Do we know anything about Desmond's friend, Donovan? Have we ever seen him in others flashbacks or is this a first? Is 'Donovan' an anagram for anything?

The actor's name is Shishir Kurup. He was the actor who played Nirand in Heros, but it appears that FBYE was his first and only (to date) episode of Lost. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0476094/

Donovan is the name of a '60s singer who sang about oceans, mountains, the present and the future. His songs include "As I Recall It", "Everlasting Sea", "Hi It's Been A Long Time", "Sailing Homeward", "Slow Down World", and "There Is An Ocean." If you want to investigate Donovan's lyrics, go to :

I haven't yet seen a specific song or lyrics that I would say is a Lost clue, but much of what Donovan sang about is similar to Lost themes. Using the name 'Donovan' in Lost keeps up the theme of mentioning yesterday's bands & singers, though unlike "Driveshaft" and "Geronamo Jackson", Donovan is real.

He also wrote The Fat Angel (http://www.asklyrics.com/display/Donovan/The_Fat_Angel_Lyrics/9069.htm) for Cass Elliot, and of course, Atlantis.

It's antediluvian, baby. ;)

Donovan (Donovan Philips Leitch, born May 10 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/May_10), 1946 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1946), in Maryhill (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maryhill), Glasgow (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glasgow)) is a British (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Britain) popular singer, songwriter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singer-songwriter) and guitarist. Emerging from the British folk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Folk_music) scene, he developed an eclectic and distinctive style that blended folk, jazz (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jazz), pop (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Popular_music), psychedelia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychedelic_music) and world music (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_music).
Donovan shot to fame in the United Kingdom in early 1966 after a series of showcase live performances on the pop TV series Ready Steady Go! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ready_Steady_Go%21) and his popularity soon spread to the USA and elsewhere. After signing with the British label Pye Records (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pye_Records) he began a long and successful collaboration with record producer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Record_producer) Mickie Most (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mickie_Most), scoring a string of major hits in the UK, the USA and other countries, including several British and American #1 and million-selling hits.
Donovan was one of the most popular British recording artists of his day, producing a series of hit albums and singles between 1965 and 1970 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1960s_in_music). He became a close friend of many leading pop musicians including Joan Baez (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joan_Baez), Brian Jones (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Jones), Bob Dylan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Dylan) and The Beatles (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Beatles), and was one of the few artists to collaborate on songs with the Beatles. He influenced both John Lennon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Lennon) and George Harrison (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Harrison) when he taught them his finger-picking (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finger-picking) guitar style in 1968. Donovan's commercial fortunes waned after he parted ways with Most in 1969, and he left the music scene for a time.
He continued to perform and record sporadically in the 1970s and 1980s, but gradually fell from favour. His gentle musical style and hippie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hippies) image was scorned by critics, especially after the advent of punk rock (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punk_rock). Donovan withdrew from performing and recording several times during his long career, but he underwent a strong revival of interest in the 1990s with the emergence of the rave (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rave) scene in Britain. Late in the decade he recorded a successful album with acclaimed producer and long time fan Rick Rubin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rick_Rubin) and released a new album, Beat Cafe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beat_Cafe), in 2004.

Lyrics for his biggest hit,Mellow Yellow:
I'm just mad about Saffron.
A-Saffron's mad about me.
I'm-a just mad about Saffron.
She's just mad about me.

They call me Mellow Yellow,
Quite rightly.
They call me Mellow Yellow,
Quite rightly.
They call me Mellow Yellow.

I'm just mad about Frontine.
A-Frontine's mad about me.
I'm-a just mad about-a Frontine.
A-She's just mad about me.

They call me Mellow Yellow.
They call me Mellow Yellow,
Quite rightly.
They call me Mellow Yellow.

Born-a high forever to fly.
Wind-a velocity nil.
Born-a high forever to fly.
If you want your cup, I will fill.

They call me Mellow Yellow,
Quite rightly.
They call me Mellow Yellow,
Quite rightly.
They call me Mellow Yellow.

So mellow yellow..

Electrical banana
Is gonna be a sudden craze.
Electrical banana
Is bound to be the very next phase.

They call it Mellow Yellow,
Quite rightly.
They call me Mellow Yellow,
Quite rightly.
They call me Mellow Yellow.

Saffron, yeah.
I'm just-a mad about her.
I'm-a just-a mad about-a Saffron.
She's just mad about me.

They call me Mellow Yellow,
Quite rightly.
They call me Mellow Yellow,
Quite rightly.
They call me Mellow Yellow.

Oh, so yellow..
Oh, so mellow..

Hmmm...symbolic????sikes!!!:)

And Alan Dale (Mr Widmore) played Jason Donovan's father-in-law in Neighbours.

Maybe a sign that after Desmond is out of the picture, Donovan makes a move on Penny? Really clutching at straws here!

I think the idea of Donovon helping Penelope find Desmond could have a lot of validity to it. The observation station that we saw in Tale of Two Cities could have definitely been constructed and managed with Donovon's knowledge of physics.

Particularly since we know Penny has been looking for either Des or the island.

Actually, Claire's psychic knows that flight 815 crashed on the island. The question is whether he would do anything to save our Losties. I don't think he would, because the psychic believes the island is the only place to raise Aaron safely. Penny has an interest (we hope) in bringing Des home.

i thought he told her that he should be raised by her ,alone...
i really dont believe this way of thinking could help us..i mean, claire's psychic abilities couldnt really be compared to desmonds or lockes.each of these people is completely different concerning their clairvoyant powers.
