View Full Version : I have a gift...
MinnieVanMommie 02-21-2007, 11:46 PM Jack had been with her for a month at least and she was not able to open up to her what her "gift" is...She sees who people "are" and her tattoos are marks of peoples souls...
A great man ..a leader..this makes him lonely and angry..and apparently a good lover..the meaning of his tattoo...Answer Number 3...or is it he walks amongst us but he is not one of us....
Were the consequences to her or where they the ones that lead him to the island???
care_n_jim 02-22-2007, 12:09 AM I am confused by the tatoo - does it say anger leader etc or does it say does not belong - did he know that she didn't give him the words that she saw in him?
Also, why would she be allowed to date an outsider>
MinnieVanMommie 02-22-2007, 12:32 AM I dont know...I quickly did a run through on google but have not come up with anything that hit me in the eye...
I always said they answered questions with only more questions...
I still dont know what those consequences would be for her..I see he got bet up...but that was a conseqwuence of a consequence...and because she gave it to him...the tattoo I mean...does that mean it spiritually altered his fate/destiny???
I'm still confused about her gift. What the hell is it and why are people mad that she gave Jack a tattoo?
I have so many more questions now.
Selene1212 02-22-2007, 01:46 AM I think she knew she would be killed / exiled / punished (whatever) for tattooing him his fate, so she tattooed him with that instead of actually "marking" him. The men beat Jack up because Jack pretty much forced her into doing it & could've potentially ruined her life.
If you ask me he's lucky she didn't tattoo something worse on him!

I think you're on the right track with this thought. I think geting this tattoo caused Jack to 'have to' fulfill the destiny she saw within him. Meaning that Jack formerly had the choice to hide in a botle and be a coward for the rest of his life, but getting the tattoo has in some way propelled Jack to where he is today.
I do not think the same holds true for Juliet's.
Dolphinjen 02-22-2007, 12:35 PM Okay, I must've fallen asleep for awhile during this episode. How do we know they were together for a month? And I thought the gift was...sex.
MinnieVanMommie 02-22-2007, 12:46 PM She said something to him where it is mentioned it is a month later and you have no questions for me???
Her gift was not having sex with him....It was this spiritual thing of "seeing" people and who they are and who they might become...

I watched it online, and didn't catch the "month" reference. And I know "her" gift is "seeing" people, but I thought she said she had a gift for him. Different kind of gift. Both my husband and I will rewatch it (he hasn't seen it) and I'll look for the reference that they've been together awhile.

I agree with you. I think that she holds a very high religious role in the community. She has a gift of seeing people for who they are and marking them. This is reflective of what a native american would receive for themselves on (I forget the term) the journey in the smoke house. I mention this because Locke used that method.
I also feel that she is not allowed NOT to share her gift. This is why she advised him against it but cried while she did it. However, I believe she told her brother.
This is why she changed how she worded Jack's mark. It's still true.
Someone mention that Jack was alright as a bed partner but not as a client. I believe this is a misinterpretation. I believe receiving the mark is a religous right. An example can be seen as a inter-religous marriage. Just because you marry a Catholic (let alone just sleep with one) does not entitle you to recieve communion. You actually need to become a member of the Catholic communty.
Jack was way out of line to demand the mark.
MinnieVanMommie 02-22-2007, 01:35 PM During the 17th minute of the episode...Jack says "After a month of you coming and going....."
Check it for free on line...It is after the 3rd commercial...
Dolphinjen 02-22-2007, 01:48 PM Got it. Thanks!
Absolutely. The timeline is referenced. There is no need to argue over things that you can prove beyond a doubt.
Now, back to the religous aspects of the gift...

Sorry, wasn't aware I was arguing :hide:
ferdo 02-22-2007, 08:10 PM I thought her gift was being hot and having sex with men (prostitute). I was expecting that.
Maxum 02-22-2007, 08:21 PM I don't think it can be determined that her gift was religious or spirtual in any sense. It's certainly a theory, but I think her gift was just that - a gift; an ability. Like she said, she's able to define the people she sees, but she told Jack that an outsider is not allowed to be marked. Why not? Is this a prejudice or a deeply rooted fear? Only those born in Thailand can receive her gift? Again, why? She did warn Jack about a consequence if she marked an outsider, but who bears the consequence? Jack? Her? She was very upset about what her brother and his friends did to Jack, but I couldn't tell if she was upset for him or herself. Was she in trouble or was Jack heading for trouble? Yes, we know about the crash, but he survived.
It's not really clear what Jack's tattoos really mean. I think it's interesting what someone mentioned a few posts back that maybe Atchara (?) revealed to Jack the actual meaning of who she saw in him, but to protect him, she gave Jack a more benign meaning on his shoulder. But if that's true, why was it necessary to conceal the truth in his tattoo? Why not just put that he's a leader on his arm? Is this because she didn't want to alert anyone (including Isabelle) that Jack IS a leader? So many questions.
See, how can some say that last night's episode was not intriguing. I'm intrigued.
