Christian is obviously a very important part of the flashbacks. He has been in more than any non-Lostie. (and when i think about it, he may have been in more than any actual Lostie too)

We are slowly seeing his connections to more and more characters. Ana Lucia, Jack, Sawyer now Claire. He has this 'great' quality to him and seems to know a lot a bout things like 'greatness' 'hope' 'faith' 'false hope'


jack heard his voice through an intercom. a non functioning intercom that later worked when he heard Alex's voice.

he has appeared on the island in a mysterious, smoke monster type way.


He can easily have ties to medical foundations and research projects. He may have even been trying to suggest to claire to let him take her mother (perhaps to this island). He can also be a 'good man, a great man, but not a forgiving man' as Ben pointed out.


Lastly, he is Jack's father. The desire to bring him to this island, possibly to succeed him as he groomed him to be a great leader all his life could be why Jack is in this situation right now.
