View Full Version : Cindy IS an OTHER
MinnieVanMommie 02-21-2007, 11:56 PM It IS that simple. Answer Number 2..
She is "playing" the same caretaker role in her real life as in her Other life. She took care of people on the plane as a flight attendent and now as a "mommy" figure.
whispervixen 02-22-2007, 12:07 AM Hrm... interesting theory there. Sounds like you could be right.
DharmaChick 02-22-2007, 12:07 AM It seems like she had a nice long session with that film that Carl was watching.
Good point about her role. I guess you can't really change who you are.
Kevonski 02-22-2007, 12:08 AM She seemed unsure of herself..... She is a babysitter, a recruited babysitter.
MinnieVanMommie 02-22-2007, 12:17 AM She did say it was not that simple...so I guess she may also be brainwashed to beleive that is a better life....
PinkyAndTheBrain 02-22-2007, 12:20 AM But, what were they there "to watch"?
Melikon 02-22-2007, 12:25 AM But, what were they there "to watch"?
Juliet's trial I think.
DharmaChick 02-22-2007, 12:28 AM Juliet's trial I think. That's how I interpreted it. They were in there when Jack and Alex showed up.
Betsy 02-22-2007, 12:28 AM Cindy and the other Others were there to watch Jack in his cage, like an animal in a zoo. TPTB love Twilight Zone and I think this was an homage to People Are Alike Allover, an eppy where an astronaut is locked in a house as an exhibit for Martians to view (but he was unaware that this was to be his fate). The Others want to view him to see how a human reacts to being imprisoned, yet another experiment being enacted on our Losties.

Exactly I think she was taken and brainwashed and the rest of the people what were with Cindy were also taken from flight 815 - tailsection
Selene1212 02-22-2007, 01:49 AM OR... has she always been an 'other'?

That's what I was wondering. I'm currently entertaining the theory that perhaps Cindy was a "plant" like Goodwin. I really don't see how she could have been "abducted" back in Season 2 unless she went willingly. The Others are good, but I don't know that they're that good.

She was on the plane, though. That's how she remembered Jack, she served him his drinks on the flight.

My idea was that during the tailies' time on the beach when Goodwin 'made the list' it was determined by the others/Goodwin that Cindy was an easy target for conversion (or just the person they need for other reasons). So she was brainwashed by Goodwin while on the beach. And after he got the stick from good little Ana Lucia, she might have had contacts with other others and finally joined them while the rest of the tailies were climbing up that slope. There's got to be a reason why no one heard any struggle or anything when she was 'taken'. I say she went willingly.
flashbackfan 02-22-2007, 05:05 AM I have a gut instinct that she always was an Other.. which would make it very likely that flight 815 was controlled by them all along.
meira 02-22-2007, 06:41 AM I suspected that Cindy was an other when we saw the first dharma video with the oceanic logo in the degroots office. And I don't think she is the only other either. I have suspected Bernard ever since he was sitting up in that tree so carefully placed as to be able to have a birdseye view of the whole scenerio...and then calls for help after they are all on the beach. I have my suspicions that there may be an"other" plant or two with the losties as well. Time will tell...hopefully. Makes sense though why Cindy would say its not that simple to explain, Im sure she would have ALOT of explaining to do as to how she got wrapped up in all of this!!
Nelly Gooch 02-22-2007, 09:23 AM I too was struck by the homage to the Twilight Zone eppisode. I also thought Cindy was an other already when she said "it's complicated Jack" It goes along with the theory that the plane was destined for the island to begin with.
lost_horizon 02-22-2007, 09:31 AM Could be the Stockholm syndrome? Or I am wondering if maybe during that brief time she had a romantic fling with Goodwin when he was a plant.

Yours and Angela's idea is very interesting. Guess I never thought of that. I was just thinking that she had spent enough time with Karl's video that she now bought into their whole eutopian society theory. But I do like the idea that she was a plant on the plane.
BollyJack 02-22-2007, 09:45 AM Did all those Lostaways come to see Julia's execution. Is that what Cindy means, "were here to watch"?
DharmaChick 02-22-2007, 12:19 PM That's what I was wondering. I'm currently entertaining the theory that perhaps Cindy was a "plant" like Goodwin. I really don't see how she could have been "abducted" back in Season 2 unless she went willingly. The Others are good, but I don't know that they're that good.Claire had been abducted, and she certainl did not go willingly.
We definitely know that she was on the plane, because Jack knew her (and hadn't met her yet on the island).
So, if she IS an other, she was planted before the flight.
There is also the whole Gary Troup thing, which could possibly support the theory that she is an other (to get him on the island).
MinnieVanMommie 02-22-2007, 03:17 PM I haver always entertained the idea that Cindy was an other in the real world who was put on the plane to oversee its crash onto the islnd of the Others...There ws a thread last season that said Cindy was an Other....I think Herk was the original poster of that thread...
Tiny Time Machine 02-22-2007, 03:23 PM I haver always entertained the idea that Cindy was an other in the real world who was put on the plane to oversee its crash onto the islnd of the Others...
Haha, what?
What about this thread on the season premiere you made that said "the plane was NOT crashed on purpose": http://www.thefuselage.com/Threaded/showthread.php?t=58800
In fact you got my thread that said it was crashed on purpose deleted, now that I remember it, because I gave it a similar title to yours.
MinnieVanMommie 02-22-2007, 03:29 PM I have been watching this show for 3 seasons now....before the beginning of this season I entertained the idea that cindy waS on the plane to oversee the crash of the plane onto the island...
During the first episode this season it was apparent that the others on the island did not know the plane was going to crash...
My exact quote is this...
The Others were totally shocked when that plane crashed...They did not pick them out on purpose.
That being said....it could be that the Others in the real world knew...
And yes I hate when there are thread stealers....It is rude and it just shows people dont have a mind of their own when they feed off of Others threads...I try very hard not to do that and would not do that to anyone knowingly. It is called posting etiquitte...
MadKowDZ 02-22-2007, 03:32 PM Could be the Stockholm syndrome? Or I am wondering if maybe during that brief time she had a romantic fling with Goodwin when he was a plant.
My vote is on Stockholm syndrome. Its been proven that hostages really do begin to sympathize with their captors if enough time is spent with them.
lostobsessed23 02-22-2007, 03:44 PM I don't know if I think Bernard is an Other, but I do believe eventually we will find out that there has been an Other amongst our Losties the whole time.
In Seasons 1 and 2, there was that stupid diary on the abc.com website with a few different authors but I think the last author of the diary was supposed to be an Other amongst our Losties.

The problem with plane being crashed on purpose and Cindy being an other all along is obvious - how in hell could they ever be sure she'd survive the crash? Unless, of course, they had a whole bunch of plants on that plane in hope that at lease one would survive. From the first episode this season I think it was established quite firmly that the plane was NOT crashed on purpose.
lostobsessed23 02-22-2007, 03:49 PM Stockholm Syndrome could be an ongoing theme... just look at Jack and Juliette :)
MinnieVanMommie 02-22-2007, 08:22 PM The plane was not crashed on purpose which is what we found out this season...previous to this season I always entertained the idea that Cindy was on board to oversee the crash...Knowing about the magnetic field the Others would know the plane would survive here somehow..
If you all are interested I am sure you can go back to read my other 900 plus posts to see my thoughts evolove...ebb and flow....make a solid decision and than change my mind...I am female here...and I still would never steal a thread idea from someone knowingly...especially one that would be on the same board in the same episode...
