how uncool is that
(or stupid since by then hurley was a millionaire)

I cracked up at that. Johnny and Starla ran off together. Just more funny bad luck for poor Hugo.

maybe he gave his best friend a ton of money - and she knew he was cursed so took the friend and less money so she wouldn't die -
I did have to laugh at how sad that was - be a millionare and still loose the girl.

maybe they didn't run off together - maybe they are "missing"

sucks, I was kind of hoping to see more of all 3 of them in a flashback

those two were good supporting flashback characters

I don't even remember Starla (dumb name), but I do remember his best buddy treating Hurley much differently after he won the lottery; I'm not surprised that this guy ran off with Starla - they deserve each other.

um...we saw Johnny for about 2 seconds after he found out Hurley won the lottery and he was just shocked.

Starla seemed to be a cool chick in the music store who dug Hurley

Yeah, I always wanted to see more of what went down between Hurley and Johnny just after Johnny found out he won the lottery. If I had been Johnny, I think I probably would have been elated at the news rather than disappointed.

I get the feeling that this is just kind of a convenient way to write those two characters out of the story for good, but I thought they were both pretty interesting characters (in that they were "everyday" kind of folks).

I thought actually it sets up another possible whole flashback episode.

Yeah, that sucks for Hurley, but I kinda hope we get to see Starla and Johnny again.

I agree with the other poster who said that it was an easy way to get rid of those two characters (and by extension not have to worry about fitting the actors' schedules in)... The two actors that portray them have steady careers.

Awww... I think that's sad for Hurley. I thought him and Starla had something there! It's probably better, though. His "curse" probably would have ended up killing her or something anyways.

Yes, very sad for hurley!! Perhaps they took the route of "you've changed" since he won the lotto and everything. Then bonded and joined forces together against Hurley out of jealousy. that's my idea anyway!

Can't say that I agree with those saying that it was an easy way to write them off or that Johny should've been happy for Hurley.

He reacted the way he did in EHH, and that just helped reinforce (or initiated - can't say I know the stories so well either) Hurley's belief that changes are always for the worse. Hurley's lines to Rose in that episode probably reflected very well how the characters around him reacted to his fortune, and why he never really was happy with it. They're not called 'supporting' characters for nothing - they were just there to help us understand the Hurley we have now on the island.

It could've been a whole different show if the 2 had reacted differently, and I thought it was a good way to tell the viewers what happened to them, so it wouldn't be a completely loose end too. Just my 2 cents.

Perhaps they're the two who die when the deck collapses.?

It could be them or it could be anyone else, we just don't know anything about it yet.

Perhaps they're the two who die when the deck collapses.?

No, that was pre-lottery. Remember, Hurley went to the mental ward after he got depressed after the deck collapsed, and the mental ward was where he met Lenny and got the numbers.

Perhaps they're the two who die when the deck collapses.?

If we ignore everything we know about the Numbers and how they are related to Hurley's time in SRMHI, sure.
