View Full Version : Charlie and Claire: business as usual?
pacejunkie 02-15-2007, 01:00 AM All I kept thinking watching this was how hard the Daire shippers have got to be squeeing. Now we did get a reminder of how much Des still loves Penny (squee!) but I just have to say I was disappointed in the Charlie/Claire relationship that they showed. I thought they had advanced a bit after the campfire kiss, but it seems that they've fallen back into their old patterns. Charlie watches Aaron and chases Claire around and she acts like he's not even there. Charlie's still acting jealous of Desmond and Claire comes to from drowning and is all Charlie who? I felt bad for him. No wonder he's jealous, she seems to have gone back to using him again. I was hoping for a little bit more development in this relationship but eight episodes after the kiss, and we still haven't had a single scene where they actually talk to one another.
Melikon 02-15-2007, 01:05 AM Agree with you there Pace. Clair was starting to look/act like one of those tramps on Desperate Housewives.
Betsy 02-15-2007, 01:07 AM I have to disagree, Pace. The man just saved her life, so IMO, Claire was absolutely right to be giving her full attention to Desmond. I really like Charlie a lot and think he's a good guy at heart, but he's got some terrible control and jealousy issues with Claire; he has to start letting her breathe or they can never have a healthy relationship. I also don't see how Claire is using him at all; clearly she wanted to thank Desmond by herself. Did Charlie really have to accuse her of spending too much time with the man who saved her life? Aaron wasn't going anywhere. I want C/C, but if Charlie is going to be like this, then maybe I don't.
I do think Emilie and HIC have great chemistry and can definitely see Claire and Desmond being friends..........that would be wonderful
YellowTang 02-15-2007, 01:09 AM I actually think this episode showed growth for Charlie. He was more concerned for Claire than jealous and the jealousy he had seemed to go as quickly as it came.
cylune 02-15-2007, 01:14 AM I was actually a little surprised to see baby Aaron in Charlie's arm. Last time, it was pretty dramatic.
pacejunkie 02-15-2007, 01:17 AM I'm not talking about how Claire acted in the scene with Desmond Betsy, I just got the sense in general that she's back to treating Charlie like her brother. I understand Claire wanting to thank him and she certainly has the right to talk to whomever she chooses, but I think they went out of their way to make it look like Charlie was being ignored again.
As for Charlie, I wish they hadn't done the jealousy thing at all, even though it was fleeting, I guess I was hoping they'd moved past that. They're just not acting like a couple. Maybe Charlie and Claire could have gone to thank Desmond together. It just seemed like she was blowing him off. I was hoping for some nice romantic scene after Claire woke up and saw Charlie there and instead you get this long shot of Desmond taking her away. I think that was intentional and I was disappointed. We've been waiting a long time to see those two as a couple and we're still waiting.
Betsy 02-15-2007, 01:28 AM I see your points, Pace; I wish I knew what to make of this. The writers were not focusing on Claire/Charlie in any capacity this episode; it was all about Desmond. I assume that's why we didn't see any alone time between Charlie and Claire. It didn't bother me at all in this episode, to be honest, but I wouldn't exactly mind some bonding scenes with them. I"ve had more than my fill of Jack, Kate and Sawyer (which, IMO, is boring and done to death)
pacejunkie 02-15-2007, 01:34 AM At this point the way they are setting it up I wonder what Claire's reaction would even be to the news that Charlie was going to die. Would she care any more than she would if it were Locke or Sayid? I'd like to think she would but we've gotten so little from her and from them as a couple that I just don't know. I'd like to think she'd be devastated but maybe not.
rabidranger 02-15-2007, 01:40 AM I just keep trmindiong myself, that on the Island, not a whole lot of time (in relative terms) has passed by, so whatever behavior Claire and Charlie exhibit towards others and one another isn't all that surprising. They're still pretty much strangers after all, so I don't expect them to act like an "old married couple", or even like a couple that has been dating for a month, because frankly, they're relationship hasn't even been defined in those terms yet.
100%
I actually think this episode showed growth for Charlie. He was more concerned for Claire than jealous and the jealousy he had seemed to go as quickly as it came.
I have to diagree. Claire was gone for five minutes and Charlie was running after her. When he noticed that she was talking to Desmond, his whole demeanor sank.

ITA. Claire is very close to the death threat and that will have to come out but in another story. Desmond's episode was focused where it should have been-on his story.

Well, it didn't sink for long and he let it go quickly and held no grudge. That indicates progress. :clapping:
redmaria 02-17-2007, 03:13 PM hahahahah!imagine Aaron in Des' arms.!!''Do your panties need changing, brotha?''
irish lost fan 02-17-2007, 03:21 PM Charlie was being his usual jealous type cause thats the kind of person he is. The fact that Desmond saved her and not himself probably made him feel unsecure with Claire.
As for Claire, she just nearly drowned, she seemed really shook up about it, hence the whole like "oh ya Charlie sure" stuff when he came up to her with baby Aaron. She wasn't thinking of Charlie she was thinking of how she just nearly drowned and if it wasn't for Desmond she could have died.
I think we really need to see more of Charlie/Claire together before we can really judge if they've grown or not. But by the way the season has been so far we'll only ever get a 2 second glimpse of Claire.
lockeisthekey 02-17-2007, 03:27 PM I don't think Claire even considers Charlie as a romantic possibility. She likes him
AS A FRIEND. If the spark was there, it would be a flame by now.
There's a better chance that Claire and John will be together. She kinda flirts with HIM.
She's made a lot of comments about how Charlie is too controlling, acting like they're married, etc. I just don't see them as a couple. Ever.
Holmes 02-17-2007, 03:49 PM Serious question - how can you shippers care so much about characters who are so " thin ", poorly written and inconsistent in their actions ? The whole island almost blows up and Claire sits on the beach ??!! From being such an interesting character, she's become a tool, a damsel in distress. Much like Kate.

Not all relationships are "Love at first sight". Some take a lot of time and build up gradually.

That is a very good question. It's hard. It's very hard. I fell in love with Claire in season 1. Ever since then she's been back burned constantly. It's hard for me to stay in love with her and care anything about her when I never see her do anything but sit around and hold Aaron, cute as that may be. I'd LOVE more than anything to see her actually do something. Even if she stays on the beach. Being a mom and all, her options for action are not as much as someone like Kate's. It's hard.... very very hard. I have no good answer for you becuase honestly I'm struggling with it every episode.
I guess the best thing I can offer (and this goes for every character we never see anymore) is, I'm holding on to the good times when we used to see them and hoping that someday we'll get to have times like that again.

I completely agree with you!

If that's true then it was really unfair of her to kiss Charlie. It's obvious he has a romantic interest in her.

I still have hope for the magic of the peanut butter. They were so adorable back in season one and then someone just decided to mess it up. You're right, I don't like what they've done with Claire at all, but she hasn't gotten enough screentime to see her do much of anything else. I've never been much of a shipper for any show (complete noromo during the Mulder/ Scully years), but Charlie and Claire were just too darn adorable not to like.
