View Full Version : I HATE Anthony Cooper

I have never hated a fictional character more than Anthony Cooper. (OK... maybe that's an overreaction to a very intense episode.) But if TPTB wanted to create the ultimate villain, they did it. After everything he'd done... to actually push his son out a window... I'm just boiling.

I totally agree. Actually, I might hate him even more than you do.

I think they should have Sayid torure him to death...(joking).......

CR, I think that's what they want you to feel.

I, on the other hand, couldn't have cared less about the first few scenes with Cooper (before the confrontation). I'm a bit done with him as a flashback character.

Of course, him being on the island is a TOTALLY different matter.

I'm going to just lump Anthony Cooper in as one of the most evil TV characters ever.

He pretty much ruined Locke's life up until Locke got on the Island.

I teared up when Locke was presented with the wheelchair after the accident and the more I thought about it, I just felt sort of really sad....I mean think about it....someone steals your kidney and then ruins the best relationship you ever had....and then paralyzes you. Jeeheez...

My mom kept saying how much she hated him. This episode did a great job creating some sympathy for Locke which is necessary when he's doing crazy things like blowing up subs and killing people.

But yeah, that last scene with Locke and the wheelchair was heartbreaking. Poor guy :( I even thought the scenes with him eating his TV dinners alone in his small apartment were really sad.

It becomes easy to see why he prefers the island despite its dangers; it's still 100% better than his life in the real world.

Yeah CR, don't blame you for hating on Cooper. Personally, I didn't have too large of a reaction and am not surprised he tried to kill Locke, it goes along with everything else he has done.

.someone steals your kidney and then ruins the best relationship you ever had....and then paralyzes you. Jeeheez...

I definitely felt sorry for Locke after the Kidney incident, that was tragic. The other two situations, I think are more debatable because Locke had the option to walk away and arguably he kept coming back and putting himself in a situation to conned and hurt.

I couldn't have felt more sorry for Locke than I did when he was put into that wheelchair, it was heartbreaking. I agree, Locke's life on the island is about as polar opposite than it was in his real life.

As far as Cooper goes, I'm sure there are people who are that heartless, but I can't imagine hurting people so intentionally like that. It's like he has no conscious at all.

I was so hoping Locke would whip a gun out from nowhere and pop one right into Cooper's forehead when they opened that door. It would've been so shockingly anti-climactic that it really would've worked. That two seconds of action would've allowed us to completely dodge around the inevitable story arc that is going to ensue now that Cooper's on the island.

Frankly, I'd just prefer him dead.

wow, Anthony really is a bastard! Just when I thought Ben and Widmore were the most awesome evil villains, along comes Cooper!

It's amazing. As a person, Cooper is horrible. I hate him.
But I think his character is really interesting, especially now that he is on the island.

Locke, on the other hand, is a sad character. One who does interesting things. But whose plots I almost always hate (I loved tonight's, though). And I HATE his character.
I hate his character so much more than I hate Cooper's. But I guess that's just because of what types of characters I prefer.

Does that make me a bad person? ;)

I kind of wish Ethan was still alive so he could go head to head with Cooper.

Possible Lost spinoff:

Ethan & Cooper

Pre-Island days, Anthony Cooper meets Ethan Rom at a 7-11 when both of them are reaching for the last blue Gatorade. Ethan is impressed when Anthony cons him out of the blue Gatorade and wants to learn the art. Hijinks and high action ensue as Ethan, a young med school student, teams up with Anthony, an aging con-man, and learns how to pick pockets, nab a free kidney, and seduce rich widows.

I hate him too but I'm thinking the worst possible thing for Locke would be to have that man on the island too. What is Locke supposed to do now? Kill him? I think if he killed his father it would break that special connection he has to the island. I don't think Locke could kill his own father.

If any man needed to have a slow lingering death, it's this man. I hope his body rejects the kidney.

I think Locke needs to take Cooper to Smokie and let Smokie have at him!
I'd like to see Smokie toss Cooper up into the air then slam him down on
the ground like what happened to Mr. Eko.

Same here, and I specifically want to see Locke dish it out. I hope he doesn't forgive him and try to make him become a good father again, we've seen enough of Locke falling for his tricks.

Locke didn't think twice about killing Patchy. Why would he hesitate to kill a man he hates; however I think the man will be killed but not by the hands of Locke.

But the difference is that he has no past history with Patchy and he does with his father, even if they are all bad. I think Locke wouldn't be able to so easily cold bloodedly kill his father. I think deep down he just wants his dad back, the one that was so loving when they first met.

Cooper fascinates me; a lifetime of conning has hardened him to everything. If what we do really does shape us, he's been pretty misshappen. Yes, Smokie should have fun with him.

Please, TPTB, do NOT have Sayid torture him. Enough with Sayid torturing.

I think Locke should help Cooper escape and once they clear camp, Locke could simply point the way and let Cooper run into the fence on his own. :)

LOL but Cooper would probably read Locke's con and decide to throw Locke into the fence. Like Father, Like son!

I really think that having Cooper on the island is just going to ruin everything Locke has now - confidence, a strange form of happiness. I just think that Cooper can break Locke no matter if he's tied up in a room, or roaming free in the real world. Lock will crumble.

I absolutely agree here. I think one reason Locke came back so strong after he learned he could walk was that he was "free" of his father...at least for a little while. When Ben conned him into doubting the numbers, I thought Locke became noticeably weaker--I think it's got to do with how he responds to his father. And I think Ben was right on about why Locke wanted to blow up the sub. So what does he do? He turns around and shows Locke probably the very last person he ever wanted to see again. Ben is not trying to help Locke. Maybe he figures if Locke breaks, he'll either give up the secret to Ben (so he can walk again) or at the very least became paralyzed again and no longer be one up on Ben.

It's going to be SO awesome. It's about time Cooper's actions caught up with him. He ruined Sawyer's family, he stole Locke's kidney, he separated Helen and Locke and then he crippled Locke.. oooh, this is too awesome. The best thing about this is that Cooper's been around since Season One. And now they bring him on the island. This is... LOVING IT.
