Don't know if this was mentioned yet, but when the guys started to push the Volkswagon, I started giggling because of its apparent shot out to the flick. I dont know who would be who, but I think Sawyer would make a pretty good Abigail Brensen

I'm not sure about that. I've ridden many a mile in a VW bus and the first thing to pop into my head upon seeing the VW was that if they could flip it and push it to a hill they could pop the clutch. I've pushed more than once and had to hop in. :biggrin:But could be! I grinned seeing that in LMS, too......Ahhh good times.

yeah, if you've ever driven one of those, you end up pushing it and popping the clutch A LOT.

it's kind of a ritual you endure if you ever drive one.

i'm just wondering if the gas would have went bad after all that time?

it's a very fun vehicle, but get ready to push, jump in and pop many a time.

I didn't make the connection, but then again I hated LMS. For some reason that movie made me think of Adventures in Babysitting which was a much better movie.

Little Miss Sunshine for sure...

Here's the players... I spoiler-fonted for those that haven't seen the movie

Hurley = Dad (Let's go to California!)

Charlie = Mom (Alright, alright.. let's go...)

Sawyer = Suicidal Proust Scholar Uncle (Well-read, loathes life)

Jin = Quiet Nephew (Very quiet, but I'd bet on the edge of explosion)

Dharma Skelton found in back of bus = Grampa (both dead)

Little Miss Sunshine = ?

I almost thought that the writers had taken a break - watched LMS - and then got back to work with LMS on their brains. Sure it was cute, but a little too coincidental. I hate to bash my own gender, but wasn't this epi written by women? If so, you could tell.

I really didn't think of LMS until I read this thread. I suppose it's possible, but isn't that pretty much what anyone does with a standard when it doesn't start?

Not to be OT, but thank God I'm not the only one. I had some problems with the movie as well. I'd much rather watch quirky movies like Best In Show or Waiting For Guffman than LMS. LMS seemed like it was trying to hard to be quirky.

And to try to be on topic....yeah, popping the clutch is common and has been around long before LMS.

Memories for me too....my DH & I had a green & white van - it was so much fun to ride in. Many times hubby had to pop the clutch. I never drove it cuz he hadn't taught me to drive stickshift on that nutsy thing but if he did I surely would have had to pop it after he pushed. It only did 65 mph tops & I almost gave birth to my 2nd kid sprawled on the far back seat...we needed to travel a good 25 niles or so to the hospital & each time we hit a bump I had another dang labor pain! aaaah Yes - such good memories & ones of frustration too but I wish I had that thing parked back in my driveway. I miss it. ;)

hmmm not sure why one could tell the epi may have been written by a woman. If so then I say bring on more women writers cuz IMO it was a really good one!

As far as the coincidence to the van in LMS I don't think so. The Dharma project began in the '70's and the VW van was popular back in those halcyon days so why not have a functional vehicle to get around the island in?. Maybe one day we'll see a flashback with it in it - a brand spanking shiny new hippie van tooling around on one of those roads that ws on the map that Sawyer found.

Who would play who in a re-enactment?
Jin - Paul Dano - Neither speak much English
Charlie - Alan Arkin - herion addict, dead as a doornail
... that's all I got
