Hey, All,

First time poster. First time visiting the site, so if this has been posted elsewhere, forgive me and don't kill me.

Regarding the beacon: Wasn't there a cable that went from the sea to Rousseau's hideout that Sayid followed to get there? Didn't "Patchy" mention the underwater beacon?

I'm gathering that this was the cable for the beacon.

If there was this underwater beacon with a cable coming out across the beach all the way to Rousseau's hideout, they must have known about her, right?

So either they had one of those deals along the lines of "Stay away and don't bother us and we won't bother you," or she might be an Other. Or Ben hasn't killed her because she's Alex's mother. Just throwing it out there.

Thanks.

First of all, welcome! Glad you're here!

Didn't the cable just run into the woods and Sayid got trapped along the way?

What if when danielle blew her house up, it ruptered the cable? Maybe thats why Ben didn't get off the island for the surgery. Maybe that was the start of trouble for our Others?

One end of the cable did indeed run into the ocean. I think it was Hurley who followed that same cable into the jungle where it eventually went down into the jungle floor. The spot at which it did this was not above Danielle's hideout. I was in the vicinity, however.

Patchy explained on last weeks episode that the cable that ran into the water was for the underwater sonar becon that was used for navigation by the submarine.

One thing doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the other (no pun intended). Besides, Sayid was only trapped near the cable, so Rousseau's camp may not have been very close to the cable. Regardless, it is doubtful that they would have been checking the cable if everything was in working order, which it was until the sky turned purple and all communication got fried due to the EMP. Just my thoughts!
