View Full Version : The Map
South Shore 03-15-2007, 12:15 AM The map that Sayid was using in tonight's episode was an "electrical wiring map". At the risk of sounding extremely naive, what wiring is being mapped?
100%
I was also wondering if anyone caught what Dharma symbol was on the map. I didn't note what station it may have been from. Was there even a logo in the middle at all?
Rfire 03-15-2007, 01:48 AM I see references to subterranean passages. Interesting.

w4rrior 03-15-2007, 01:50 AM yea i smell a jail break.....get it.. they'll probably have to go through the sewers

Yes..for sure, they use that passage to go under the security fence
SpiderFace 03-15-2007, 02:08 AM Hey thanks for that screencap Rfire! I was very disappointed last week when they showed 2 tiny parts of the map that revealed basically nothing. Now we get to see a little more! hooray!
ETA- too bad Sayid's thumb is covering up the key/legend thing
mrain01 03-15-2007, 07:36 AM Lost Media only posted one view of the map, which is unfortunate. Lost Cubit didn't post either one.
There was a view of the map in the woods, and then again when they reached the fence.
There are numbers on the map. The Barracks area is "5" and there is another area to the right, assumedly the Flame, which is labeled "6".
Hopefully, someone else will come up with both screencaps.
piscescat 03-15-2007, 08:18 AM I would think they'll have to disable the sonic fence if they're going to get back to the beach... Knowing where the wiring runs will be helpful.
LarryJ 03-15-2007, 08:35 AM I would like to know where the power comes from
very-lost 03-15-2007, 08:54 AM The power required to operate the mega-huge pet fence has to be huge.
Threzor 03-15-2007, 09:19 AM This map shows numerous subterranean passages, which brings up all sorts of questions about the others, the other Others, whispers, the island in general, etc., etc., etc. ...

Dmcquickly 03-15-2007, 09:37 AM Back to the original question: The wiring is the wiring between all the "hatches"--Dharma stations.
What I found curious was that Sayid did not seem to recognize a power source on the map. You'd have thought he'd have said, "And here is there power station" if he'd seen it. So the location of the power source remains unknown.
Underground passages would work for the wiring as well as movement. And maybe water pipes?

Regrettably, these screencaps still don't show all that was shown on air. I can see more at slowmo on my VCR (but alas not in hi-def).
The first map scene in the woods panned from further right - from the Flame area showing the number "6".
One would have to think these "area numbers" would have some significance. Are they hatch number related? It appears not, since the Pearl was station 5 of 6.
hugh jasse 03-15-2007, 03:25 PM I see references to subterranean passages. Interesting.

that could be very interesting to those in the thread discussing the security system and how the others can pass through it, ie ethan and goodwin when they were dispatched, and ben and his gang coming and going.
GreatHeights 03-15-2007, 05:04 PM So, I was taking a look at the blast door map and I was thinking, maybe the "hatches" that are scratched out on the Blast door map are controlled by the Hostiles, and the reason why the underground passages from the other hatches have been blocked is to restrict access from these people who live underground.
Subotai 03-15-2007, 06:25 PM Can someone refresh my memory: Was there a tunnel in the Pearl or the Arrow hatches?
very-lost 03-15-2007, 07:45 PM Unfortunately we never got a chance to see very much of those stations :frown:
MellonCollie 03-15-2007, 07:56 PM So, I was taking a look at the blast door map...
I was just looking at it too. :D I noticed a reference to a "Security barrier" at the top of the map.
"....No stations past security barrier" and just below that "...- Why a Dharmatel Intranet presence past this border?"

GreatHeights 03-16-2007, 11:53 AM Can someone refresh my memory: Was there a tunnel in the Pearl or the Arrow hatches?
They never showed enough of them for us to know, but according to the blast door map, all of the hatches seem to have tunnels that have been blocked off like the one in the Swan. I hope that once Kate, Sayid an Co. leave the Barracks (presumably through these tunnels) they will end up revealing what ever is between the hatches.

I don't think we're really getting off topic. I think its important to consider that the underground passages mentioned on Sayid's Dharma map almost certainly have to open out into one of the hatches (perhaps the scratched out ones) on the Blast Door map. I'd be really interested to see what a comparitive analysis of the three maps we've seen so far would yield.
