Something interesting a friend and I predicted when Jack setup the escape for Kate & Sawyer (and I SWEAR I'm not trying to make this thread a shipper war, just some speculation!) One of us is a Jack/Kate fan, the other Sawyer/Kate, but we both agree, so there you go - just trying to begin an open discussion.
IMO, Kate has never felt "worthy" of Jack, even once snapping at Sawyer early in the show, "You're actually comparing yourself to Jack?" The whole "cut from the same cloth" vibe between her and Sawyer (not to mention the animal attraction) clearly made their union possible first.
In this situation now, Kate has the unique position to lead Jack's rescue and from the preview for the upcoming episode(s), it certainly seems that is what she'll do. The writers have always noted the internal struggle for personal redemption within each character, maybe this will be Kate's? Her emotional last contact with Jack via the walkie sealed her resolve to rescue him (at least I think).
We predicted back then that if Kate successfully rescues Jack, it will completely change the course of the love-triangle, and she might finally feel worthy of him.
Please no shipper war! And I apologize in advance if this was the wrong place to post it, but I'm just speculating on the events of this episode.
