The first thing that came to my mind.. Especially that people tend to prefer white meat to dark.

Up until today, I truly believed Lost was a show that was impossible to overanalyze. Thanks to everyone in this thread for opening my eyes to a brand new truth! :)

I think that depends where you are in the world, but it is generally true in the Western world.

I did find it interesting that Ben said this to John. Especially since John first broached the subject of Light versus Dark teaching Walt to play Backgammon. However, the great irony to me is that Ben mentions at the end of season two that they(The Others) "are the good guys" yet seems quite pleased with himself for eating the dark meat.

When Locke mentioned chicken I thought Ben was going to tell him, "Oh no, that's not chicken," and then Ben would tell him it was polar bear and just tastes like chicken. Then we'd see Locke with the meat hanging out of his mouth in disbelief.

Yeah, we like to over analyze around here.

I've actually started thinking about this scene several weeks after TMFT aired and am trying to figure out the relevance of Ben smirking and saying he already ate most of the dark meat. True it's an allusion to the Light/Dark theme, but what does "eating the dark meat" mean to Ben? Does it mean weeding out the good from the bad as Ben see's them and kidnapping the good (like Cindy and the kids) to join the Others, or is there something more sinister planned for those that aren't considered good?
