Very unusual for LOST...SOOO many stars in the sky...seems like the only time we saw stars was in the infamously-debated backwards-Big-Dipper-but-not-really-maybe-the-Southern-Cross scene...
Maybe they were looking at "our" sky this time? Or heading toward our solar system?

Stars shown when Karl & Alex are on the boat, at the end of the epi (no cap of the "Milky Way" though):

Well, I was wrong...I thought we had only seen a few stars before. Here's 2 caps that Sam G has from S1/PIlot 1:

I thought the milky way looked very wrong. I was hoping someone would screen cap that.

In what scene?

I'm no expert, but the stars would look very different in the southern hemisphere anyway, wouldn't they?

I used to live in Buenos Aires and not only do the stars get all messed up; the moon gets inverted, so that when there's a crescent moon it looks like a smiley face! I thought it was actually pretty shocking the first time I saw it, and it's definitely obvious. Have we ever seen the moon on the show???
What I see looks just like a black box too.

The stars are cgi anyway. They wouldn't take shots of the actual night sky because the stars wouldn't show up.

Just 3 nights ago I saw the same thing and I'm in Louisiana! The moon's crescent shape was at the bottom just like a smiley face. Unusual......

The fact they are CGI means TPTB can put any sort of stars up there that they want. I remember all those threads where people tried to figure out if there were any clues in the stars, I wonder if there's anything glaringly wrong with this one.

I thought it was cute that Karl and Alex were/are so surrounded by science/scientists, that they named "their" star the Latin name, Ursa Theodorus, as astronomers would do. :) :D I'm pretty sure that's not going to show up on any of the star maps I have.
Of course, there's the tie-in of their pet name with Emma and Zack's teddy bear that those two keep passing around. Poor Emma, she's gonna be bummed when she finds out about Ana-Lucia. :(
I wonder if the stars are clearer to viewers on the Island now that the electromagnetic field isn't providing a "snow globe" effect?
