and research?

Maybe she signed up, and then it all gradually changed into something a little more evil?

I dunno... thoughts?

i think that she is like jack. all this time she has been held aganist her will doing what dharma wants. if she went willingly, i don't think that she would know exactly how long she has been there. someone being held prisoner with something on the outside that they are trying to get back to, they would be making tallys or something to that effect.

I'm thinking more along the lines of "wow, Edmund really was hit by a bus, and wow, they knew Rachel was pregnant, and wow, I may have an offer I can't refuse . . . "

IMO, Juliet finally joined Mittelos Biosciences (or whoever they really were) because the two primary obstacles that were preventing her (Edmund Burke & her sister's health) were removed. At that point she had no real reason to say no.

I think she was abducted on the spot, a one-way ticket from the morgue to the island.

Agreed. They offered her unlimited resources to do her research. With Edmund out of the way, what possible reason could she have for turning them down? Her work is obviously very important to her.

I'm sort of leaning that direction too, but then when we first met her, she seems sort of on board with whatever it is that the others want to do. I figured she'd be more on the Alex/Karl side of viewing things. Or maybe she just realized this is her best chance at surviving or getting off the island.

Maybe this has already been stated, but "Mittelos" is an anagram for "Lost Time." Coincidence? Methinks not...

Would you say no to Ethan or Dr. Alpert? Seriously, what are the odds of dying by being hit by a bus (despite the numerous times it happens in movies)? The look on Juliet's face when she connected her words to Dr. Alpert on his recruiting trip and the actual random bus death of her ex-husband was that of pure terror. It hadn't occured to me that maybe she was "encouraged" to come with our Mittelos scientists, directly from the morgue, but I can see that happening. Ethan was a bit shifty and nervous.

Even before the bus "accident" she was an emotional wreck to begin with. Now she is looking at her dead husband, my guess is that she wasnt able to really put up much of a front. If she went willingly, and methinks she did, I doubt that she really had the capacity to completley understand that she was being manipulated. And even if she did understand that I am sure she was incapable of putting up much of a defense...

It should also be noted that her sister was clearly encouraging her to take the job.

The reason is she wasn't blaming herself for the bus thing. She was blaming the two creepy men looming over her. And they knew about her sister, and that she was pregnant. If I were in that position, I'd be thinking "Damn, this is mafia shit I'm dealing with. If I say no, who's to say they won't kill me, too?"

Is that a good reason for ya?

I don't think Juliet "decided" to go. I think she had no choice. I just want to know if Mittelos is a branch of Dharma. That whole encounter with Ethan really spooked me.

What if they conned her so to speak.

Ben told Jack that he had an elaborate plan to make Jack to want to do the surgery, but he ran out of time when Jack saw the x-ray, right. Well, what if Mittelose somehow made her want to go there and be a part of their great team and be home in 6 months for the birth of her sister's baby. Maybe she'd find a cure to infietility, or aging or whatever...

It's a lot easier to get good quality work out of somebody if they're doing the work willingly. Mittelose seems like they'd be pretty good at the art of persuasion.

I think Juliet went to the Island willingly, but was lied to as to the time she was expected to be there. TPTB clearly had no intention of letting her go after six months.

My thoughts EXACTLY. The obvious impression was that if she wanted to stay alive, she should take the job.
