"I was wrong"....."you were right"......"those pants make you look....." LOL anything with Jin and Sawyer was pure gold.

Hurley to his father : "that's disgusting!"

Sawer explaining that Roger is a Work Man, his last name isn't Workman

You make your own luck or what Hurley's father was saying.

Too many great lines to even remember; I will have to watch the eppy over again

Hurley covering his ears and yelling "No! No! No!" because that is such a realistic and genuine reaction in that situation!

And I did like his "Red... neck... man" line too. I, who used to really like Sawyer, am quickly getting sick of him so it was nice to see Hurley stick it to him (sorta!)

I loved it when Sawyer got into the van and sees the skeleton's head. lol

Sawyer- "Ah, gross. What is that?" (something like that)

Hurley- "Oh, it's Roger" (loved Sawyer's reaction when he said that!!)

:D

Sawyer drinking the beer beside Roger. Was hilarious!! Leaning on him and everything!! Too funny!

I also loved all the other lines you all have posted!! I'm so glad they made this episode into a comedy one! We all needed it before it gets tense again!

When Desmond told Sawyer they drank all of his alcohol.. this sort of reminded me of Jack Sparrow and his love for rum. "Why is all the rum gone?" LOL

Loved how Hurley had to have the headphones on because of the 'noise'. Ahhh! That makes me never want to stay over at my parents house again.

"red.....neck.....man"
"found yourself a hippie car'

This episode is full of them. Especially all the lines Sawyer was teaching Jin, especially the quip about "those pants don't make you look fat" :)

DarkTeach
03-01-2007, 10:29 AM
Agreed, there were too many to list, but I did love Hurley coming back with the "red...neck...man" line.

I also loved the look on Dom's face as Jorge was doing the "You.... red... neck... man!" You can tell he's just about to lose it and laugh... wonder how many times they had to shoot that scene before they got it without breaking up??

"Little House"
"Jumbo-tron"
"Skeletor"
"Your dad put me up to it" (She said it IMMEDIATELY after he said 10 grand, lol)
"Roger Workman"
"Let's look death in the face and say 'Whatever, man!'"

Oh, and when Sawyer was going through the beer and first saw Roger's head, his reaction was hilarious. I can't remember verbatim what he said, but it was probably something along the lines of, "What the hell is a head doing back here?!"

QueenElessar

GAH....there are just too many to mention...the humour was SO on last night1

I guess my top 5 would be:

1. Sawyer: What's Jimminy Cricket doing here? (ROFL!)

2. Sawyer: It's Work MAN...that's his JOB? (tee hee)

3. Hurley: Red...neck...man

4. Jin: Those pants don't make you look fat

5. Sawyer (I can't remember exact phrasing): What's a head doing back here? (I just knew he was going to find that rummaging for beer...LOL)

I know, that was aweosme. I actually thought she was serious until she admitted to that. And it's funny how at first she denied it ("How DARE you insult the Dark Arts!" or whatever) but she admitted to it when he reached 10 grand.

I have a feeling they'll work at least one of those lines into a future episode in an exchange with Sun. Hopefully Sawyer will be around when he says it.

Hurley on being asked why he bought the restaurant: I . . . like . . . chicken.

Aggie00
03-01-2007, 02:12 PM
Oh, that is such a good one! "I.....like.....chicken." Tricia Tanaka probably wanted to strangle him with the microphone at that point.

"Because of the way the sunlight hit Mr. Eko's stick when John was burying him." And then the smirk at the end... this was the best line for me too. just the way he said it and as you said, the smirk... this cracked me up  but Kate's face after that was priceless too.

I liked how Hurley called Tricia Tanaka by her full name.
"Sorry, Tricia Tanaka" after she yelled at him for telling a mopey story.
I also quite loved Jin's English lesson from Sawyer, "found yourself a hippie car", and "Oh, that's just Roger." This wasn't a line either, but when Sawyer bonked his beer against Roger's head, I died laughing.

For some reason my favorites were

"Stop feeling sorry for yourself becasue someone said that you're going to die."

I sent those two to my boyfriend in a text message and he was confused lol

oh and

"You're mother is very passionate."

Which was a highly disturbing line.

Loved all the ones mentioned, especially red neck man.

Charlie to Desmond: "Don't play stupid with me, brotha." I was wondering when someone was going to use that "brotha" line on Desmond. I just thought it would be Sawyer when he found his whiskey was missing.

And the overall joy from all of them in the V-dub homage to Little Miss Sunshine. It was good to smile again while watching Lost.

I like that Charlie is the only character who is returning Desmonds "brutha". It doesn't seem sarcastic anymore. I think that it's a nice link between their characters. And they are both sons of the British isles, of course.

I have nominate Sawyers "Well I'll be damned..." after Snuffy and Jiminy survived the van being pushed down the hill into the rocks. Not the most original line maybe, but I just loved Josh's delivery and his expression couldn't be more perfect.

