View Full Version : No caves anymore?
Jacob 02-14-2007, 01:17 PM First of all, sorry if this has been posten before.
Why don't we see anyone in the caves anymore? I can't remember from S1 why they abandoned the caves, but I guess it is because of the discovery of the hatch. But now when the hatch is destroyed and all, shouldn't we see them in the caves then? I loved the caves back in Season 1 ..I want it back!
carrieres 02-14-2007, 02:04 PM I think the caves are not interesting for the train of the series ;)
And now, they know they're not alone on the island. They prefer stay on the beach for their security
DefenderOfMen 02-14-2007, 02:05 PM I believe security is a factor as well besides the fact they have the nickname (by Shannon) "The Rape Caves.
Ekosystem2112 02-15-2007, 12:13 PM Yeah, the caves were a casualty of plot. Not important enough to be acknowledged in the storytelling department, just a throw away line by Hurley that no one lives there anymore. As long as it rains they have water in those tarps (although it wouldn't be fresh clean water). However they are no safer on the beach that in the caves. Sceve was killed on the beach. I'm guessing that they would have to return sometime to the caves though, if only to explain the whole adam and eve skeleton thing.
metallidevils 02-16-2007, 03:40 AM because TPTB don't want to bring up the subject of Adam and Eve again until they figure out their meaning.
LostMyMarbles 02-16-2007, 04:15 PM I think they disassembled the set, so we won't be seeing THOSE caves again.
Kathleen1 02-16-2007, 06:35 PM They droped the Cave after they had found the Hatch and got there water and stuff from that. I think that they dont want to have a split in where people live and now that they know that there are "Others" they want to stay more together
myothercarisflight815 02-16-2007, 06:36 PM One of the caves collapsed on Jack & Charlie in "The Moth"

But they still used them after that, That is where Boone died
myothercarisflight815 02-17-2007, 12:41 AM Oh right... I forgot.
TJWriter90 02-17-2007, 09:26 PM But they still used them after that, That is where Boone died
Maybe thats a reason why they don't stay there anymore? It gives bad vibes now?
Tiny Time Machine 02-18-2007, 04:17 PM They don't use the Caves because of a real life Lost-production reason. They only have one stage in Hawaii to use for standing sets.
In season one they used this stage for the Caves
In season two they used it for the Swan Station
Now, in season three, they're using it for the Hydra Station
The Caves we saw in season one (like the Swan Station) don't exist anymore.
Starrox 02-18-2007, 05:26 PM I'm fairly sure they didn't have to get rid of the caves to make room for the Swan Station - they started using the Hawaii Film Studio/Diamondhead Studio at the beginning of the second season and the Swan Station was built there, but the Caves set was in the old Xerox Building. Not sure if or how long they continued to used the Xerox Building, but don't you think they could have kept the caves set if they had really needed it?

Oh yeah, I guess so. I thought I remembered hearing on the DVD commentary that they used the same studio, but I guess I remembered wrong.
Maybe it's just a cost thing then.
DefenderOfMen 02-20-2007, 01:03 PM I suppose if they really need to they can recreate the caves set without too much trouble. They have plenty of footage on it. And it may not be a cost thing. TPTB may have decided they weren't going to need the caves anymore but realized (too late) that they still needed it.
pinkrose 02-21-2007, 09:59 AM I thought I read somewhere that they didn't like shooting on that set. They didn't like how it looked, and it was hard to shoot in. They didn't think it was a very exciting set. I don't remember where I read that though.
RodimusBen 03-10-2007, 01:31 PM I remember reading the same thing.
