It seems like there have been numerous times that Sawyer has unbelievably escaped death. Perhaps he is destined to live through this? It would be a great irony if the only way to break the cycle is for Sawyer to die in Charlie's place.

the only tme I can really think of Sawyer almost dying is when he is about to get shot but Jack saves him. I think Charlie has been close to dying many more times-

-He almost gets his by that trolley on the train
-He almost gets crushed by the firey plane debris
-He is hung but is resesitated by Jack
Am I missing one?
-Does doing drugs heavaliy and avoiding an overdose count?

Yeah I thought that same thing...

But if you think that way - everyone on that plane that "survived" the crash could be in this continuous "course-correcting".

redmaria, in the episode "flashes," Charlie is supposed to die many times but desmond has interferd and saved him by changing the conditions of the time which changes the future. we are asking if, since sawyer has come so close to death so many times but has lived, without any last minute interference from someone else, does that mean that he not going to die on the island because fate is keeping him alive? We are just applying the rules, that the old lady in des's flashback stated about destiny, to sawyer.

I think he'll stay alive in the near future cause it seems that fate is keeping him alive at times. Other times sawyer has almost died were when he got shot by the others on the boat, and when he almost died of infection from that wound. There are probably many others cause sawyer is always doing dangerous things but he still lives.

Agreed, I think what is meant is that Sawyer gets abused the most, tortured, shot heck he was almost carried the entire way through season two. + many times he gets beat up, or just walloped (due to his attitude)

What I want to know is the Claire Charlie connection, she seems to be bad luck for the ole boy.