Actually, there's a connection between the fact that Charlie and Desmond come from the UK, and that they use the term "Brother" when addressing one another. It really is more of a Scottish thing, to tell the truth. Scots nowadays (since like the 1970s) picked up the usage of this phrase in pretty much the same way that in America Black men did. In fact, my theory about it is that the Scots borrowed it from Black slang. It's not supposed tobe sarcastic or whatever, it's just how Scottish men talk to one another. I'm not sure if Charlie is Scottish, but he is receptive to calling Desmond "Brother", and having Desmond return the favor.

Charlie's from London. He's British. So is Dominic..

Okay... Thanks. I'm not sure if you're just answering a question, or what. There are a lot of Scots who live in London. He's "British", sure, but a lot of Brits have a wide mix of ancestral backgrounds that can come from all over the British Isles. There's another thing about this business with Scottish slang, too. These days in Britain there is a growing popularity among all of the various classes and cultures to affect some of the Scottish and Irish slang words in their everyday talk. From being once considered a lower form of proper communication, Irish and Scottish slang has gone full circle until today it is quite fashionable to have a good strong brogue in your speech. Some Brits have even taken up imitating it. Charlie does not speak with a brogue, but he is completely typical of most Brits nowadays in using some of the slang from Scotland.

Look at it this way, I see you're from Minnesota. Does that mean that you never use slang expressions in your everyday communication that might have originated in another part of the US? But actually, I'm really confused because I'm not sure why you posted that information about Charlie being from London to begin with...

I didn't find Sawyer's "hooked on phonics" line or any of his nicknames funny, because his constant ragging on everyone gets old. (I liked him better when it looked like he might be starting to grow a heart.) I loved Hurley's "red...neck...man", and my favorite line was "Let's look death in the face and say 'whatever man'!" Just about everything he says is hilarious in this episode.

BUT...although it isn't a line and doesn't technically apply to this thread, my favorite scene, the absolutely best "feel good" part of the show, was when the van finally started and the music came blasting out of the stereo. What a perfect song for that moment! I just loved it.

Hurley to Jin: "You don't even know what you're volunteering for!"

"We only had one channel in our trailer!"
Says so much about Sawyer in that one line.

He does well at doing an accent of a person who doesn't speak English.

What would be really funny is if Jin started speaking English with a southern accent, like Sawyer.

Oh look, you found yourself a little hippie car!
That cracked me up, too.

One of my favorites was when Hurley found Charlie on the beach, Charlie said he was just 'thinking' and Hurley said something in the way of "Sitting out on the beach, staring out at the ocean isn't thinking, it's moping." Priceless!

The saddest line to me.

But actually, I'm really confused because I'm not sure why you posted that information about Charlie being from London to begin with...

lol, sorry it's late here and I'm just heading off to bed and I guess I read it too fast or something. I just thought maybe you didn't know Dominic (Charlie) is British. My boyfriends actually Irish/Scottish. LOL Scottish accent is more similar to the British I think. Except the Scottish has a more deeper/richer accent than the British. I guess we have a slang.. we say bag' instead of 'bog' and 'pop' instead of soda.. and U betcha!! :D

Anyway, I'm sorry if I confused you. Interesting and good post you have. :)

Charlie's (Dominic's) from London. He's British/English.

He's from Manchester actually. North of England. Not too far from the Scottish borders.

 Maybe it's because I'm English but I really don't get the "hooked on the phonics" line. Would any of you yanks care to explain it to me?

He he! Okay, we'll let you in on the inside joke. "Hooked on Phonics" is the brand name of an educational system that was started back in the mid 1980s to help struggling readers learn how to read and write better. It was advertised on American and Canadian TV and other media a LOT. So it's one of those basic cultural background things. Sort of like if someone in England was to mention something about "eggs and soldiers", which 99.99% of Americans would have no clue what that meant. :)

As for Minnesota Gal, I didn't intend to make you feel uncomfortable or anything. That's really cool your husband is Scot/Irish. My wife went to school in Oxford, so I get a lot of inside information on British culture through her and some of her friends from Britain who live here in the US. I'd love to spend a couple of years living in the UK some time.

I vote for "look who's hooked on phonics." I burst out laughing when Sawyer said that!

You all have named lots of great lines. I also enjoyed Hurley to his mom right after the meteor hit...

"Tricia Tanaka is Dead" IT was the way he delivered the line. SO poignant, but
so funny. His mom's reaction was also classic.

Someday, after LOST is over and (hopefully) Hurley goes back home, he should
get his own show. it would have to be a comedy.

Have to say I just love the way Jin whoops "HURLEY!" after he has managed to get the van started. The way DDK says it just puts a smile on my face.

As you've all said, so many great lines!

Tricia Tanaka is dead!

Where's my stuff?

Victory or Death!

Look death in the face and say, whatever man!

red-neck-man!

International House of Pancakes!

Hurley! No! from Jin

I'm riding shotgun! You go, Charlie!

You know, all you need to do is say sorry.

You call it 'Little House?"

What's your problem, Jumbo tron?

I loved this episode, if only for the carmaderie between some of my favorite characters, i.e. Sawyer, Hurley, Charlie, and Jin!
