so being a huge lost nerd, I was diligently re-watching old episodes when I came across something interesting that I remember dismissing as some sort of production error when I saw it originally.

in episode 206 - "Abandoned" (aka the one where Shannon gets what's coming to her) at about 11 minutes in (if you're watching without commercials) right after Shannon's flashback in the hospital where she finds out her dad is dead, they cut to a shot from the top of a hill as the tailies walk up the hill into frame. behind them is the landscape of the island, beyond that is the ocean, and just a few miles offshore there is a clearly visible island

were they actually giving us a hint all the way back then? or was that really just a slip-up?

I just had a look. You can see a few offshore rocks (which show up many times), but everything else in the background is connected together - of course there's no way of telling that it's not another island. But I think it's safer to assume that it's meant to be part of the island they're on.

They actually revealed it in season 1 in Rousseau's maps.

Her maps show the main island and 3 small islands. I'll see if I can find a link.

This may help you. It's an old thread and not all of the links to actual pictures of the maps are still valid, but some are and there is a ton of information, including discussion of the three smaller islands.
