Thought I would throw this out there---

I thought that a pretty cool easter egg tonight was the fact that the first background the photographer pulled down for Des and Penny's picture is also a picture in the hatch.

I noticed that too.

It made me think the last background he pulled down would be a shot of the hatch or something.

What? What was the first picture again? I can't remember now.

It was the cactus/desert, wasn't it?

The pic they selected looked just like the skyline from Juliette's apartment when she opened up the curtains...

Not just like it - I believe the setting in the photo was long ago identified as a Sydney scene.
edit: As I just posted in another thread, it's the Honolulu skyline. Not Sydney.

However, the fake background might be a subtle clue to the use of other fake settings, possibly including the one in Rachel's (not Juliet's) room..

It's interesting that Des/Pen only took one copy of the pic. Both ended up with copies. Not likely a continuity error, since Pen's was so prominently displayed on her bedside table.

woah that is so cool. i would have never thought of that! way to go, that totally changes the penny scene at the end of season 2!! perhaps she is looking for him in an alternate universe where he did purpose and she has the picture.

Not only all of the above BUT... the background that the photographer pulled down that Des and Claire got the photo taken in front of is DIFFERENT (slightly, but it is) than the background in the photo that Des finds on the forest floor/ that he had kept. There are differences in boat railings, background images, clouds/no clouds...
100%
Might be continuity error, but yuo'd think they would use the same photo for both?

I kept thinking it was going to be the island! Dunno why it didn't occur to me that it was them taking "that photo from the hatch." Possibly because it never occured to me that the background in "that photo" was fake.

Excellent possibilities...

I remain suspicious of the Rachel scene...the way that Juliet threw open the curtains was too reminiscent of a magician's act...and so surreal to have the plane fly by (if it was a screen like the London photographer's)...but then, of course, there ARE such things as video screens...

Hey, I wonder if that is the significance of the doves we've seen (magician's doves)? (not to offend those who found religious/spiritual significance)

I am leaning, more and more, toward it being a LOST artificial universe....
