So, am I crazy or did the paint can seem to be labeled "Future"? It appeared to say FUTU-- with the rest of the label covered by red paint.

Not sure if it's a real or fictitious brand of paint.

http://www.futurepaint.com

I don't think the website is related to the show but they got some special kind of paint that produces cool effects :)

This is not a brand of paint, I live not far south of London and have sadly spent to long in DIY stores looking at paint

Thanks DA. It doesn't look like a typical American paint can label. I'd say the prop guys had a lot of fun with this episode.

I guess Desmonds future is to be on the knocked out on the ground with blood running out of him. Unfortunate.

This is kind of off the topic of your discussion, but I just thought I'd add how freaky it was when they first go to that scene, when Des is just laying there and it looks like he's covered in blood. I'm happy it was paint. Des looked so shocked and then was so relieved to be with Penny. So cute, but it didn't last long.

Yeah, I know Desmond was drunk when he started painting, but damn, he didn't even bother to take all the framed pictures down! And he only got one corner (sloppily) painted!

Oh, wait, was that significant somehow?

Check out the easter eggs for this epi that dark has compiled, the paints in there as well as some others that I never would have seen on my tv.

Actually, it kind of reminded me of when he knocked down his hatch buddy on the rocks and bashed his head.

This is what I posted in a thread I started before I was told it was already being discussed...let me know what you think please!

When he first woke up on the floor and we see that huge puddle or red paint, the first thing I thought was that were were going to see some sort of trauma scene/death scene since the paint looked very much like blood. When Des looks over and sees the can of spilled paint, we can make out the letters "Futu" which many are assuming says "Future" if the paint was covering it up.

Desmond looks at his hand (which looks like it's all bloody) and it seems like he is confused but slightly recognizing things, much like he did when he sees 108 on the clock in his bedroom and the beeping of the microwave. The camera pulls back and we see a huge puddle of paint that looks like it is coming from Desmon'd head (probably how it would look if he had just shot himself in the head), and that's what made me think that it was a trauma/death scene.

I'm wondering if maybe Desmond realized he has seen something like this before (i.e. killing himeself) via a premonition or future glimpse, and the can of paint with the word Future on it was further reinforcing that this is what his future holds.

Where I'm going with this is that we have never met Radzinsky, but we know he committed suicide in the hatch by putting a gun in his mouth.

Is it possible that "Radzinsky" was actually Desmond using a fake name and the stress and weirdness of the hatch got to him to the point where he committed suicide? (this could be the result of a previous trip in the time loop if it exists)

We know from the converstation with the jewelry lady that the universe can "course correct" itself. Desmond also told Charlie that each time he appeared to be helping Claire he was actually protecting Charlie from getting killed, but regardless of what he did to intervene each time, Charlie ends up dying in the end.

The night that Locke was banging on the hatch window, we know that Desmond was about to commit suicide but didn't do it once he heard Locke outside banging on the hatch. So maybe "Radzinsky"/Desmond committed suicide and he was sent back to the beginning to try it again. He was about to give up the 2nd time as well, but Locke's intervention by banging on the hatch kept him from making the mistake again.
The jewelry lady said that Desmond's destiny was to use that failsafe key. When "Radzinsky"/Desmond committed suicide, the universe stepped in and sent him back to the beginning as a means of "course correction". Since he was destined to turn that failsafe key, killing himself before that was done resulted in the "try again". The second time he had the strength to not do it and ended up getting to turn the key. When he woke up on the floor of his flat, maybe that was a sign from the Island/Universe that even though he turned the key, no matter what he did he was still going to die. I'm willing to bet that we will eventually see another scene that implies Desmond might be dead. Maybe he has seen himself die a number of times like Charlie, which could explain his bizarre behavior at times.
It might be possible that he saw himself committing suicide when Locke banged on the hatch and didn't in up giving in to it as a means of self-preservation I think this is much more likely than the "Radzinsky"/Desmond fake name thoughts .So basically I'm saying that the Island is kind of saying something like "OK, you didn't kill yourself that time, or when you turned the failsafe key, but you are eventually going to die" I know this might be really confusing, but I'm hoping it will make sense to someone :) Please let me know thoughts/comments.. Thanks!
