Before I watched SIASL I'd heard that Isabel was going to be some sort of judge. The first thing that I thought when I heard that, was when Mr. Eko was seemingly judged by the smoke monster in 3x05: The Cost of Living.

Having watched SIASL, I now believe that Isabel is connected to the smoke monster in some way. Whether she controls it, is it, or it's some extension of psychic abilities she may have, I couldn't say. But there's two points from this episode that make me think this:

The scene in which she talks to Jack in the cage, if you listen carefully, you can hear the same ch-ch-ch, ch-ch-ch noise that the smoke monster makes.

The second point comes from when she's interviewing Jack about Juliet. She obviously knew Jack was lying. I think she was able to look into him, just as the monster would (telepathy perhaps) and know this for certain.

Possibly, but what I noticed was the Tom seemed afraid of her. Maybe, it was just the tenseness of the situation, but it also seemed like he was afraid of her and her power...

I didnt notice the sounds (I was a bit tired though :)) I will have to pay attention to that next time.

If you mean that rattling noise, it seems to be there when Juliet visits Jack at the cage too. It occurs more often when Isobel is there though - maybe something to do with the time of day and the waking pattern of the bird (if it is a bird).

i didn't hear smokey at all while replaying that scene. I think you may have confused the sound with sounds from the jungle.

Still, interesting parallel between Isabel and the smoke monster. I wonder if her judgement or telepathy abilities are going to come into play later on

I know there were a couple times when I could hear the same noises that Smokey makes....one was when Jack was in the "cage". It allmost sounded like the Smokey sound was mixed with some kind of tropical bird....I heard another Smokey like sound during the show, but I honestly can't remember when.

It is not exactly the same sound. If it were we'd immediately be looking for the monster. The sound in this episode is much more "insect" like. To me the sound which is made by the monster sounds like a machine and chains. I do think that the use of this is intentional and is probably a reference to the security system. (who and when was that term used?)
