I guess I am crazy, but in the beginning of the episode i swear I saw a white small smoke circle, about the size of Hurley's head, right next to him. Did anyone else see this?

Probably just Cheech's joint! -- Sorry couldn't resist! I didn't notice any smoke but will pay attention next time I watch it, which will prolly be in about five minutes!

Ha. It was in the jungle not in the driveway.

I saw it too, but just figured it was the angle of light from the camera lens

I saw it too. my girlfriend thought it was a lens effect, but it moved with Hurley while the shot remained stationary.

Definitely there..a white puff as he's following Vincent into the Jungle.

Here's (http://gallery.lost-media.com/displayimage.php?album=1258&pos=85) a screen cap of it, but that doesn't really tell us if its moving or not.

Whoops! Too Slow!! LOL

Oh wow!
So much for this episode having very little to read into!
That's certainly a contradiction of "smokey" to be sure!

I think it was part of the bush in front of the camera.

Clochard

It wouldn't have been edited out then?

Dagnabbit, I want to believe it's "good Smokey," so I'm going to. Hurley has been judged and found worthy!

Haha, I was just going to say..
Hurley's past doesn't seem all that...'dark'?
I mean all the death wasn't his fault, necessarily, and he honestly wanted to find a solution.
I think Hurley is the most "good guy" character we have so far.

Hurley + Smokey = BFF's

That's what I'm going to think too until proven wrong.

It's a smudge on the camera lens.

MOD, please close this thread since I've answered the mystery.

I noticed it too, but assumed it was a drop of water on the camera lens. That's what it looks like.

Fairly certain it's part of the plant in the foreground. It wasn't edited out for the same reason the rest of the plant wasn't.

It moved far to smoothly with the camera to be smokey, or any version of smokey.

Kind of looks like a drop of water on the camera lens.

Yeah, definitely looked like a dirty camera lens

the still makes it look like a camera problem, but if you watch the scene in video (not stills) the camera is nearly stationary, and hurley is moving. the splotch (whatever it is) moves with hurley and _not_ with the camera.

I see what you're saying, but if it was relevant, surely it could be seen on some other camera angles, not just that one?

angra
03-01-2007, 03:44 PM
Probably :). I'm not claiming it's relevant....just that it doesn't seem consistent with a camera/lens artifact.

It appears to be an unintentional camera artifact.

Yes! Thank you! I saw that and it was the first thing that came to my mind - instead of a black swirling mass full of the faces of victims (what Eko saw in the smoke), it looks like it might almost be ... :ducking and running here: angelic?

All kidding aside, Hurley is a pure soul. He has flaws, wounds, he gets angry, but at heart he's really pure. He and the Island have "an understanding..." ;)

All actors say it, a scene is shot over and over again until they get it right. And I think after watching every scene and seeing the smudge on the lens I think they would have done something about it, especially with a big show like Lost, everything has to be perfect. Unless they did see it and left it on there so they could laugh at all of our reactions when we presume it's the white smoke.

Was looking into the "ask gregg nations" section and someone asked this question. Nations said that it was just a leaf that the sun was hitting.

I think they can add easter eggs and hidden clues without it being as ridiculously hidden or subtle as this. Definitely a dirty lens.

Dirty lens, people. It's a water spot.

I think it's safe to say that, lately, the directors/writers aren't putting in the good 'ole Dharma clues in to the show any longer.

What do you call the veritable wave of easter eggs in Flashes Before Your Eyes? I'd call a few of them clues...and the map/blueprint in this episode...so yeah. I've been seeing clues.

As for the white dot, I saw it the first time, started the scene over...it seems to just be part of the plant, out-of-focus. D:

This is going the same direction as the "red blinking dot thingie" that showed up at the beggining of this eason.

This has now been confirmed by Gregg Nations.

yeh i saw that right off the bat and hit the rewind. It simply came across to me as a reflection of some kind, a camera/hardware/lighting issue. Still its important that the question is raised and answered so we know for sure. I am glad it has been cleared up.
