So this Roger dude...was he drinking and driving? Did he crash into a big rock or a fallen tree or something? The van seemed to be surrounded by overgrown vines, but I couldn't tell if there was something there he crashed into. Maybe someone shot him for running off with their beer.
However he died, it must not have been instantly, because he managed to take the keys out of the ignition and put them on his wrist. Or, maybe he crashed because his arm was keychained to the ignition.
I imagine we are supposed to suspend disbelief here for effect. Hurley made the comment about being cursed and unlucky and how death surrounds him, just as Vincent shows up with a dead guys arm and a lucky rabbits foot.
But really, how did the keys get on the guys arm?

Maybe the guy parked, took the keys out of the ignition and put them around his wrist.
Then Smokey showed up and reached inthe open window and killed him.
Or he got out of the van, drank a few beers and then "the incident" happened and he scrambled into the van, but before he could get the key back off his wrist so he could start the van, something flipped the van over and he was killed.
Other than that, I have no idea. :)

The keychain bothers me just a little. Picky, I know.. But would it be in such good shape after being next to a decomposing body in a humid jungle... (okay I'll stop now)
I did notice that the keychain is a subtle clue to Hurley's thinking he is cursed. The rabbit foot didn't appear to be all that lucky for the skletal man... I took that as a clue that there's no such thing as curses, such as Hurley's..

Have we heard a rabbit's foot mentioned on the show before?

OK guys....Let me be the first to say that this whole keychain conspiracy is us acting just a touch picky.
I mean, come on, the keychain could have gotten on his wrist a thousand different ways. Have you ever rolled a VW bus? Ok, me neither, but I'm sure it would result is some banging around in the drivers seat. Or maybe Vincent caused it when he was ripping of Rog's arm...lol.
The point is, lets not be ridiculous. I wonder if any other TV show in the history of the world was ever scrutinized so closely.

Roger is clutching the rabbit's foot hoping for good luck that he'll be saved.

I agree with bagelsandlockes (cool name by the way) that there could be many different ways that the keychain got on his wrist. I do love that every aspect of the show is discussed though. I have to say though that I don't think it's ridiculous that we talk about every single minute detail. I think that's what makes this show excellent and this board excellent. The fact that we love to pick apart every piece of the show and talk about it as often as possible!!!

Wasn't the van's door closed, too? How did Vincent get the arm out of the van? Did he open the door, take the arm and then close the door again?

I just noticed the driver's door window was open. But I also noticed Roger had his seatbelt on when Hurly was first looking in the front window. They didn't deal with it though when Jin helped Hurly pull roger out the window. hmmm......:undecide:
