View Full Version : Locke, Sayid - what took you so long?!

Okay remember how back in ep3 when Locke made a stirring speach about how he was gonna rescue Jack, Kate and Sawyer and bring them home? And remember how Sayid came back to the beach and seemed keen to make up for his botched boating mission?

Well...what the hell were Locke and Sayid waiting for?!!

While they have been lazing around the beach, Kate and Sawyer have rescued themselves. And after stopping for a 5 minute breather at the beach, the unstoppable Kate is off again to rescue Jack. And only now do Locke and Sayid get their ***** in geer!

Sigh. It's not Locke and Sayid fault. The writers have been neglecting them. But I'm annoyed it has taken them this long to get on with their rescue.

I really think they were at a loss for a while. As soon as Sayid returned, Eko went missing. They dealt with that at the same time they went to Pearl station to try and find their friends or get a clue as to where to look. Then Eko died and they had to bury him. At the funeral, Locke finally gets a clue what direction to go in to search and rescue. They return to tell everyone about Eko and Claire almost drowns. Then Kate and Sawyer return the very next day. I really think time moved pretty quickly and with everything else that was happening they didn't get the chance.

Now they have a compass bearing, they have Kate's knowledge and Danielle's help and they are in a much better position to be successful than if they had just gone off into the jungle without any idea where they were going. Sayid knew Yurtville was a decoy and that's the only location they knew.

Um, they addressed it in last nights episode. They had the desire but didn't know where to look.

Had they left after Locke's speech, It would have been Locke, Nikki, Hurley, and Naked Desmond. They would have reached the Pala Ferry (the only destination they had to go on) and found nothing but Sayid's smoke signal. They would have no choice but to return to the beach empty handed, only to find Eko dead, a Charlie-ka-bob (from the lightning), and a drowned Clair. An argument would then have ensued between Locke, Sayid, and Desmond ending with them all dead.

Instead, thanks to Locke's clever stalling, they now have a rescue party comprised of Locke, Sayid, Kate (who knows about Othersville), a compass heading, and Danielle the millitant french nut.

There is something to be said for procrastination. :)

You nailed it. Case closed. Plus, we have to mention that Jack, Sawyer and Kate weren't on the other island all too long. Possibly a couple of days. The reason it seems more drawn out is because it took us 3 episodes to get through the operating room drama. That all happened around the same time that Hurley would be getting back from the dock.

Yeah, 3 episodes over 3 months!
I think the hiatus has made it feel as if J/K/S were on Alcatraz for weeks rather than days.

It's like Book III, IV, & V of LOTR.
At the end of FOTR, Frodo and Sam head to Mordor, and Aragorn, Gimli, & Legolas head off after Merry and Pippin.

Book III picks up with Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas's hunt for the hobbits to Fangorn, meeting Gandalf the White, going to Meduseld, healing Theodin, riding to the Hornburg, the battle of Helm's Deep, the Seige of Isengard, the Palantir, and finally Gandalf and Merry riding to Minas Tirith.
Then you turn the page, only to find yourself back with Frodo and Sam in Book IV taming Smeagol and going to the Dead Marshes, the Black Gate, to Ithilien and Ammon Hen, then the Crossroads, to Minas Morgol up the stairs, through Shelob's Lair and finally to Frodo getting captured by the Orcs.

These events are told seperately, but are congruent. Any sence of inconsistency lies firmly in the mind of the reader, or in the case of LOST, the viewer.

Its also like the Harry Potter books, they come out every two+ years and we have been waiting for how long now to get the last book just for 7 years of his life. and it still will be a few more months before we even get it.

jimbo75 & missioni - I think it's kind of akward how Locke words this statement, but he actually says to Kate that she's right about their motivation (meaning they didn't have enough) but she's wrong about them knowing where to look (meaning they actually do know where to look). If you watch it again I'm sure you'll agree.

Now that they actually are about to do it, I can't wait to see Sayid in action again. He's truly the show's hero in that particular regard, and it looks like next week's fight scene is going to be pretty good.
