View Full Version : Poor Sawyer, just pining away....
lostnthesoutheast 03-15-2007, 12:32 AM Why doesn't he do something??? No one back at the beach saw the smoke or heard a rumble from the Flame Station explosion? I was really hoping that Sawyer would see it and would worry and then head out after Kate and the gang. Just wishful thinking, I suppose.
Save The Humans 03-15-2007, 12:34 AM The Flame Station was two days' walk from Beach Camp. I sincerely doubt anyone heard the big boom!
Besides, it's better drama for him to angst about her NOT knowing what's happening.
Saukkomies 03-15-2007, 12:37 AM BTW, what was the book he was reading?
CobraKai 03-15-2007, 12:38 AM The Fountainhead
Pinjo 03-15-2007, 12:40 AM Nah, Sawyer's had enough screentime this season. Besides, the last thing I wanted to see was a triangle plot line dragging down a Claire episode.
lostgurl 03-15-2007, 12:46 AM Why go after Kate? He knows she wont listen to him anyways. She's as stubborn as he is. Their bickering would probably get them both killed.

It's by Ayn Rand and is an amazing read. http://www.aynrand.org/site/PageServer?pagename=objectivism_fiction

Correct. It's a great book, tho I think it would have been more intriguing if he'd been reading Atlas Shrugged: the mysterious John Galt moving behind the scenes, unseen but shaping so much of the first 2/3 of that book = Jacob? The hidden Galt's Gulch = our island?
The 2nd Otokage 03-15-2007, 12:52 AM Poor Sawyer is just a big, sorry teddy bear inside, who just doesn't know how to apologize.
He has those puppy dog eyes that make women just want to hug you to their bosom and hush you and tell you that everything is gonna be ok.
Unfortunately, Super Kate does not fall for his masculine wiles so easily.
lostNblonde 03-15-2007, 01:04 AM Correct. It's a great book, tho I think it would have been more intriguing if he'd been reading Atlas Shrugged: the mysterious John Galt moving behind the scenes, unseen but shaping so much of the first 2/3 of that book = Jacob? The hidden Galt's Gulch = our island?
And are the Other's actually removing the great scientific minds from society?
I think Atlas Shrugged would have been the obvious choice too, which is exactly why I think TPTB picked The Fountainhead. Although it is very fitting also if you look at it from a philosophical point of view. From The Ayn Rand Institute website about The Fountainhead:
Its theme: "individualism versus collectivism, not in politics, but in man's soul;
Sorry if this double posts. I'm having some network problems.
LostLaura 03-15-2007, 01:05 AM I thought it was a nice backburner minor, minor plot for Sawyer. He's worried about Kate, but he's still reading, and he's not getting involved in the Par Avion plotline. It was simple and easy and good. And he did have the good line when he couldn't call Claire "Barbie." Hee.
Save The Humans 03-15-2007, 01:13 AM Really, it made sense. There was nothing going on that James WOULD be inclined to be involved in. And, in total character, when he didn't want to be involved, he just set himself apart from everyone. (Which, I suspect, suits everyone just fine.)
The conversation interested him--until he remembered the no-nicknames thing, and thus, could not approach the chat in his normal snarky way. Thus, he disconnected himself from it.
I think he both is worried over Kate AND is increasingly regretting that, in his self-loathing, that he cannot allow himself to be more involved. But that means stuff like being vulnerable, and having people think he's helpful/nice would not inflict the "punishment" he, himself, has judged he must always suffer (for becoming the man who conned his folks, which led to his parents' deaths).
His self-loathing is increasingly eating away at him. Won't surprise me to see this development be looked into more in the future.
bigshowmt 03-15-2007, 01:25 AM hasn't kate had just as much screentime as sawyer..im sry that doesnt make since..i agree that he needs to be in the background for a lil bit but hopefully by kates episode or episode 16 he will be back in action and kickin butt..the last two years hes been involved in some action scenes in the season finale and i expect the same thing this year.

jasoncountdown 03-15-2007, 02:10 AM I was really hoping that Sawyer would see it and would worry and then head out after Kate and the gang.My absolute worst nightmare for the next few episodes is Sawyer and Hurley hopping into the dharma van and coming to the rescue and ruining any quality drama with their overdose of campy hilarity. Oh god please no.
lostNblonde 03-15-2007, 10:04 AM What if Sawyer becomes Craphole Island's resident radical Objectivist? Best. Series. Ever.
LOL and you said I gave tptb too much credit. Seriously though, I dont' see Sawyer ever being like Roark. Sawyer is too in need of acceptance. He's still a little boy that needs to be loved and doesn't know how to get the attention he needs except by being a jerk. Negative attention is better then being ignored.
In all honesty, I think 98% of the people who watched the show thought "Oh look, Sawyer's reading another book" and that's the end of it. The rest of us look too deep into everything and this is no different. By the way, you compairing Lost to a trainwreck made me think of Atlas Shrugged all over again.
