I know it made Locke and Sayid think they knew the way to the Others' but do we know what it showed? Or is that something they're saving for later? Just wondering if I missed anything.

View Full Version : How does the light shine on Eko's stick? Lockerox 03-01-2007, 01:23 AM I know it made Locke and Sayid think they knew the way to the Others' but do we know what it showed? Remember the light shined on the part of the stick that said "Open your eyes and look North." They could find North just by looking at the position of the Sun in the sky. Carlo210 03-01-2007, 01:27 AM The light reflected off of the stick and made Locke notice the writing on it. LOST Granny 03-01-2007, 01:27 AM Right, but I'm still not sure how they connected that message with the Others' village. brermike 03-01-2007, 01:32 AM The way Sayid said it, it seemed like he was kind of making fun of Locke for "seeing" something. The Jesus Stick has some compass bearing on it "Look North 3:15" or something along those lines. I laughed out loud because it seemed like Sayid was being facetious by saying a ray of light shone on the stick and gave them a clue :) That's how I read it anyway. Jealous_Guy 03-01-2007, 01:33 AM Funny, I still have that Three Dog Night song stuck in my head and my mind was just playing over the part where they sing "How does your light shine, in the halls of Shambala" when I read the title of the thread. ame en peine 03-01-2007, 01:36 AM Funny, that's very close to the lyrics of "Road to Shambala", featured in tonight's epi twice.. "How does your light shine, in the halls of Shambala" The light shone on Ekos stick, so if John looks North will he find "Shambala" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shambhala) ETA- JG- we were typing the same thought at the same time.. GMTA.. Saukkomies 03-01-2007, 01:52 AM Funny, I still have that Three Dog Night song stuck in my head and my mind was just playing over the part where they sing "How does your light shine, in the halls of Shambala" when I read the title of the thread. Oh my gawd! You've GOT to be right! I just had the exact flashbulb go off in my head too! I'd just posted to the thread about the Shambala song, and it the song's lyrics were going through my head. And I was looking at the message board, and it just so happened that the thread for the Shambala song was listed just beneath this thread - and BINGO! I felt like a light just went off in my noggin! Holey cow! Woo Hoo! So Locke, Sayid, Kate, and Danielle are on the Road to Shambala! Damn! Except from the previews we saw of next week - it doesn't look like "everyone is happy, everyone is kind". ;) Billy Shears 03-01-2007, 02:28 AM Funny, I still have that Three Dog Night song stuck in my head and my mind was just playing over the part where they sing "How does your light shine, in the halls of Shambala" when I read the title of the thread. That's a good catch. ...and there's also the line "on the road to Shambala..." in the song that I think ties into the switchback road Roger rolled off of on his way to that Dharma facility at the top of the hill. Apparently it was the last thing that guy heard. Lockerox 03-01-2007, 09:11 AM Funny, I still have that Three Dog Night song stuck in my head and my mind was just playing over the part where they sing "How does your light shine, in the halls of Shambala" when I read the title of the thread. Yeah, that hit me immediately when Sayid something about the light shining on the stick, hence the title of this thread. I guess I need to go back and watch Locke burying Eko again. I forgot exactly what the stick said. But I think the poster who said that about Sayid being sarcastic is right. Sayid is skeptical and cynical. It's like he's humoring Locke maybe by going along with his spiritual mumbo jumbo quest. BlackLotus 03-01-2007, 10:09 AM it was 'lift up your eyes and look north, which locke took to be a 'sign' from the island on what to do next. if you remember, the stick fell on locke's head ( nearly ) when he woke up in the jungle after the hatch ex/implosion, you could see the inscription then too. but locke didnt notice it untill he had retrieved the stick in order to put put it on eko's grave. babygotbackgammon 03-01-2007, 11:21 AM Also I think 3:15 doubles not just as a psalm number but also as a compass bearing. Do the compasses work correctly now though with the EM anomaly imploded? IStoleCindy 03-01-2007, 12:06 PM I think the light shines into one of Locke's ears, and out of the other. He believes it said "Lift up your eyes and look North, John" But the 'John 3:05' bit is a completely separate reference, something about getting into heaven. The 'Look North' quote is Genesis 13:14. And, interestingly, the full quote is "Lift up your eyes and look North, South, East and West..." So John's utter certainty about where he should be going is based on an incomplete quote, and the fact that he has the same name as someone who wrote an unconnected part of the Bible. It almost sounds like Eko calling for Locke's help when he was attacked by the monster. "Look up here, John!" And the number refers to the episode number? "No, John, you were supposed to lift up your eyes last episode: 3:05! It's too late now" Dezdmona 03-01-2007, 03:46 PM I love the Shambala analogy, but there is also an Indiana Jones analogy in there when the light shone on the Staff of Ra on the maproom (http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/2161/340pxmaproomen1.jpg) to point the way to the Ark of the Covenant. lostoholic 03-04-2007, 02:45 AM I just enjoyed the song! Laughing at Hurley. Didn't think about the light "connection". Love it. People go too deep with the simple stuff:) . The stick said Look North John 305 That means hold the compass to point north and go to 305 on the compass. In my other post-- http://www.thefuselage.com/Threaded/showthread.php?t=71313 (which the moderator moved for inexplicable reasons)..I show the blueprint map also leads there. Maybe that I answered this question too --this thread will get moved:) SpoonFork 03-04-2007, 06:41 PM So John's utter certainty about where he should be going is based on an incomplete quote, and the fact that he has the same name as someone who wrote an unconnected part of the Bible. You're using a logic that disappears when you enter this show. That means hold the compass to point north and go to 305 on the compass. IStoleCindy 02-16-2008, 03:07 AM You're using a logic that disappears when you enter this show. No, I'm not. I think it still applies that John's certainty that his is the correct path could still turn out to be incorrect. Sayid could be right just as much as John could be. |
