View Full Version : And the car crashed because?
MinnieVanMommie 02-28-2007, 11:39 PM I think for right now I will stick with the idea that it was located in the area of the Hatch and the Others werent allowed to go there because of the electromagnetic field....
and stay away from the drunk driving thing.....
once we get some more responses...I can do a poll...
Clochard 02-28-2007, 11:44 PM Unless we get some flashbacks from things which happened previously on the island I doubt we'll know.
And if the Others weren't allowed to go there, are you saying there are included in Dharma? Or separate from it?
If you are lumping them in with all the hatches and their tests and so on, then the other may have left it alone since it was none of their business, or had nothing to do with the business they were doing.
I'm interested to see what they found IN the van.
They found blueprints in the van of a road!
And all the "Recycling"? I wonder what that all is.
Awkward Silence 02-28-2007, 11:49 PM This is a prime example of reading too far into things on Lost. Driving a car on the rough terrain of the island isn't particularly easy. Don't expect some elaborate answer since this is one of those things that really doesn't need answering.
Clochard 02-28-2007, 11:54 PM I agree.
I don't think it will be answered.
It isn't all that important.
MinnieVanMommie 03-01-2007, 12:03 AM yet for 3 years that is what us old timers have done....and not for nothing..there have been times we have gotten answers.....In the meantime we have had sooo much fun trying to figure it all out....
Caliban2 03-01-2007, 12:08 AM I think we need to do an inventory of what was in the van.
roger
(how many bodies)
beer
I can't remember anything else, help.

My point was that there are bigger things on this show that actually do need to be focused on and analyzed, but this isn't one of them and that you'd only be wasting your time if you did.

And more interesting puzzles to solve than why the van crashed...I think this epi was simply about fun and a breather from some of the other heavier stuff going on.
SpiderFace 03-01-2007, 12:24 AM Maybe the smoke monster pushed it over? Roger WorkMan was a drunk and he wouldn't repent. You gotta show remorse to Smoky.

Thats how I feel, it was filler but I enjoyed it and Ive felt disappointed with every other filler episode so far..
MinnieVanMommie 03-01-2007, 12:30 AM ok...so now that you all dont want to talk ab out it...does anyone want to have fun with this?
not all of our analyzing has to be serious...
ame en peine 03-01-2007, 12:39 AM I'm very curious about the van... the body, the map, the recycling (was that the notebooks from the pneumatic tube??) How and why does a van come to be on an island like that?
My point was that there are bigger things on this show that actually do need to be focused on and analyzed, but this isn't one of them and that you'd only be wasting your time if you did.I'm not sure if you're aware this is the "over-analyzing" area of the internet... That's what we do here.. Maybe this isn't the right topic for you?
MinnieVanMommie 03-01-2007, 10:08 AM So what other ways could the car have crashed???
I am still on the idea that he could have possibly wandered into the area he was not supposed to be in and the electromagnetic field got him
BlackLotus 03-01-2007, 10:31 AM to me , its more interesting why no-one went out to look for roger once he had crashed and not returned.
why was the van not recovered ?
i suspect the crash could have been during the downfall of dharma and there was some other serious stuff going on so they forgot about poor roger, his van and the beer going missing.

I think that is entirely possible.
Although to be fair, a magnetic field strong enough to pull the van probably should have wiped clean the music stored on the 8-track tape. It sounded pretty clean after all of those years.
He could have crashed during the "incident".
They might explain why no one came looking for him, or if they did, they never found him. They were all busy at the time.
Maybe he was "air dropped" in and his parachute didn't open. Not enough damage to the van. Could have dropped in to hard and the crash killed him.
Could have been a Polar Bear on a Beer rampage.
He was dry and nothing was going to keep him from some suds.
One of Danielle's larger traps could have got him.
Or maybe he wasn't even there, Smokey just projected the van and Charlie and Hurley went running down the hill like the guy without a bike on the credit card commercial.
Could have been some form of Suicide. He was sick of always delivering the beer, but never getting to drink it, so it packed some up, and ran off into the jungle, never to return.
While there, he drank himself to death. Blood/alcohol content: .52.
Clearly his lucky rabbit's foot was of little value.
MinnieVanMommie 03-01-2007, 07:55 PM well, he had to have passed out or something because he was still in the car....he obviously died in the car whether or not he drove away and got into an accident drunk..there is still the idea which I would like to play around with the electromagnetic field thing...zapped him and pulled the bus over...
To say this happened during the incident I dont think would work because he was far too decomposed...
Fogey 03-01-2007, 08:57 PM Maybe the van crashed because it ran off the road?:p
I agree that a magnetic incident crashing the van would also have wiped the tape - so that's out.
James found a dart, perhaps someone shot the driver with a dart? Or he got drunk? Or he was sick from whatever disease Danielle fears? Better yet on a beer run during/after an all night party he fell asleep and crashed?
stretch 03-04-2007, 09:16 PM Speaking of the dart, I think it came from inside the hatch. They had a dart board in the rec room right? When the hatch exploded/imploded debris probably went everywhere. They will probably find more items like this from inside the hatch.
Hard to say why the car crashed in the first place though. It has very little damage, there are no broken windows(well the drivers side door window was down when Hurly pulled out Roger with Jin). Also when Hurly first looked in the front window it looked like Roger was wearing his seatbelt. Seems odd if he had the key out of the ignition.
I voting smokey had something to do with it. I heard on another thread we were going to find out more on Roger. :o
briar910 03-04-2007, 09:25 PM I think Smokey was using the Dharmamobile the same way a three year old plays with a toy car.
Alkhara 03-05-2007, 03:13 AM I'm pretty sure that there's some connection to the incident. The song is from 1973, so I think that's a big hint that the crash was 1973 or later, which ties in with the incident being pre-1980.
I don't think he did crash as such, or if he did it wasn't a major crash and he wasn't injured.Rog was on his way to the Swan - all the beer cans have the Swan logo, not just the general Dharma logo. Maybe something caused him to stop and take the keys out of the ignition and then the incident or something occurred, upturning the van and killing Rog.
One thing that bugs me is the way the body has decomposed. I'm no expert here, but he looks kind of dry and shrivelled, and he still has leathery flesh on him, a bit like a mummy. Surely in tropical conditions, hot and humid, he would decompose differently? He wouldn't dry out like that, his flesh would rot away very quickly - remember when they dug up the marshal? Or boars/polar bears/whatever would smell the decomposing body and eat it.
