View Full Version : "See this is why we don't do drugs"
Dr_Do_Right 4 8 15 16 23 42 02-15-2007, 12:46 AM One of my favorite lines from Charlie came tonight when he says that in reference to Desmond. I'm guessing this is after his whole fight with Liam so I would be assuming that he too is doin is ol' heoin.
Idk I just liked the line
Diesels Blitz 02-15-2007, 12:48 AM Haha yeah that was a classic line. I'm really starting to like Charlie now.
pacejunkie 02-15-2007, 12:50 AM Actually no, this was way before. The time frame would have been pre-Driveshaft and pre-drugs, but there's also a possibility that this reality never happened in Desmond or Charlie's pasts. It seems Charlie would have remembered meeting Des off island like Jack did.
annie_monica 02-15-2007, 12:55 AM Perhaps Charlie was never destined to do drugs
Melikon 02-15-2007, 12:56 AM One of Charlie's funniest lines yet.
GettinLost 02-15-2007, 12:59 AM Charlie had two great lines tonight!! The other one was about Sawyer's "incredibly large collection of porn"!! LOL!!! But the "drug one" was funny knowing that it came from Charlie!!
Dr_Do_Right 4 8 15 16 23 42 02-15-2007, 12:59 AM Yea I just assumed that it was after because he needed some money.
wolffootball37 02-15-2007, 01:01 AM That was a great one, i laughed out load at that one!

Exactly what I was going to say...at least about the time, though I like what you are saying about this "reality." I'd think Charlie would recognize such a person!

Yea I laughed out loud at that one too! lol...

Totally agree!
YellowTang 02-15-2007, 01:06 AM Okay, how about calling Des "the bearded wonder"?
Does any have the exact quote?
R S Lee 02-15-2007, 02:19 AM Well, I wouldn't be surprised if Charlie just decided to forget the guy who seemingly went insane in front of him.
But it was still a classic Charlie line.

Yup -- especially because Des continued to ask him where he knew Charlie from and why he looked familiar. When he finally said Charlie's name, Charlie was shocked. If Driveshaft had made it big already, Charlie would have said that's where he knew him from and it wouldn't have been so weird that he knew his name.
ikonn 02-15-2007, 04:02 AM I figured this was a few years before Driveshaft since it would be odd for a quasi famous band member to be out on the street playing for change. Also, if you figure it's 2004 on the island, and desmond was on the island for 3 years, in the military for at least another year or 2 and then give or take a few months to a year before that when he came out of Widmore's office, you would think that puts them into 1998 or so. It would seem that was before Driveshaft made it big. Then again I don't know.
Also I think he had another great, albeit unintentionally funny line. But then again I'm a sick bastard but the way it was worded and knowing the creator's/writer's senses of humour I figured it was intentional:
"You parked your big rod outside claire's tent and then fireworks!"
I know I"m sick. Still I chuckled.

actually, Charlie wasn't shocked at all. He merely agreed with Desmond and pointed out his name is on huge letters on a piece of cardboard by his guitar case.

You would think so, but with the number of people Charlie has come in contact with since in his touring etc. he might not remember. Or the flashback is colored by Desmond's imagination or really is a time-warp or whatever...:34853_huh:
I say stuff like this to my kids occasionally too, for example when an Allman Brothers guitar solo comes on. "This is why we don't do drugs, kids. They think they're so creative but you can hear it's just mindless." (No offense to Allman Bros. fans, really, and they are hardly unique in that situation.)

I think the real answer is that this was not an accurate memory of a past event. In Desmond's real past, he walked by Charlie without noticing him like all the other crosses we've seen.
BagelsAndLockes 02-15-2007, 11:42 AM Charlie is a heroin addict. It is quite reasonable to assume that he forgot that he ever met Des.

I think this is dead on. The first time through, Desmond didn't stop to notice Charlie. He marched out of anger and went on about his business. He stopped and realized he remembered this event and saw Charlie. He was in the process of reconstructing memories of the island and this triggered the memory of Charlie which caused him to walk over and talk to him.
It wouldn't surprise me if in a future episode, Desmond mentions this and Charlie remembers playing on the street. Perhaps something happens immediately after this scene that leads Charlie to go on to become famous and thus he remembers this day VERY clearly.
