View Full Version : Wookie Prisoner
rulostrmi 02-08-2007, 11:22 AM First of all, I'm SO GLAD Lost is back. Last night's episode had so much content.. it's still sinking in.
On a lighter note... I loved some of the lines from last night.
Of course.... Tom's "I'm Tom, by the way." Awkward, but endearing.
Sawyer's many names for Alex... within the first 5 minutes of meeting her he calls her "Sheena", "Underdog", and "Lollipop". I love Sawyer.
I also LOVED the Star Wars reference "I can't believe he fell for the old Wookie Prisoner trick." LOL
Anyone else have favorite lines/moments from this eppy?
carodeluxe 02-08-2007, 11:25 AM Best. Line. Ever. (The "Wookie prisoner" thing, that is.) Sawyer is such a nerd! Also could be a nod to how his character was influenced by Harrison Ford's portrayal of Han Solo in the original Star Wars trilogy.
I love Tom, by the way! I thought it was hilarious how they clearly drew parallels between Hurley's "I'm not so good with blood" scene and Tom's queasiness around the operating table.
misti_is_lost 02-08-2007, 11:34 AM I totally agree that this is the BEST line yet!!!!! I was in tears, laughing at it!!!!! SAWYER IS THE BEST!!!!
QueenElessar 02-08-2007, 11:37 AM They writers and Josh have always kind of said that Sawyer thay they envisioned Sawyer as a Han Solo type character...so it makes sense that he's referred to Star Wars several times. I thought this was the best reference though...
He has called Jin Chewy a whole bunch of times because she doesn't understand him...and he referred to Michael and Jin as "Han and Chewie" when he was watching them build the boat.
danmo 02-08-2007, 11:37 AM sawyer is han solo. first calling hurley "jabba" and then the wookie prisoner trick, all solo doings. i love it that nerds rule everything now.
misti_is_lost 02-08-2007, 11:41 AM sawyer is han solo. first calling hurley "jabba" and then the wookie prisoner trick, all solo doings. i love it that nerds rule everything now.
AMEN!!!!!! Gotta luv that!
rulostrmi 02-08-2007, 12:01 PM I think even Carlton and Damon have said Sawyer's like Han, and Jack Sparrow, etc. Despicable, but funny and loveable.
Also, liked how Alex gave it right back to him when he was picking on her... she's got some wit...
I found myself (and maybe it's the withdrawl factor) saying to myself (and out loud) I love these characters.
Burnt Sienna 02-08-2007, 12:11 PM I'm still waiting for Sawyer to say, "I've got a bad feeling about this" or "Hey, It's me!"
Then the circle would be complete.
mikey_mike 02-08-2007, 12:34 PM Or perhaps Kate will whisper "I love you" to Sawyer after he is captured and about to be frozen in carbonite. And Saywer will calmly reply..."I know". Now that would complete the circle. :)
rulostrmi 02-08-2007, 12:46 PM Or perhaps Kate will whisper "I love you" to Sawyer after he is captured and about to be frozen in carbonite. And Saywer will calmly reply..."I know". Now that would complete the circle. :)
Oh... now THAT would ROCK!!! (I'm such a Star Wars geek.) :)

LOL, and it would be perfectly in character for them to say those lines (though I'm not sure where there is carbonite on the island...). And since Kate didn't tell Sawyer she loved him in I Do, she still needs to tell him.
Dezdmona 02-08-2007, 01:45 PM "Lost in Star Wars" (http://starwars.com/community/news/rocks/f20060505/indexp2.html) - J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof discuss their love of Star Wars and references to SW they have put in the show.
This article was last May...have a new update. :chewie2:
rulostrmi 02-08-2007, 01:59 PM Thanks for the link, Dezdmona. :) I had read similar stuff about the writers influences... It's so interesting and fun to draw the parallels between characters in Lost and those of Star Wars. I'm sure it's been done SOMEWHERE on the net... I just haven't done a search, but I've theorized about the similarities... intentional or not.
I think that's why when they throw in those little references-- it makes me smile. :)
BudLostinWeedSmoke 02-08-2007, 02:11 PM If you think about it, if sawyer is han.... then i guess you could say that kate would be leia? and if kate kissed jack once just like starwars does that make jack luke?
the producers did mention the love triangle but i think its a little unlikely kate's jacks sister
lol just something to think about
rulostrmi 02-08-2007, 02:24 PM Unlikely that Kate is Jack's sister... but there is speculation that Jack has a sister on the island.... only they couldn't be twins like Luke and Leia.
Also, would Ben be a closer parallel to Darth Vader or Darth Sidious? I'm going with Sidious. LOL
LOSTsteelerFAN 02-12-2007, 10:45 AM I know I'm one of the few who never saw any of the "Star Wars" movies, but would someone be nice enough to explain what the Wookie Prisoner Trick is? I feel like I'm missing out on an important Sawyer joke. Thanks.

There was a scene in one of the Star Wars movies where Han Solo and Luke are dressed up as storm troopers, and they put binders on Chewbacca, and act like they are escorting him as their prisoner to get past some guards. The scene played out pretty much exactly how it did in the LOST episode. GREAT REFERENCE!! I don't usually laugh out loud when I'm watching TV by myself, but this was one of those occasions.
Anime_Otaku 02-12-2007, 11:52 AM Unlikely that Kate is Jack's sister... but there is speculation that Jack has a sister on the island.... only they couldn't be twins like Luke and Leia.

The mysterious Jacob seems to be above Ben in the Others hierarchy so that would make Jacob Sidious and Ben Vader.
My fave bit was just after the wookie reference when Kate threatened to shoot the guy in the knee and Sawyer thought it was a Bluff, then she replied that it wasn't. Also the guy getting hit by the bus made me laugh
Shamu 02-12-2007, 12:17 PM Unlikely that Kate is Jack's sister... but there is speculation that Jack has a sister on the island.... only they couldn't be twins like Luke and Leia.
Ther are speculations that after TFTR (when Jacks dad was arguing with that blonde Aussie woman to let him see his daughter) that Claire and Jack are siblings, well... half-siblings.

Wait, wait, wait.....did you just say you have never seen Star Wars? WOW!
John Bender 02-13-2007, 08:01 PM The greatest Star Wars reference of all time was in the film "Boogie Nights."
???
jonboy861 02-14-2007, 01:04 AM I thought one of the funniest Sawyer lines was when Kate was talking to Jack, and Sawyer sarcastically says "tell him I said hi, would you get to the point!!!!" lol
Red Duck 02-14-2007, 04:00 AM Guess this means that Locke=Yoda??
I'd say that Eko = Yoda, and Locke = Obi-Wan. And of course, Charlie = C-3PO.
Sleestak 02-14-2007, 01:46 PM Please, please don't let there be a Jar Jar Binks....please
