View Full Version : What was wrong with Juliet's face?
lockeisthekeytx 02-22-2007, 01:06 PM In the last 10 minutes of the episode, when Juliet is walking up to Jack's cage at night to talk to him, the light streams across her face and for a split second she looks either really old or maybe like her sister Rachel. Did anyone else notice this? It was right when they cut from a flashback scene on the Thai beach. Can anyone help out with a screenshot? It's probably about 52 minutes in, including commercials

I noticed that too. She had just been "branded", and we can assume that means with a red-hot poker. Imagine how you'd look after an experience like that.
No cosmic significance to the red under her eyes, I think.
Dolphinjen 02-22-2007, 01:18 PM I think she's just been under the threat of death for how many hours, and then went through excruciating pain, she's bound to look a little worse for the wear. But I agree, I had to look carefully too, she definitely looked different. And I noticed as she walked towards the cage that she was walking very gingerly. I wondered (until of course they told us) what they had done to her. I knew they marked her in some way, but holy mother of jacob, that must've hurt.
lockeisthekeytx 02-22-2007, 01:25 PM I thought it was from her being branded too, but it was so much more noticeable from far away, almost like her face was morphing as she walked closer. Creepy

You just made me laugh out loud really hard and now my 2-year old is looking at me like I'm crazy. Now he's laughing too...two crazy people laughing in a kitchen...great. But I noticed that morphed thing you're talking about. I thought it was just me. Sometimes I see things, it's good to know I'm not hallucinating.
readdicted 02-22-2007, 01:31 PM I thought she looked pale and sickly, I figured it was from the ordeal of being on trial and branded. Since it appears a lot of people also noticed it though, makes me wonder..

Ok good so I wasn't the only one who noticed. I was starting to think I was losing it lol
HeadFirstForHalos 02-22-2007, 01:38 PM It was more than likely stress/pain that we saw on her face.

In other words, "I see morphed people."
Billy Shears 02-22-2007, 01:43 PM The way she bent at the knees to pluck the aloe plant, as a guy with a bad back would do. Her fresh brand was hurting and bending at the waist would have stretched her skin and made it worse. Good acting.
KeepingAwake 02-22-2007, 04:05 PM The change in her face was quite noticeable, in fact I was thinking at first she might have been beaten. But as several people have said, I think she was meant to look drained and exhausted after the day she'd had!
Mushy 02-22-2007, 06:07 PM Maybe they injected her with the "sickness" that Rouseau referred to so often. She just looked pasty and sick as if there was something more wrong with her than just being branded.
Lunch 02-22-2007, 06:12 PM I think she was just exhausted. She killed a guy, went on trial for it, was almost killed, but instead she got branded. She probably couldn't even sleep, especially with the placement of the burn.
Admiral Erik Pressman 02-22-2007, 06:35 PM I just re-watched the scene and I see what you mean. I think what's happening is that the camera is inside the cage, so as Juliet walks and the camera pans to the right the bars kind of "strobe" across her face. In addition the shadows on her face change as well probably from the trees (or boom-mic! ha).

Also could have been the fact that she had to hide part of the aloe plant with her leg since it wasn't actually growing there. At least I didn't see it when she was walking over.
That was my first impression of that part anyway..
myothercarisflight815 02-24-2007, 01:16 AM Burns hurt like hell. No pun intended.
