So, Claire was wishing that her mother would die. And then her mother just happens to [almost] die.

Could this be similar to Juliet's situation with her ex-husband? I don't know if Claire was in contact with anybody from Mittelos, but it could be a possibility.

I am curious about the statement that Christian made in the hospital to Claire about being notified of the accident while the Mother was still in surgery.

This comment alone reeks of a Mittletoes connection, IMHO.

Be careful what you wish for...

yeah, that came to mind when she said that.
Though she said that in the car to her mom -- we don't have proof that she said that to anyone else.

Even though she didn't say it to anyone else, this may be a hint that the losties' wishes in the real world might be more powerful than normal, hence Walt's seeming powers.

Yeah. Claire could have super mind powers.

Or maybe, it's just really creepy and shocking for the audience to see something like that happen, even though it was just a coincidence.

I thought of Walt, too. And is it coincidence that this episode also focused on birds, when the episode that really showcased Walt's special gift had a bird slamming into the window?

That is an excellent question, one that nobody (here) knows the answer to.

I believe that Mittelos is a front for someone who has taken over the Island (and most of the DHARMA facilities), with the help of at least one of the Island natives (Ben), who I believe are the real Hostiles.

Personally, I think Widmore's behind it all, but that's just my guess.
