View Full Version : Why can't we all just get along?

So, the Others had this scary, all-knowing, could-be-anywhere, super-strength, kill without remorse, sneaky, frightening and mysterious aura about them. Ethan was a spy, hanged Charlie, kidnapped Claire, beat the crap out of Jack, killed Scott (or Steve?) and threatened the entire camp. Then, the Others show up on a boat and take Walt, blow up the raft, all without regard for the lives of Jin, Sawyer, and Michael. From the Tailies, we learned that they would sneak into camp, steal children and other people.

Then we learned that the savage, homeless look is just an act. They were hiding something. They live in a small suburban like town. They have bicycles, houses, electricity, freakin' book club meetings....

Clearly, once the Others have taken people, they seem to convert them. Cindy is the prime example of this. When Jack saw her, she was not scared, or worried. She was calm. The Others has explained their situation to her and she understood(?). Now, apparently, the same has happened to Jack. He's all chummy with the Others, and, assuming it isn't an act to gain their trust, they must have let Jack in on their secret as well.

Point is, if in order for everyone (Losties + Others) to get along and stop this battle that's resulted in several deaths, all the Others have to do is tell the Losties what's going on. Like Cindy and Jack, I think everyone would say "Oh yeah, that's understandable. Boy, do I feel silly..." Personally, I have NO IDEA what the Others could say to make Cindy and Jack be friends with them after the things they've done, but who knows.

So, what's the deal? if it's that simple, why not just let everyone in on it? Because they're not on The List? Neither was Jack and he seems to be doing just fine.

Thoughts?

The Soviets believed America and its allies were terminally flawed, yet they were ultimately forced to recognize some sort of treaty or peace pact with "the other side". I think that to this end, Jack, as a leader, is the the "beach city's" diplomat and though captive, is doing his best to reach a political detente with the Hostiles. Hence his socializing with Tom, and allowing himself to fall romantically for Juliet. Ben's love for Juliet has already prevented her being executed, and indeed, possibly Jack himself. His story to Kate on the walkie-talkie obviously affected the "Others" who heard it quite profoundly. Once Kate understands this, and other things, she may be more willing to make a non-aggresion agreement with "The Hostiles" in time, provided Ben (or Jacob?) is willing to meet the Fusies halfway.
