View Full Version : Kick-Butt Kate is Back!!
jennylee27 02-08-2007, 01:27 PM I was so happy last night to see Kate go back to some of her kick-butt ways. Yes, I know she was emotional when she signed off with Jack (and Evi did a great job with that too), but her decking the guard in the opening scene and going to blow off the guy's knee were great moments. That was no con - she would have fired.
(Of course, Sawyer thought Juliet, a stranger, would have shot Kate, so you would think he would have a better read on his lover's intentions...)
This Kate is like the one that kicked Mars in the face during What Kate Did. Kate still rocks! :)
flyer61055 02-08-2007, 01:42 PM I was glad to see fiesty Kate back as well, but I am wondering why in Kate's mind it was wrong for Sayid and Jack to torture Sawyer to gain information, but it wasn't wrong for her to shoot a man in the knee to gain information.
It was a good reminder for viewers of just how cold and calculating she can be and I think it even shocked Sawyer who I don't believe would shoot someone in the knee to gain information.
lostgurl 02-08-2007, 01:44 PM Finally. Her and Sawyer sitting in those cages was driving me crazy. She was really starting to get depressing there for a while. I liked the fact that she was willing to turn around and go back to save Jack.
pacejunkie 02-08-2007, 01:45 PM Kate's worlds collided in this one. She's been spending her time on the island trying to be a good girl but given the right circumstances, her old criminal self comes back. I liked it a lot because until now she was starting to appear as though she had a split personality. I could hardly recognize the Kate on the island versus the Kate from before. Now you can clearly see they're one and the same.
I also liked how impressed Sawyer seemed with her moxie. I think he's most in love with this tough Kate than the girly one.

I agree...I love Tough Kate and I think she is the "real" Kate rather than the good girl she has been trying to force herself to be...That is why I think Sawyer is good for her, he likes tough girl Kate and can accept her being willing to shoot the guy's knee if she has to even if it was a surprise to him....

Aww, what a great post PJ! You said it really well. Kate is BOTH of these women, the emotional, loving one, and the cold, tough one. I hope the writers can maintain the balance for her.
>Sobek< 02-08-2007, 02:02 PM I agree, I almost lost hope on Kate, but this episode brought it back. Evi did great on the goodbye scene with her and jack, and I cant wait for the reunion. But like I everyone else I loved it when she threatened to shoot Aldo in the knee, that was amazing. I was sick of seeing the Kate who wears a dress does nothing this was definitely better.
whispervixen 02-08-2007, 02:02 PM I agree. She was great in the episode, especialy when she knocked that guy out with rifle. Go Kate!
Burnt Sienna 02-08-2007, 02:04 PM I was beginning to forget how tough Kate is, with all her crying and kissing over the past six episodes. I'm also glad to see tough Kate making a return.
annieone 02-08-2007, 02:09 PM Yes, finally indeed. And a big relief, actually. Kate rocks. Again.
Lost_in_CA 02-08-2007, 02:15 PM I don't think that Kate was trying to be the good girl but rather that is what the Others were trying to manipulate her into becoming. And it may have been starting to work, i.e. not just thinking of herself and refusing to leave without Sawyer and then Jack. But in the end Kate's a survivor and it was great to see her back in old Kate mode, taking no b*ll and smacking those "good people" Others around. I only wish she had been the one to off Danny.

Well said, Pace! We want pre-island Kate! I still wonder what happened to her on the island, though, after her time with Ben at breakfast. I think (hope) we might get a little more info on *why* she was good girl, subdued, non kick-butt-Kate there for awhile.
workingmom 02-08-2007, 02:19 PM I was beginning to forget how tough Kate is, with all her crying and kissing over the past six episodes. I'm also glad to see tough Kate making a return. Me too, I'm glad to see Kate snapped out of her passivity from the cages. But there are some inconsistencies in her going from being shocked at Sawyer's jubilance that an Other (Colleen) was gravely wounded, to being ready to shoot the guard in the knee just to get information. (Now it was Sawyer's turn to be surprised.) The latter, I guess, is the same Kate who opened fire on the Others' scouts in LTDA - shoot to kill, and the same Kate from the bank robbery in her flashback. Notice she shot people in the knee in the bank robbery too. She must have learned that from Terminator 2.
