Certainly looked more of an 80's game than one that was played 3 years ago.

I thought it was Barcelona at first I have to admit. I've just rewatched that scene, and Desmond calls one of the teams 'Greybridge'. There's no such team that I've heard of. I was trying to hear the match commentary and the player who hits the post was called Matisse/Batisse. Don't think it was El Gran Classico after all cagundena. Welcome to the 'Lage!

They dont have the rights to show the Premier League or even use their names so they used a foreign game with made up teams as it was cheaper.

okay timeline: Des turned the key in Nov. 04. He spent 3 years in the hatch, at least 2 in military, and this was after the soccer match. It was, at the latest, summer of 1999. which was 5 years before island time, not 3.

It def looked like Barca/Real to me too. Looks like they bought some old footage and changed the names/commentary and possibly the billboards with cgi. The players have sponsorship on their shirts although you cant make it out. My best guess (from what i can see) is the kit Real used with "Siemens" on it, which would tie up with 1999 or later i think.

Didn't think about rights to show old PL matches. I thought at first it might have been an old Champions League match.

It turns out that the year was confirmed as 1996 by the Official Lost Pod Cast. However, I originally figured it to be 1999, which was the year Manchester United came back with 2 goals in the final 2 minutes to win the CL. And Manchester United is a team burdened with the crash of a plane in it's history.

Are the teams that played the wrong night the same two teams that played the correct night?

But wasn't the team that Desmond said were going to come back from 2 goals down playing in white in the first match, but the team who did score and came back in the second weren't playing in white (playing in, as people have said, a Barca kit).

Thanks, that makes sense. Still, its interesting how the same song played at exactly the same point in both games, as if right on cue. Another "Lost" coincidence I guess.
